Would you actually flat and then jam jj there? I like that strategy if you know you're they're squeeze happy

The first person I saw use the term "value bet bluff" on TV was Mike Matusow nearly twenty years ago at the WSOP, long before Charlie Carroll's rime.

the spot with 89o, do you bluff on river heart?
@gunther7037Ай бұрын
Ran a super similar bluff to the first hand last session (playing deeper ~300BB) and got snapped by an overpair. Super frustrating spot that had me wondering if my play was correct
@CarrotCornerPokerАй бұрын
It happens. Sometimes you run into a station or someone who just happens to be losing and tilted that day. As long as you're following the guidelines here and bluffing vs the right player types it should be fine. If you are in a fishy game though then be vbery careful trying to make unknowns folds hands as objectively strong as overpairs etc even if they are mere catcher vs your line.

28:07 in the last hand if Villain bet 8bb on the turn, would you have still check raise? To what size would you check raise? are we trying to make villain fold a K the river?
@CarrotCornerPokerАй бұрын
I'm guessing you mean $8 into $9? Check/raising is still okay and Villain's range should contain bluffs as well as Kx+ for value. We don't expect too many Kx to fold turn but that's okay unless Villain is just underbluffing. Equilibrium will still x/r here vs bigger sizing but we might shy away from this vs passive players who probably just have good Kx+ for this sizing for the most part.

Preflop, one can make a case for 3betting getting pretty good if UTG is widening his opening range with fish in BB

Yeah I don’t think there’s too much in it and factors both ways.

If you were villain in the AThh hand would you ever consider turning KQ into a bluff raise? If not what hands would you consider good bluffs?
@sibbesenАй бұрын
There is no way he can have more then 12 combos of AK in the ATs hand... Given that mistake would you consider donk betting the turn? Especially given that you have pretty much all the combos of JT, blocking JT and AK?
@ekw555Ай бұрын
@21:34 - they can only have 12 combos of AK. which is still a ton. @22:15 - again - not 16 combos of AK

So basically you are overbluffing weak opponents, vs good regs who know mdf its ok until they realize that you are overbluffing and vs calling station you are burning money. I dont think its a winning strategy except you play vs weak scared money opponents
@CarrotCornerPokerАй бұрын
Good regs don't just follow MDF in every spot even if they know how to reach it, rather they look to overfold in underbluffed spots and overdefend in overbluffed spots. Even though my hand happens to be 88 here and not some nutty value hand, I have plenty of the latter in range and I think this is percevied as an underbluffed spot by most competent players. I'm not even sure I'm overbluffing here given I fold hands like pcoket pair no diamond on flop and have a tonne of value in range. Being scared money is not the only reason people overfold; in fact, it's a much less common reason than them just thinking they don't have enough equity to call vs your range. And yeah anytime you ever bluff vs a calling station you are likely burning money. This is to state the obvious. I also said in the video that this sort of line doesn't work well vs. calling stations or recreationals since they're less aware of relative hand strength and the concept of having a mere bluff catcher as opposed to 'Aces m8'.
@uniquelolapps7318Ай бұрын
@@CarrotCornerPoker i like how you are thinking and will get the course to dive deeper. Btw lets say I assume you are a good reg and on the river lets say the MDF is 50%, i assume its an underbluffed spot but you might still bluff, is it a good approach for me to call only 25% instead or pure folds?
@CarrotCornerPokerАй бұрын
@@uniquelolapps7318 If you suspect a spot is significantly underbluffed then the EV maximising adjustment in that spot specifically is to fold all of your bluff catchers (hands that lose to all value and beat all bluffs) since they will be close enough to 0EV in theory that they're all now losing vs the underbluffing betting range. If you're playing in a high visibility game, meaning playing lots of hands with the same players, then at some point you might decide that your play has led to changes in dynamic and you'll maybe want to reevaluate, but maximising EV in a vacuum in the hand you're currently involved in is almost always the right approach.
