@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 4 ай бұрын
Hi Bryan! At this point, looks like you'll have to do a wheels off detailing service. Here's my detailed and simple to follow tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX2mgmOdap1spq8si=dSm_AvaRJb2xyQuV You'd clean the wheels using a stronger wheel cleaner like this: bit.ly/49kOvuy Then do a round of dedicated iron removal with something like CarPro IronX or Gyeon Iron Then do a round of claying to remove all the left over contamination Then do machine polishing (mechanical abrasion will take care of anything left over) IPA wipe Then applying a coating.

The only that i used is gyeon, only downside is you see no flashing when it cures. If you let it cure to long (more than 30 sec) it becomes sticky and difficult to remove. Next year i'm am going to try the evo version.

Great tutorial! Anything special to consider if you have powder coated wheels?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 4 ай бұрын
Thanks Ryan. In general, most powdercoating experts recommend just using a pH neutral car soap to clean the wheels. For dirtier wheels, you can use dedicated wheel cleaners, but just make sure it says on the label that it's compatible on powdercoated wheels. And make sure you follow the instructions perfectly. You don't want to work in direct sunlight and never let the product dry on the surface, as that could stain the finish. My favorite wheel & tire cleaner, P&S Brake Buster, is safe on powdercoated wheels. Here's my review of it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6DIlImiqqdnhtEsi=vLaPFL6sL25HVeNU And here's my wheel and tire cleaning tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZ7alIGZiL6WiZosi=DWdkFtK3IBfQANAC Welcome to my channel. I did Gyeon Q2 Rim a couple years ago. Twice actually. Pulled the wheels, scrubbed, decon, light polish, Gyeon prep... Took me two days to do all four wheels the first time. Did it in a day the second. Looked amazing both times. I just don't have the time to keep redoing them every 4 months though. I drive 130+ miles a day for work, 34,000 miles a year (almost 55,000 km). I'm in NE Ohio in the states and have the hot humid rainy summers and cold snowy winters and they drop enough road salt sometimes to make the roads as white as a sheet of paper. For the money and amount of time and work I just wasn't impressed enough to keep it up. I've just gone back to either Gyeon Wet Coat or Car Pro HydrO2. Maybe I'll give this one a shot this year.

Thanks! Good idea for a future video. Basically, there are two general types of hydrophobic properties. Hydrophobics are the way water behaves on a surface. The first is water beading. Tight little water droplets. And the second is water sheeting. The water sheds of the surface instead of staying on the surface in the form of droplets. You can check out this video explaining and showing the differences: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qajVfHtnZbxpe9Esi=YAdEMdUwxUi5AgXK

In theory, according the the brands that produce these coatings, there are differences in the formulation of wheel specific coatings that allow for a higher resistance to hotter temperatures (that you get from the brake components) and sometimes also higher chemical resistance, as the wheel cleaners that you use are much harsher than car soap on the paintwork. But in theory, you could use a traditional paint coating on wheels as well, as the coating bonds to the clear coat on the wheels, just like it bonds to the clear coat on the paint. But even if you apply a traditional multi-year paint coating on your wheels, don't expect it to last more than a year anyways, as you use much harsher chemicals to clean your wheels, and also the environment the coating is in gets a lot more beating and heat compared to the paint.

@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 4 ай бұрын
If it has a clear coat, you deal with it just like you would with clear coated paint. You always start with the less aggressive method first. A water spot remover. If that still doesn’t work, you do a light polish. The longer water spots are left unattended on paint, the more the etching gets deep and that can even cause permanent damage.
@hawkdlr
@hawkdlr 4 ай бұрын
@PanTheOrganizer I've already tried chemical guys water spot remover but no luck...and any certain polish you recommend?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 4 ай бұрын
When a water spot remover doesn't work, you know it's time to bump up the aggression level to a paint polish. Start with a polish and see if that works. Any polish will do. If that still doesn't work, you know it's deeper and you would have to use a compound first, and then finish with the polish. But before polishing steps, it's important to neutralize all the minerals by using a water spot remover. Perhaps something stronger than the CG stuff you used. I like this product: bit.ly/3utde0I Wash the car. Dry it. Spray the water spot remover (follow the instructions and don't work in direct sunlight), then agitate with a microfiber towel or mitt. Then rinse, and rewash the car to neutralize any chemical left over. And then do the polishing steps.

In theory, yes you can apply a traditional paint coating on wheels. But wheel specific coatings usually have a higher temperature resistance and are more robust. Regardless of which coating you apply though, don't expect more than 1-2 years at best of durability, depending on your mileage and maintenance and environmental factors.

Also is your winter profile tire a little lower than on summer ones? Or the same? When you have coated wheels, as they are much easier to clean, all you really need is a soapy solution (you can use the same pH neutral car shampoo as your paintwork, just not from the same bucket to avoid cross contamination). Once in a while, if you see brake dust accumulation, you can use an iron remover. Also, if the wheels are really dirt, you can still use traditional quality wheel cleaners. Why not apply it with just a short pile mf towel? Does this bulky applicator reach the crevices or the back of the spikes?

This was just to coat the wheel faces, hence why we said it wasn't a full wheels off coating video. I already have a full tutorial on a wheels off detailing so you can see how that goes here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX2mgmOdap1spq8si=q4SpT6V4W9S9YoAV

According to Ivan Lacrois there is no difference between clear coat on your wheels and on body of your car so why do I need "special" coating? Same situation with waxes dedicated to dark or light colours...wax is wax... Buying "dedicated" wheel coatings is just waste of money from my perspective...

@@jeffreylangan you can say same thing about clear coat on your body... Whatever happens to your wheels also happens to your body (temperature, dust, water, sun, snow etc.)... I will never use "special" coatings on my or client wheels just because some manufacturers create one...

This would be a debate for the actual chemists that blend the products. And from my understanding, at least in theory, according the the brands that produce these coatings, there are differences in the formulation of wheel specific coatings that allow for a higher resistance to hotter temperatures (that you get from the brake components) and sometimes also higher chemical resistance, as the wheel cleaners that you use are much harsher than car soap on the paintwork.

@@PanTheOrganizer well Pan propably you should do some tests on wheels with both types of coatings and chceck if durability is the same? But what if the results would be similar? Anyway...I"ll stick to my opinion😊

I disagree. A wheel coating makes cleaning the wheels sooooo much easier, and drying them too. Plus it gives them that extra “pop” in appearance. Just like paintwork. But it’s also ok if it’s not for you.
