Good job bro! 👍 👍 👍. Me on new rims I made a layer of carpro CQuartz lite, one of carpro gliss v2, and finished with meguiar's M799 hybrid ceramic bead booster as a top coat !. And I am very satisfied with it! For the moment it holds very well the ferrous decontaminants (iron decon D1801) without contact because no need to rub!
@MikeGDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Looking good Matt. DLUX is indeed old school and does a good job as a wheel coating. I recall CarPro revising their instructions where no leveling is needed. I tend to wipe it off as well as I am used to that. Also keep in mind that Gliss doesn't do well if hit with Tarx as that will degrade it and in some cases remove it. If you ever decide to look into wheel coatings again, I have found that 22ple VM1 does a better job and is much easier to use with longer longevity than DLUX. You won't get that tacky feeling like DLUX.
@Schwabz333 жыл бұрын
Hey Matt- another nice combo would be Carpro SiC on top of DLUX. SiC just came out not to long ago. I know Gliss has been around for some time now. SiC is Acid and alkyl resistance from 2-13PH levels . Direct from CarPro - Features: Acid and alkyl chemical resistance from 2 ~ 13 pH. Better water spots and minerals resistance. Highly smooth feeling. Deep gloss. Very easy application in any temperature. Tech specifications: Sliding angle: 10 ̊. Water contact angle: 110 ̊. Heat tolerance: 392 ̊ F. Application temp. range: 50 ̊F ~100 ̊ F. Surface finish: High slickness. Gloss: Mirror Shine. Chemical resistance: 2 ~ 13 pH. Mineral resistance: High (easy to remove). Salt resistance: Medium.

I always thought the coating being grabby on wipe off meant you haven’t waited long enough for it to flash, and would love to see this compared to C5 topped with exo since that’s a dedicated wheel and high heat metal coating

It’s got to be Gtechniq WheelArmor for me. Easy to apply and has been so great on my daily driver. Top it off with either bead maker or Angelwax wheel wax. Great combo
@gregsullivan74083 жыл бұрын
The flip side of the silver making it "hard to see what you're doing" is that it's harder to see high spots, so you don't need to be as careful with the wipe-off. That's my theory anyway.
@sometimes52073 жыл бұрын
Matt, you need to design and produce an OG wheel coating applicator. I have tried so many different types including just using the suede like you do but all have their drawbacks.
@blake82973 жыл бұрын
I thought I knew what it meant to be obsessed, but after watching Matt denib the tires, I just realized Im way behind.
@KinematicsFX3 жыл бұрын
The grabbiness in removing the coating is because you have not allowed enough flash time, the time can vary from outside temperature, humidity, etc.. if it's grabbing/smearing then you need to allow more time, and you should start your timer after you have finished applying the coating, not at the start.
@JPTinioMedia2 жыл бұрын
Carpro wants 1 minute afterwards its supposed to grabby when you remove it.

The melting point of SiO2 is around 1.700°C. How does a wheel coating differ from a normal coating?
@MikeGDetailing3 жыл бұрын
That is pure SiO2 and coatings are not pure SiO2. In general wheel coatings have a higher temperature resistance. Some paint coatings have a higher temperature resistance than what Matt was using. Matt was using Crystal Serum Light which resist temperatures as low as -40°c to as high as +250°c. CarPro DLUX has a temperature resistance of 800°c. Gtechniq C5 is around 500°c. 22ple VM1 blows either of these out of the water so to speak in overall performance.

How would I remove the current product to redo or can it be applied over it? I am sure it will have to be compounded, but you said it only lasts about six months on a daily, so thought I’d ask.

Coatings specifically for wheels/calipers tend to be gummier. Gyeons Rim is very similar where it goes on very gummy and doesn't really leave a super slick surface but it performs pretty good. I will have to give this combo a try to see if I like it over Gyeon Rim.

I was told today by the Detailer ceramic coating my 2023 Range Rover he does not ceramic coat the barrel due to wheel weights not always sticking to the inside after the wheel has been ceramic coated. He says they can come off. Is this a legitimate concern? Or should I push the barrels to be done?
