I just discovered your channel and I love it. I lost weight a couple of years ago and was able to get completely off blood pressure meds. For whatever reason, I got back to old habits, gained about 40 pounds of weight back and now I'm on two blood pressure meds and normally feel pretty much like crap, and depressed. I've been back on a healthier diet for a few days now, and feel like a different person already. Food is killing people in the U.S. every day, and restaurants and fast food are among the absolute worst. They have absolutely no regard for what they are doing to their customers. People need to get back in their kitchen and away from convenience foods. Thanks for the great advice.

Almost everything is loaded with chemicals from basic almond drink to simple bread. I basically have to cook my food from scratch. I ate out the other day and everything was so sweet and salty. My conclusion is that europeans should listen to these american youtubers with much nuance. We definitely have a very different food reality than the u.s

Here’s a pickle olive trick. Since black olives come in cans you’ll need an extra jar for them. Take your pickles or olives, drain the juice and refill with distilled or filtered water. Do this 3 or 4 times over the next few days. This eliminates most of the salt out of them.

That would be good if true -- but do you have any analytical data proving that your method works? In contrast to your claim there are scientific studies based on analytical chemical analysis stating that pouring off the water and rinsing canned peas, green beans and corn only reduces the salt content of the vegetables about 9 - 20% www.ars.usda.gov › ARSUserFiles › 80400525 › Articles › EB11_DrainedVeg.pdf

Be aware that when companies put "Low Sodium" on a product all it means is that it has less sodium than the regular version of the product. Be sure to check the nutritional facts listing of how much sodium per serving it actually has. Also be sure to check the listed serving size, some products list a serving size so small that a normal person would eat several times the listed amount.

Pickle problem? Take cucumber slices and soak them in a little vinegar. I find this satisfies my pickle craving. I also bake my own whole-wheat bread. Store-bought bread is loaded with sodium. Lots of foods that are "fried" can also be baked in the oven like my salt-free, home-made egg rolls. I make "hot dogs" with chicken strips tucked into folded slices of my home-made bread. It has become a fun hobby figuring out how to make healthier meals.

I have not felt like that for so long because I eat no junk food for so long. Just goes to show you how bad junk food is. Here is ingredients: Wholegrain Cereals (68%) (Corn (41%), Wheat (23%), Oats (4%)), Sunflower Oil And/Or Canola Oil, Sugar, Rice, Maltodextrin, Whey Powder (Milk), Cheese Powder (Milk), Salt, Yeast Extract, Buttermilk Powder (Milk), Mineral Salt (Potassium Chloride), Onion Powder, Natural Flavours (Milk), Garlic Powder, Food Acid (Citric Acid), Spice (Black Pepper), Natural Colour (Paprika Extract), Antioxidants (Tocopherols, Ascorbic Acid, Rosemary Extract). My quick break down: Cereals BAD, Corn BAD, Wheat BAD, Oats BAD, Sunflower Oil And/Or Canola Oil BAD (ALL these GMO) Sugar BAD, Rice BAD GMO, Maltodextrin BAD, Whey Powder (Milk) Aluminum, Cheese Powder (Milk) Aluminum, Salt Aluminum, Yeast Extract, Buttermilk Powder (Milk) Aluminum, Mineral Salt (Potassium Chloride) NOT NaCl - BAD Salt and Aluminum, Onion Powder Aluminum, Natural Flavours (Milk) - could be any number of chemicals, Garlic Powder Aluminum, Food Acid (Citric Acid) ???, Spice (Black Pepper), Natural Colour (Paprika Extract), Antioxidants (Tocopherols, Ascorbic Acid, Rosemary Extract) - chemicals used for extraction. Extract: Unlisted chemicals used in extraction process. Aluminum: Salt and most powders nowadays used Neurotoxic Aluminum based anti caking agents. A bag of poisons. @redkei Жыл бұрын
If it helps, nothing bad will happen if you avoid excess sodium, you may even lose weight. On the other hand, having a high sodium intake is most likely linked to high bp, but possibly not.

I think everything in Moderation is ok, not to much processed food, a little bit of everything is good for you, Die Happy at least a piece of candy is not going to kill us, a slice of Pizza is ok mind you American pizza slices are huge so just do half a slice, Things like Almond Milk are full of water, and so expensive, lets face it Almonds don't have Milk and the amount of Liquid in an almond is less than 1/2 a teaspoon so what your buying at the shop is mostly water , same with the Oat Milk. Just eat 5 almonds each day and a couple of Dates and oats for breakfast is a great healthy breakfast.

Salt is not an issue! The body regulates salt, and lowering salt intake only gives a temporary reduction in BP. The body then re-adjusts and you would have to keep lowering salt further to get any effect. I have metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer , stroke and heart disease in my family history. I eat tons of salt and have low/normal blood pressure ( 105/60 most days and often lower at age 59).. the secret is eating unprocessed ketogenic foods with a focus on animal products and healthy fats (avoiding seed oils), combined with intermittent fasting. Reading recommendations Dr Jason Fung.

