What would have been a better story for GI Joe: The Movie, IMO? Three words: Cobra Civil War. The "Into Your Tent I Will Silently Creep" episode kinda set such a premise up with Cobra Commander founding the Coil.

Falcon was originally going to be Hawk's son. Get it Falcon, Hawk. Duke was his drill instructor at West Point(Duke's enlisted not an Officer) and they never got along. Duke always saw his potential so pushed him harder then other Cadets causing Falcon to resent him. This Rivaly was changed to a sibling Rivaly in later drafts

That explains why Falcon looks like a younger version of Hawk.

when you mention Chuckles should have his own movie, I read that the live action movie is planning to make a movie about him. Also, the 1987 movie didn't do well so they label it as non canon. The intro of the movie was meant to be the final act of the movie. Cobra-La was also never well receive as villains.

The opening to this movie alone is worth owning this on blu ray. One of the best pieces of 80s battle animation outside of Robotech or Gundam.

Like you said, Duke's death was meant to be the final catalyst that sparked Falcon to finally grow up; the training at the Slaughterhouse was enough to start Falcon on his way, but losing his big brother should have been the final shock needed to show Falcon the light. Since Duke doesn't die, the catalyst isn't there. Sure, Duke being severely wounded DOES help push Falcon along, but it's not as dramatically satisfying as it would be if Duke had actually died. Here's my other complaint about Duke not dying in this movie: For years, one of the big complaints against the G.I. Joe cartoon was that no-one ever died or got hurt. Pilots whose planes were shot down would be shown parachuting from the downed vehicles, thousands of laser bolts would be fired, and yet, nobody ever got hit, etc. All of this, according to the children's television advocates, was going to warp the minds of small children, teaching them that violence has no consequences, and lead them to lives of mindless mass murder (either that or teach them to be really BAD shots). Of course, if you think about it, some character's plane gets shot down and he/she has to parachute out of it to keep from dying is showing a consequence for violence. It also shows that Joe and Cobra characters aren't stupid enough to try and die in a plane crash when they could just as easily get out. As for the idea that no-one got hurt, that's not true. People DID sustain injuries in the G.I. Joe cartoon. Granted, they were largely relatively minor injuries along the line of twisted ankles and broken bones. But, if Sunbow and Marvel had tried to show actual blood and guts consequences of warfare, these same anti-violence advocacy groups would have succumbed to an aneurysm. Which brings me back to my point about Duke not dying: What better way to show the consequences of warfare than by having Duke die? There it would have been, in full, glorious color on the TV screen for children to see: get stabbed through the chest and you will die. Hell, we even got to see blood! But no, Optimus Prime's death was too traumatic for the kiddies, so Duke doesn't die, and we get saddled with that lame "Duke's A-OK!" bit at the end. So, if you REALLY want Duke to die, just mute Scarlett's "he's gone into a coma" line, then watch the last minute of the film on mute, which means no voice-over from Doc, and no recovery for Duke.

If you look closely enough near the end of the scene, it sort of looks more like Hawk is saying, "Falcon, I'm sorry" where they have him saying "Falcon, don't worry. We'll do everything we can for Duke."
@knight2976able4 жыл бұрын
Yes it was meant for duke to die in fact falcon was supposed to take Duke's place. Sadly the death of prime changed that ..if you never read what happened kids locked themselves in theirs rooms and closets, crying.. Staying in their rooms for like two weeks .. It was nuts

They ruined the cobra concept in this movie. Cobra is supposed to be a terrorist organization, not a reptilians community. G.I. Joe is good because of it's realism, and by doing that change they ruined the only thing that made G.i. Joe be a good cartoon...they ruined it's realism.

20:59 ...Uhhh...not really. If you watch the cartoon, there's lots of pulp adventure and horror elements in various episodes. The Gods Below, for example. I mean, Destro summons a Great Old One to kill Serpentor in Sins of Our Fathers. A secret lair in the Himalayas of a super-advanced pre-historic people with biological technology? Reminds me of K'n-yan from the Cthulhu Mythos.

What makes making Cobra Commander into one of those Cobra-la assholes is that in comic books he was something far scarier. He was pretty much part of alt right making Cobra alt right terrorist organization. It's scary because those exist in real life unlike snake people from Himalayas. No wonder G.I. Joes and October Guard were more than willing to join forces and fight against them. Also to those that might not know it, Cobra was created by Larry Hama on Marvel Comics that makes them similar to Hydra from Marvel Universe.

I don't understand all the hate for the movie. It was written in part by Buzz Dixon who wrote a lot of the episodes and have you watched them?! Don't understand how you could praise the series with some of the zany stuff they did and then knock the movie. I found it smart and more mature. My father took me to see it in the theater and even he loved it. Oh, in reference to the snake, I think you mean venomous not poisonous.
