This is what made me a subscriber! I love these diagonal tests, very revealing as to the effectiveness of these all wheel drive systems. I will keep coming back to this channel for these tests. I am starting to look for a new suv in the coming year and this channel is what I reference to determine the quality of the awd system, not what the manufacturer claims. They all claim the ability to transfer power to different wheels, but as we can see they are not all equal for price, class, etc. And you are a fellow Canadian too! Very unbiased, very thorough, very professional. I will quote these videos when in the dealerships to prove what their "ideal systems" actually do in the real world. Keep up the great work, I'm telling everyone that states their suvs are the best to check this channel out asap.

Sorry but its to compare the AWD systems out there today side by side to see if its a worthy system compared to the competiton. There are people out there that want the best and people out there that don't really care. So guess your one of the latter. So why are you here?
@afcgeo8826 жыл бұрын
What I’m saying is that these aren’t good comparisons bevause they don’t test the systems the way they would be used 99.9% of the time, which is on gravel, snow, mud or in sand. You don’t compare airliners by flying them inverted, do you? No. It’s the same thing here too. While it is a test, it isn’t a good one, and I’m here because I looked up re iews of the CRV and Forester and this came up along with dozens of other videos.
@kartboarder22g176 жыл бұрын
If you were driving in the country and spun your car out on the snow covered road and into the snow covered ditch, and the subaru were able to drive out of the situation, but the CRV wasn't. Well that is something to consider right. Or if you were hauling some grass clippings to your local dump and as you drove in you watched a Forester make its way out, yet when you tried the same thing you found yourself stuck in the mud. Then I guess it matters. Granted these are just a few scenarios. Here is one that happened to me. I was driving following my father in law who was in a 4x4 vehicle. A strong storm came and we pulled over as it passed. When the storm had passed, we got to driving back to our place only to find giant pines laying accross the road. We were blocked in. Yet the ditch was open and wet, we decided to take that path rather than wait hours for help. In that situation you want the best you can have to go up against the task. If you don't see snow, off road, or never venture from the city or surrounding suburbs then don't really know why you would need AWD at all. To each his own.
@amv7m6 жыл бұрын
Great test! I didn’t think the CR-V would conquer those initial incline tests. The AWD system was a little slow to respond but, I was surprised to see it actually make it. No, the CR-V isn’t meant, designed or built to do those types of “off roading” maneuvers but it’s nice to know it can (eventually) if really needed. Better than I thought for a crossover.

Time will tell on the turbo. My wife's Civic EX-T is 20k miles in and flawless, but that's too early to tell. The engine is impressive. I could tell the reviewer was even impressed that the CR-V was able to make it through the diagonal tests. The test with the impassable snow wall was the reviewer trying to see if the AWD system could handle the bi-lateral slip test. And, no...the CR-V still doesn't seem to know how to handle when two wheels are slipping on the same side. A vast improvement over the old system, however, which only transferred 10% of available power to the back wheels. It was never enough to pull the CR-V out of these kind of tests.
@afcgeo8826 жыл бұрын
The last generation transferred up to 40% to the rear, compared to the 60% to the rear. However, it was always a reactive system that didn't use senors. Not it isn't.
@afcgeo8826 жыл бұрын
No AWD system without a locking diff can properly handle two slipping wheels on the same side, not even a Forester. Simply braking the slipping wheels with traction control won’t help much. Also, the last gen of the CR-V was able to transfer up to 40% of torque to the rears. It just couldn’t do it in some situations.
@Anger617 жыл бұрын

that's because they are 50/50 split in power, cars like these are fwd based and have something like 80% of the power in the front and 20% in the rear. plus they don't separately brake the wheels to transfer torque or have any type of limited slip or a locking differential
@afcgeo8826 жыл бұрын
You need to do some learning. The Subarus aren't 50/50 and the CR-V can send up to 60% of torque to the rear (same as the Subaru). Also, all modern Subarus have traction control standard.
@ukaszgrzybek27696 жыл бұрын
The difference in both is that in the Subaru you have Torque Vectoring and in the Honds you don't

One thing buyers have to understand about Hondas awd setup is that it only works in "realtime". You're driving a fwd SUV until the front wheels start slipping. I have a first generation crv and I was hitting some trails and one thing I noticed was traction was soo much more pronounced when I put the transmission in low gear. I wonder if it makes a difference if you do the same with these newer ones.

It take the CRV's computer a few seconds to calculate then redistribute power to where it is needed. The older AWD systems for the previous gens did not do that they either worked or just broke lol. Love my new turbo CRV though. It is astonishingly nice. The little 1.5T is surprisingly powerful. Was not expecting it to actually be as good as it is. @muzzthegreat7 жыл бұрын
Considering Hondas continuous and repeated failure to put Torque to the rear wheels over many models and reviews [KZbin vids of failure to get out of icy-garage etc] we can only conclude that they don't want to build the Rear-Diff or drivetrain to take full torque. Witness instead the several Chinese 'stunt' videos of Ford Kugas/Escapes climbing 70degree slopes with their front-wheels in the air sometimes. [yes, I'm biased, I have Kuga and if the thing gets two rocks under those rear wheels it will simply grip and climb] See drag-race vids of nearly any other small SUV : they put nearly all the Torque through the rear wheels and it does translate into good traffic performance ; Wet Roundabout > actual 50/50 : it grips and Goes safely. This is not a 'software' issue : Honda is just building the rear drivetrain Light because they want it to add ONLY a bit of torque for Lounge-chair Ladies.

Car Question Thank you, very informative. But that vid just convinces me your viewers would be better served by more realistic testing they may actually encounter. Also since no fw or rw drive vehicle can 'pass', should no one drive them either? Sorry but I'm just not seeing the point. This is like taking a street legal off roader onto a highway to test it's road manners, only to have some of your viewers dismiss those with too bad nvh ;)

Well, let's make this simple. We could talk about it, and get them bored of listening at it. We could try it on rollers, KZbin is full of that and not be original, so get no views / credit. STILL, everybody asked for that. So we are working on an original roller test that will simulate a new environment rather than the ones on the ground. We could try to show you something on the asphalt: You can't see it cause it's more a feeling. we could try to show you something about snow: there are so many different snow type so it's not always the same environment so... no good compared there! And sometimes there is no snow out there! Plus, we never get the same tire. We always said that our test is more a hardcore demonstration than a real need for everyday families! But it sure show how much the AWD system can be used before it gives up! I'm ok with your point, but for us, we like to push the limit. Don'texpect a Porsche 911 turbo on that test, but you can be sure that when a Kona is shown in the Broll hitting the sand trail, that we will test it.

Car Question Fair enough. I'm OK with hard testing and it certainly is entertaining to see the outer limits. Great driving skills BTW, I'd be totally unnerved trying this myself lol
