I done mine last weekend, luckily i have a ramp. All i done was cut out some plastic from old bushing outer race with a recip was a doddle to pull old ones out. Then i used a gearbox jack, piece of wood and old mount to squeeze new ones in. I pushed both bushes through the bottom, top bush was bulging out the opening for dog bone, i just used a pry bar to gently push it back as i was upping pressure on jack.

The tool looks a big help on that job, I like how you stopped and checked the bush and realigned it, and thinking outside the box to get it aligned properly without the extra part in the kit fitting. Good job mate

A fast effective way to complete the job and move on to the next. Pretty expensive tool and I only wish that tool was available in the States as a rental for my one-time DIY use. Looks like I'll drop my subframe and press the slow way. Great demonstration!

@@CarsExposed So I was not able to press in the bushing evenly or without damaging the bushing case with my H-Frame hydraulic press. I fumbled around with different sized bushing collars, but nothing worked. I ended up biting the bullet, and bought the Laser 6250 from the UK. The task went much smoother and faster. The 6250 is a quality fabricated tool. It was a pretty expensive tool for my one-time job, but was worth the joy of replacing myself. Worked on my 2006 Audi A3. Thanks again for your video!

How's she goin'? Too bad about the first attempt and that Laser doesn't have an adapter for newer cars. But I was impressed that it got the bushings in place. You could never have done that without the tool I bet. Nice that you show that things don't always go as planned or expected!! The real world we call it right!!! Take care!!!

Bit of a fail there😊 I'm better prepared now knowing the tool limitations , definitely couldn't get the job done without it . Hello mate , many thanks indeed for showing me it,s unneccessary to drop the whole subframe off to do this , just undo the 4 bolts holding the antiroll bar brackets down , ( ideal time to change the bushes on these as well ) swivel that up out of the way & tie it to something secure , then go in with this kit , I,ve got my gearbox out so bags of room , albeit under a suspended engine , ( gonna need more than an hard hat if that chain breaks ! ) . Just a suggestion , is the C shaped clamp / bracket meant for the alloy version of the subframe ? Possibly why it won,t fit on the steel one . Get the hole well rid of burrs , it may have got squashed up a bit on a previous bush change done by somebody you know nothing about . This would cause the deformity to cause this effect . Check the hole is still circular with bore gauges first , if not , rectify . I,ll try either copper grease or tyre soap for lube on this , on mine 2 bolts into the steering rack just won,t budge , force them & they,d snap , not on is it & the rack is a hydraulic power assisted one so can,t use heat on their lugs , as it could well explode . This provides the answer , I could see that you need to have the ingoing bushes PERFECTLY aligned & square with the hole , It,s advisable to squash just one in at a time if the kit allows it . I,m used to changing steel sleeved bushes on Landrovers , which are bloody difficult , no give in them at all & the hole has to be perfect or they skew & jam . Thanks for the knowledge , it,s the spirit of KZbin , Best Regards .

Great vid, have just borrowed my mates tool, exactly the same has yours, but the 2 set screws that screw the bar into the subframe is missing, have tried 6mm with a 1mm pitch and 6mm with a 1.25 pitch but neither fit, any chance you could check the size of yours for me ?. cheers . Spike

How to figure out if subframe mounts are bad... Does there any wobbling upon in gear acceleration???
@blower13 жыл бұрын
Just done one of these - subframe off the car. Absolute awful bushing design - always catches on the cut out. I used a generic bushing tool kit, with a threaded rod and cups etc. Had to improvise and use a steel back plate with a hole to pull the bushing through, one bushing at a time. Just like you it kept catching on the slot cut out - in the end i filed down a large chamfer in the bushing where it tends to bulge/catch and using a small pry bar whilst tightening the cup i managed to get both halves of the bush in. Much cheaper than spending £300+ on the laser kit - although it does the job far more easily it still runs into the bulge/catch problem for the later models.

Pain in the balls this bushing mate exactly what I’ve experience with this car , well done for doing it without the laser tool I haven’t regretted it buying it but no where near perfect for the money 👍

Hi there! Great video! I saw you had mentioned that the tool isn’t quite made for your year of car, however you were able to get through it. Do you believe this could be used on a later model such as a Mark 7 golf to get the job done?
@mygolfmk72092 жыл бұрын
Yes, but... the bar that holds the block over the hole where the edge of the mount pokes through... that bar can't be mounted to the Mk7 subframe. So you have the problem of keeping the mount from poking out the hole and getting caught as the mount is pushed in.
