You can get enough fuel through the first carb, the emulsion tube needs to be drilled in the main center hole and the air bleeds may need changed as well. On the big carburetor it will work, it will pull fuel, if it is setup right you could easily use a carb twice that size. When switching fuel types remember that wide band reads lambda (1 lambda is ALWAYS stoic no matter the fuel type) from the exhaust, and the display converts it to gasoline air to fuel ratio where 1 lambda (stoic) = 14.7 to 1 afr, so on methanol when the display shows 14.7 (stoic) the actual afr is 6.4 (methanol stoic) so your carb is a lot closer to right than you thought. On the tav slipping, first tighten the rear spring, it may be necessary to drill more holes to get it tight enough, this will raise shift rpm if it gets too high put heavier weights and heavier springs in the front pulley. I'm sure your aware of this but always clean the pulleys after belt slippage, wire brush, 300 grit sand paper, and brake cleaner. If you've made it this far please thumbs up so that they can see this!

I'm kind of on your side but it's possible the issue with the 38mm was too slow of airflow, and there wasn't actually enough venturi effect to pull fuel out of the jet. If that's the case it probably would have ran lean but may have actually taken off if they could just get the turbo spooled
@krakhedd2 жыл бұрын
@@limprooster3253 I wondered about that too; yet even with the restricted flow and the turbo spooled, it was still unable except when restricted. As a teen in the late 1970s, I ran Kohler 4 hp iron block engine on 5% nitro/95% gasoline. The home made go kart was super light with only a ordinary single ratio dry clutch/chain drive. We had a oval shaped subdivision as a test track. It's best top speed was around 55mph. Although the carb was from a 10hp Briggs motor, main jet drilled and a air scoop" dryer vent " added to the engines cooling shroud, it ran hot. You could not sit idling, had to keep it up to speed to stay cool. I used really thin dead soft copper sheeting to make head gaskets. Never properly computed compression ratio but it was high. It was really fun.

Just a reminder that wideband o2 sensors actually measure the proportion of air fuel in the exhaust (lambda) then the gauge converts that reading to an "AFR" which means if your gauge is setup for gasoline afrs and its running stoichometric on methanol which would be 6.5/1 it will still show 14.7/1 on the gauge beacuse it thinks that you are running gasoline. ig you try to get to 6,5/1 on the gauge you would actually be flooding the engine with fuel As a recomendantion you guys should consider swtich to using lambda which definelty makes tunning easier since its de directly proportion of how much your mixture is running rich/lean compared to stoich as an example: 1 lamda = Stoich 1.2 lambda = 20% lean 0.8 lambda = 20% rich

This was on a motor that is less than 500cc (30 cubic inch was our limit at the time). So the 38mm is probably not far off unless the turbo changes things.

Open up the hole going through the middle of your emulsion tube, and solder up some of the holes that let air bubbles in through the side. If you do a little research you will know where to put those air holes for whatever RPM you need more, or less fuel for. Hope this helps. PS raising the height of your gas tank, and putting 3/8" dia fuel lines on increases fuel pressure.

Nah man they need an EFI and a fuel pump. Small engines and turbos never work very well with carburetors. They would get more power with just the methanol and no turbo at this point. They are putting a sock to decrease flow, defeating the purpose of running a turbo. Seriously they are trying to get more boost by choking the air flow with a sock to get more fuel flow. That's hilarious. They ain't the sharpest tools in the shed. lol. 😂The carbs they have will never deliver enough fuel. It needs to be forced injected to work correctly. This has probably been said already, but wideband O2 sensors read in what's called lambda, where 1:1 is a stochiometric mix of air and fuel regardless of fuel type. The 12:1 or 6.5:1 you guys are aiming for is an air/fuel ratio based on the fuel being used. If your wideband is set up to read the fuel as gasoline, you'll still be aiming for roughly 11:1-12:1 no matter what fuel is going through it.
@V8Power53002 жыл бұрын
Your still aiming for somewhere around lambda 0.85. AFR is just some math done on top of that. If an AFR gauge for gasoline shows 12.5:1 it is still the same lambda value no matter what the fuel. With methanol you want to be a little richer. You should really let the gauge show lambda not afr. You might want to put EFI on this. A speeduino setup will work great for this