Most PCPs know nothing about nutrition. An endocrinologist told me diets didn't work for diabetics. I self referred myself to a nutritionist and read a couple books on nutrition, but followed fit for life I and II. I proved him wrong. After I learned how to combine my foods, no meat proteins with starches, veggies and raw salad on the plate for lunch and dinner, only fruit in the morning and no drinks with meals, and when and not to eat, I lost 30#, then went vegan and lost 70# over 10 years, reversed my prediabetic condition, and didn't need medication anymore. After ten years, I've still kept the weight off. I was never hypertensive but hypotensive. Imo, most doctors push pills, yet they're not the panacea to medical problems and they only studied one course on nutrition. Yes, talk to a doctor, work with a nutritionist, and start a walking regime. Today I walk between five and seven miles daily. I started with only walking two blocks 13 years ago. Btw, the NIH stated a plant based diet and lifestyle change can reverse 75% of all diseases.

No mention of the primary culprits in modern hypertension, sugar and refined carbohydrates, alcohol, magnesium and potassium deficiencies. Insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Sodium is a relatively minor player in hypertension. Complete removal of sodium in the diet only lowers severe hypertension 5-7 points. People going 9n a low carb high fat diet like the Atkins diet often experience their blood pressure dropping so rapidly that they become dizzy and are encouraged to drink salty broths. Salt intake used to be dramatically higher in the days before refrigeration when salting was a common method of preserving foods.

I don't use salt on my food, but I do use salt when boiling vegetables, or potatoes. As this is only a pinch of salt -quarter of a teaspoonful to a pint of water - is this excessive and how much of that salt will be absorbed by the veg or potato? Apart from that, I eat healthily, although I do enjoy the occasional item you mentioned in this video. I don't buy ultra-processed foods and rarely eat cakes or biscuits, which are kept for special occasions, such as family get-togethers. I do eat cheese and butter, but only in small quantities and not very often.

I was surprise he did not mention that sugar in fruits, or in the form of a single molecule and table sugars and artificial sugars are in the form of three molecules, making it harder for your intestinal walls to absorb it. This is the reason why you get a strong insulin response to artificial in table sugars, fruits, sugars are simply absorbed very easily being that they are already a single molecule, and they can be absorbed into the bloodstream with little to no effort by the bodies digestive system.

Fair enough but surprised that bread isn't on the list. Not only is it high in salt most people eat lots of it. And as for smoked salmon . . .
@thecookingdoc2 жыл бұрын
Hard to fit everything into a list for sure, but yes agree bread is very high in salt. I always choose Killer Daves bread because it is a lot lower in sodium, but its high in price. Thanks so much for commenting Bob.

I get uncured bacon at Aldi. It’s a bit pricey but 1 slice has only 120 mg of sodium and 1 gram of saturated fat. I cook 2 slices in the microwave with 2 folded paper towels under them and 1 folded over the top. In 2 1/2 minutes they’re nice and crispy and most of the fat has cooked out and absorbed into the paper towels.

Kudos for making this informative video. This made a lot of sense and much knowledge was gained. Anyways, Molemen Herbs" assisted me greatly during my year of being diagnosed with Herpes. I was fortunate to find "Molemen Herbs" natural healing methods on KZbin which helped me heal permanently with their alternative holistic remedies formula for Herpes. You can check them out on KZbin. @ Molemen Herbs.

I get it Sue. I live in the South and bacon is a staple down here. Sounds like you are making some small changes and that is great. Nothing wrong with enjoying the foods you love in moderation and reducing the sodium intake.

Add large leafy vegetables with your meals that possess any sodium. These leafy vegetables contain potassium which counters the effects of sodium.

Great content, thank you. Question for you. I'm a 59 yr old male that cycles 100-150 miles a week and walks 10-12 miles a week. Still a little overweight but not too much. My blood pressure ranges for 138/85 - 170/98. As a cyclist, I lose salt like crazy when I sweat so I supplement my water bottles with 1000mg sea salt and 65mg potassium. Am I doing more harm then good? Appreciate your opinion.

I am not an MD but I read many times that in one's sodium intake, even under healthy conditions, you should take less than two thirds that of potassium.

Diabetes & Hypertension are the most common diseases in Cambodia. Incredibly, a lot of youths become diabetics from 30 year of age. Standard hospitals exist only in the city. Many people don't know what is high blood pressure. They prefer traditional remedies rather than going to hospital. They trust ancient remedies that made from plants, animals, alcohol, wildlife bone, wildlife blood etc.

Every NFL game televised has pizza ads on a scale that the US should reconsider. Cigarettes can no longer have ads on TV, so as bad for people as pizza is, (cheese meat saturated fat clogs arteries & salt raises BP) should it be illegal to advertise pizza on TV?

I get it-me too. I don’t know what the answer is, but I am just going to keep on trying. I’m beginning to think the answer is the salt I add when I’m cooking, as I love to cook and salt is what makes stuff taste good. 🤷♀️

Hey Doc, I’m 17 and have high blood pressure about 2 weeks ago the machine read 118/81 and 1 week later it changed to 120/90 what causes this? And is high blood pressure reversible since I’m young? Can I do more exercise and eat healthier vegetables like beets and tomatoes?

I don't eat ANY processed foods, let along ULTRA processed foods. All the food I eat comes from my own processing such as steaming and baking. I try not to kill the vitamins in foods so I like to eat foods that don't require a lot of cooking. Of course I DO cook meats but I eat a large amount of salads that don't require cooking and other vegetables that need cooking I steam so as not to lose their nutrients.

1. Good salt advice ASSUMING the reader is on the SAD diet--don't have high carb and high salt, however probably most people watching the video are lower carb/sugar. If Keto, try to get 3000 salt--sometimes not easy to do. 2. Don't tar all "processed' meats with a broad brush. There are some good hot dogs and sausages available, just harder to find.
