Thx for the review, as I didnt have the funds for it I built the BarButtons kit and used it to control my old android phone. It gives very similar functionality but has to be switched between apps, I'm just about to purchase a T7 so might just have to factor in the kit

I just released some comparison of the Carpe Iter V4C and the Samsung on my channel and your video got recommended to me. Great work, thanks. But could you check if the backside of the Carpe Iter is completely flat if you lay it on some even surface? Feels like my pad got some bulge on the back since I charged it yesterday… Thanks :)

I’ve been using the app on a Samsung S10 for my Tenere 660. I’d prefer the larger screen but even so, the software, gps speedo and its ability to integrate other apps (Cardo, music, etc) is really good. Remote handlebar unit is a great addition. Thanks Brent👍

Hi Brent thanks for the video, I have been in the market for a navigation tablet and this was a top contender. Looking forward to an update in a couple of months. Also I have a Norden exp myself, did you have any issues with wind buffeting and if so have the double take mirrors made a difference. Cheers Mark
@brentbatАй бұрын
Hey Mark No, I haven't had any issues with wind buffeting at all, I find the wind protection really good. I like the new doubletake mirrors. They have less vibration than the older ones (on my 701), but not sure if they are impacting wind buffeting.

Great vid, I’m currently using a Garmin XT which I’m happy with plus also Garmin support considering I have destroyed one in a crash that Garmin did a service exchange with for minimal cost. I’m wondering if CI do a similar thing and what the support is like. Keen to see your future updates.

That is a very cool unit!

It will be interesting to follow your adventure with this tablet. Carpe Iter have a reputation in the motorcycle navigation world of not being responsive to customers that are having problems with their units. This is something that noone can know until there is a problem but overall it is critical to whether a product is worth buying or not. Compare this to the responsiveness and consistency of the developers of DMD2 software and hardware which continually blows me away with how quickly problems are fixed, sometimes in a matter of hours....Carpe Iter used to use DMD2 software but there was a parting of the ways a few years back. Very happy with my DMD2 T665 :)
@Braun-c9qАй бұрын
Curious-whenever I read something bad about Carpe, it's always from user DMD2. I wonder if this reputation didn’t actually start there and if the reason behind it is a parting. Of course, you won’t find posts from dissatisfied users in this group, as it was created by the developer. I have Carpe and I love it.
@gnmurray5955Ай бұрын
@ there are quite a few users of the Carpe Iter that go to the DMD2 forums to try to get help because Carpe ignored them. It’s a clear pattern of user frustration, nothing to do with DMD2 “starting rumours “.
@brentbatАй бұрын
Hi there Thanks for the feedback... I haven't compared the tablets. So far, my experience has been good with the Carpe Iter tablet, and my mate Nick who has had one for a couple of years has also received good support when he needed it. I have also heard good things about Raphael's support for DMD2.

Hi, thanks for the videos… can you confirm if the tablet has its own gps or does it rely on your phone’s gps to function offline? I know DmD has its own but other brands don’t
@tomsimonisАй бұрын
Yep. It has its own GPS.

Yes, it has it's own, and the gps refresh seems very good. As good as my Garmin, MUCH better than I was getting on my iphone.

Hi Brent, another excellent video. I’ll be interested to find out if you stick with Gaia or migrate to another map provider, which also ties in with route planning and storage etc. regards
@brentbatАй бұрын
Hey Steve Yes, it is going to be interesting. I've been having some challenges with Gaia (all my filing system went to hell), and I'm working with Gaia support, so I'll see how they respond. (I don't think I'm the only one having the problem), but I will be trying out various mapping system.
@feralbeemers27 күн бұрын
@@brentbat Brent, I use Gaia for route planning as it is quite good but my folders went to pot as well and they did not sync across to the phone for my latest trip. You really must look at Memory Map 4 All , the engine behind Hema but so much more versatile

Great review, thank you. I’m still torn between this and the DMD2 OEM tablet DMD-T865X. BTW, it’s pronounced “carpay eater” and is latin for seize the journey.

Hey thanks for the tip on pronunciation. This wouldn't be the first company name that I have butchered, and it won't be the last, but I at least now I'll pronounce it correctly :-)

G'day Brent. Is the display readable when wearing polarized sunglasses?? My Garmin Zumo & colour display on my Africa Twin are good with polarized sunnies. Some laptops I can see with polarized sunnies and others just appear black. Hence the question re your new tablet. Thanks for the great video!! Cheers 🙂
@brentbatАй бұрын
I THINK my sunnies are polarised, but I can't be 100% sure. I'll see if I can find some polarised glasses and give it a test.

The first one to have this level of Nav & Smart Device PLUS carplay has my money. I am no Starbucks rider but if we are going to have consolidation, lets have consolidation so when i do go to Starbucks i can operate in that “mode” as well.

I got one too. Ever had the battery drained because you left the GPS/location-finder activated for a night?

I haven't yet, but wouldn't it just re-charge as soon as you turned the bike on? I assume you are referring to tablet battery.
@tomsimonisАй бұрын
@@brentbatI'm currently in Marocco using it to navigate. The other day I started the tablet and it had 1% left. It turned off. Offcourse it charged when I turned the bike on. I will contact Carpe Iter about this and some other issues I have experienced. Looking forwardto your next trip/video.
@brentbatАй бұрын
@@tomsimonis Hey Tom, thanks for the update, so was your issue more that you wanted to use it without the bike running? Because even if it was dead flat, once you started the bike, wouldn't it turn on pretty quickly? Curious as to the other issues that you have experienced. I hope you are having a ball in Morocco, definitely somewhere I'd like to ride.

@the_exploreristАй бұрын
Super bright is not a good description. How many NITS and how does it compare to other options in NITS? I do like the Track up to North up functionality. I'm confused, Google says: Google Drive is an AI-powered cloud storage for seamless file sharing and enhanced collaboration. Although you have been provided a device for free (which potentially may affect the review), you did not mention the price if any other person was to buy it.
@brentbatАй бұрын
Hi, thanks for your note and questions. As for the # of Nits etc.... That is not how I evaluate products, and that is why I didn't do a "tech review" going into all the specs etc. I focus on it more from my perspective as a rider. Is it bright and easy to read etc.... and this screen was "super bright".... thats the best way I can describe it. But I know there are a lot more technical folks out there... so I went to their web site and looked up the nits, here is what the site said. "Highest LCD brightness - up to 2600 nits (cd) nominal panel output, 2200+ nits on user side to make the screen readable in direct sunlight. A must have for summer rides!" All I know... is that it is "Super Bright" :-) As for price, I think you need to head over to their web site to see what you need for YOUR situation (mountining brackets etc.). I don't resell them, I don't get any commission or kick-backs... and honestly normally I never even accept free stuff from vendors... but because I have seen this product in action and my mate has been riding with one for 2+ years, I know it's good quality, and I was happy to get one to share my experiences. but I was clear with the manufacturer, I was going to give my absolute honest opinion, good, bad or ugly. The summary of the table was my honest assessment of the pros and cons as I saw them.
@the_exploreristАй бұрын
@brentbat cheers. My question about price was mainly to highlight that it is "quite" expensive to purchase and have sent to Australia. It was the one thing that put me off.
@brentbatАй бұрын
@@the_explorerist Yeah, I hear you. I deliberately stay away from talking about price because it is so subjective. An example is the Iceland trip that I did last year. I paid rack rate for that... and it is expensive. But determining whether it is good value or worth buying... that is so subjective. Usually pricing information can be discovered in a few minutes by visiting a company's web site, so that is why I focus on my experience and observations and let them do their own bit of homework and draw conclusions around price. But I hear you.