On the one hand it’s awesome backyard engineering and pure hot rodding to play with all your sock additions etc to try and get the best tune. But you know its backwards logic to add a turbo and then choke it off. You need a) bigger carburetor, b) multiple carburetors or, c) fuel injection as previously mentioned in the comments. Think back to early hot rodding and early drag racing. As they switched fuels they added more induction capacity not just changing a jet on a single carb. And yes you need to adjust the waste gate pressure and rather than socks, play with air inlet tuning by using a velocity type inlet tube of various sizes to gently adjust the amount of air flow.

Guys, guys, guys, the AFR from the wide band is gonna show you the right number for gasoline when it’s tuned right, even when you run nitro or methanol, despite the actual AFR being like 5:1. if you guys *still* don't want to do EFI for whatever reason here is my suggestion: get a high pressure external fuel pump (40-50 psi), boost referenced fuel pressure regulator and the wet part of a wet shot kit. all rated for methanol obviously. install the fuel nozzle as close to the intake ports as possible while obviously keeping it far back enough that both cylinders will have equal access to the fuel. the upside to putting it as close as possible is instantaneous fuel response and less chance of an explosion in your turbo, downside is you won't get the complete charge cooling effect (not that it really matters with such a short charge pipe and you already have fuel coming from the carburetor anyway). you have two choices how you want to set it up, you can omit the solenoid and just have it run solely off the boost reference, but then you wouldn't get the benefit of instant response when you floor it since it would take a second for boost to build and start actuating the regulator, unless you have it set up to constantly be trickling at idle but then you would have to retune your carburetor in conjunction with the dribble. the second option is to use the solenoid and either have a steering wheel button and/or switch on the pedal to activate it when you hammer down, this has the benefit of not relying solely on boost or a constant trickle of fuel for the hole shot since you can just run a higher pressure off the bat, but then you're relying on cheap electronics and switches which if they fail might take your engine with it if you are unlucky enough. it would take a lot of tuning and fiddling with nozzles to get it just right but I think it could be an excellent and not too difficult or expensive stopgap and if you can dial it in good enough you will get better afrs and throttle response than you ever could with trying to suck fuel through a foot of pipe from a tiny carb.

I absolutely agree with Scott Marshall, except I would run two injectors (one for each bank) and run it on Megasquirt with a universal harness. It can be tuned and it would be MUCH easier than guessing with jet sizes and trying to choke airflow (which kills power production) with socks. I have turbo imports and I have a tunable ECU on them all, along with a wideband oxygen sensor and good quality reliable gauges.

Here is the down and dirty fix. Put a nitrous nozzle or injection tube into the intake tract after the turbo. Run a small pump that can maintain about 10 psi above your max boost. Put a boost referenced regulator on that line. Use a jet in that system to regulate flow. Activate the system with a boost switch set to the pressure you want the fuel to come in at. This will allow you to run a gas carb at part and full throttle while having added fuel under higher boost with a fuel curve to reduce the chance of an over rich condition.i know guys with Hayabusa engines with boost making 200 to the wheel. That's a good 400cc engine. You are half that so maybe 100 hp is possible 9n gas and even more on nitromethanol.

This is pretty cool but I think moving the carb to the back side of the turbo so the fuel isn't being pulled by the turbo. You need to open the inlet to the turbo up and push that air into the carb. Also, the carb is restricting the turbo by having to pull air through the carb. That is why your hose was collapsing. The turbo was trying to pull air through a closed carburetor..

Clutching is a huge thing with a CVT system, Them clutches may not make a difference on the dyno but when your leave the line on the dragstip you going to want to make sure they are dialed in.

