I’ve never seen her so excited during a reaction. Love it. Their songs are the soundtrack of my childhood. Back then their music was all over am radio. Most beautiful voice of my generation. RIP Karen

Thank you Enoma. Richard Carpenter first heard this song as a TV ad for a US bank who were promoting a home loans package to young couples starting out. He recognised the singer as Paul Williams, a singer/songwriter who happened to be signed to the same label as Carpenters. Richard contacted Williams to find out if the short segment in the TV ad was part of a completed song. It really wasn't but Carpenters were a big new act, so Williams completed it almost overnight. Richard cast his magic as an arranger, incorporating a woodwind-led intro, and put the song in Karen's always capable hands. The pair of them did the backing vocals together by overlaying multiple tracks of them singing different parts of harmony. According to Richard, incidentally, the group is called Carpenters, never THE Carpenters. Perhaps coincidentally, the song has gone full-circle because a TV ad campaign for a bank in the UK is using a more recent cover to promote its mortgage services.

How lost is the soul that cannot hear the beauty in her voice. You are right, one is compelled by her voice to hear it with all the senses. Wonderful to see beauty wash over you both, and to see you light up.

Such a moving and heartfelt song so beautifully performed by Karen and Richard Carpenter. It remains as emotionally powerful today as it was when they first recorded it. Any time I hear a Carpenters song I'm reminded of Karen's tragic death in 1983, at age 32, which adds even more emotion when listening. Her early death created public awareness of the dangers of eating disorders like anorexia nervosa. RIP

This song was written for a TV commercial for a credit card company earlier. They heard the song, loved it and wanted to record it. My dear friend Hal Blaine played drums on most of their records, this is one of them, along with his friend Joe Osborn the bassist who discovered The Carpenters in 1968. The sound of them all together made the record a hit.

Karen Carpenter in my opinion has one of the best voices of all time. Her smoothness, perfect pitch and natural delivery are second to none.
@tomschmitz2613 жыл бұрын
agreed, surely the most pure, rich, moving, warm, intimate beautiful voice ever... and she also had PERFECT diction and enunciation and she sang TO YOU NOT AT YOU... she was one of the true all time great VOCALISTS, not just a great singer.. they're are countless singers, but very very few vocalists and even more fewer all time vocalists, who are incredible storytellers for every song they sing, putting emphasis on every word for every lyric... karen was the master of this...

I love Karen. Her voice is top notch. She is the greatest Alto to ever deliver popular style music ever. To fill your musical taste buds fully you must explore the greatest soprano who ever gave popular music the sound words can’t describe. Eva Cassidy is simply the most inspiring courier of song who ever lived. Listen. Then Listen. Again Listen. Eva will change your life for the better. Every day you don’t hear her is one more day of your life missing an angel speaking just to you. Enjoy. 🎺

What is even more miraculous is that this song was not even a finished song. The writer, Paul Williams wrote it as a commercial jingle for a bank. Richard Carpenter called him and asked if there was an entire song. Of course Paul Williams lied, and said that there was an entire song. After he finished the phone with Richard Carpenter he scrambled and wrote a second verse lyrics and music, bridge. He basically finished the lyrics and music to present to Karen and Richard so they could record it themselves.