So just a thought here, what about a wet nitrous system minus the nitrous? Add a jet and an electric fuel pump with a micro switch on the throttle to activate when you hit a pre set RPM. idk if you have voltage running at all but you can add a little battery to run it and just charge it between runns if you had to. The power would make up for the extra weight if you went that way. I think that if you got it all set up right that would be plenty to get the fuel you need and it would idle and all that stuff. Plus it would sound cool when you talked about your custom secondary fuel system. LoL an actual NOS system would have everything you would need just plug the nitrous side and if you ever wanted to add it, well then the system would be there already!! But just the fuel side of it would work spectacular I think!! Just a thought!!

Two of them have 6 1/2 hp predators stage 2 they get around 45 - 50 MPH on our streets. Off road buggy with a 420 on it completely built my us . Keep up the good work . Love the new shop.

You will probably need an 1/8” of a jet. Got a pulling lawn mower on methanol with a blower on 5psi and that’s what it needed and liked and she’s super happy. Also need to check to see if it sucks the bowl dry to.

Review the fuel flow from the fuel tank, fuel pump and all the way through. The jet may not be the restriction. At 60hp you can calculate the fuel rate (gal/minute) and you can make sure everything is sized right for that amount of flow. In the 1970's I did this calculation for a modified tractor puller and his dual turbo 427 Chevy. It seemed lean and was burning holes in his pistons (burns hot when lean). I determined his fuel pump was not delivering enough fuel, based on the fuel rate needed for 1200hp. He added a second fuel pump and it ran correctly. So well in fact that he started twisting his driveshafts into pretzels.

Can you put a carb in front of a carb? Double carb? Treat it like sequential turbos? Or even just two of the same to add up your total fuel. Or even do a 2 into 1 carb manifold. The reverse of the cross kart.
@CarsandCameras2 жыл бұрын
Dude ike that idea but I shot him down! I shouldn’t have!
@magicstew452 жыл бұрын
Yeah you need to do a 2 into 1 really, putting them sequentially would really mess with the second carbs flow.
@jaredbudzinski84342 жыл бұрын
@@magicstew45 yeah one in front of the other would mess with your flows, but a 2 into 1 messes with your air velocity a lot. I am sure both could figured out, personally I think series carbs would be easier to tune.
@magicstew452 жыл бұрын
@@jaredbudzinski8434 not uncommon to have multiple carbs on car engines, as long as they either use a plenum or just a smooth equal length 2 into 1 it'd work dandy.
@jaredbudzinski84342 жыл бұрын
@@magicstew45 you aren’t wrong, those multiple carbs are sized smaller than what one single carb would be. Again it’s possible the crew would just likely have to put multiple smaller carbs so that they can maintain the correct air velocity through the carbs so that they get the right venturi

I'm telling ya an s&s carb or Harley cv style is going to be your win, a variable vacuum venturi carb will win out on boosted methanol applications, adjusting spring rates on the vacuum venturi will extremely help in keeping fuel ratios fat while also offering far more throat once wot hits

On the top to cut all chases on fuel. Add a fuel injector to the inline between turbo and intake port. Or go full out fuel injection setup. Older corporation do not like turbos. The first set single injection between the turbo and intake is a ticking popper. Meaning boom if not timed right. But header injection is way better than a quick single injector. Thus 2 injector system is the highest prop for your mods. Reminder older style carbs are trash for turbos. Another probability of the system your freezing over your fuel into the turbo but get boost but fuel doesn't want to ignite like it should. Its like plumping on cold start. Fuel injection is better for your application on your build. Don't to discourage you guys. Keep up the hard work. Get a fatter belt and keep trying failures is always a learning step and fix till ya get it right.

For Methonal fuel you have to run like an 8-1 Air/Fuel ratio about double the fuel compared to gasoline, if you add Nitromethane run it a lot richer. For a Gasoline Carburetor. Ya You will have to do someone drilling out of the Carburator passages. I do like the idea of using a properly sized throttle body and a fuel pump and a modern electric fuel injector system . It's probably easier and more tunable... Keep up the Good Fun work! Oh a Pyrometer on the Exhaust and an O2 sensor on the Exhaust are the best way to check your fuel mixture setting as you probably already now.
