I am a fan of Digimon and I find your theory very plausible KMACK TIME. Although I disagree with Pokemon being better (just my opinion) and actually there are very little similarities between the two, so calling Digimon a ''knock-off'' is wrong. A knock-off is an unauthorized, cheap copy of something. And let me tell you Digimon is neither cheap nor a copy.

I love both Pokemon and Digimon. i dont understand why people think they have to choose one or the other. But this is an interesting theory, however there is the humans becoming digital to save the digital and the real world, and there is also the issue that Digimon can talk to humans. You could argue that when the "Pokemon" Digivolves into the next level the corruption forces it back into its original state. Would definitely like to hear more on this theory though. I find it interesting and maybe it'll put an and to the Pokemon/Digimon war.

Well my idea is that Digimon get the ability to talk from bits of information from the Trainers from when they were caught. because there is the whole " you can't catch another persons pokemon" thing. So when they are corrupted they gain a small part of their trainers intelligenc and possibly attributes.

Okay, here are the reasons you are wrong: 1. Digimon came out a year before pokemon. I do not see how it is possible for something to be a copy of something created AFTER it. 2. Your Weedle could NOT become a Dokunemon, because that picture is of a freaking KUNEMON. 3. Digimon being just data? *sigh* This has been explained SO MANY TIMES throughout the anime and manga that I can't believe I'm saying it. The digimon consist of data because that is what their world is made of. When you bring one into the real world, it becomes flesh and blood, it doesn't turn into a f***ing pokemon. 4. The corrupted pokemon file would definately NOT turn into a digimon because the real and digital worlds are completely seperate. The part of the Digital World used in technology is immensely small, and isolated from the rest of the Digital World. 5. V-tamers and f***cking Digimon Next. The humans went into the Digital Wold and stayed human, but their digimon tamagotchis aka devices that contain digimon DNA turned into digimon. The pokemon have NO digimon DNA and would therefore stay as pokemon if they entered the Digital World. 6. Returning. The digimon that were once tamagotchis turned back into tamagotchis when they entered the Real World again. Digimon that were born digimon stayed digimon when they entered the Real World. Anything that was once in the Real World turns back to what it was in the Real World (a.k.a, train to Trailmon, then back to train). Since the pokemon would still be anchored to the Real World, they would not turn into anything from the Digital World, because they are not fully in the Digital World. Also, pokemon better than digimon? Please tell me you're joking.

As for Digimon coping pokemon there are a few problems such as Deltamon came before hydreigon and before DNA splicers were in pokemon Digimon had DNA Digivolveing and mega evolution being powered by a bond well... Digimon did that first to even the name mega evolution was stolen from Mega Digivolve.

Digimon is not a copy of Pokemon! I'm sick of this argument, especially when Pokemon fan rip on Digimon even though they've never seen it just because they think it's a copy. I'll admit that in later seasons of the show that it does seem like they're borrowing a few ideas but that's it, borrowing ideas is different to copying, and don't anyone even dare say Pokemon is completely original and never borrowed from Digimon either. People think Digimon is a copy mainly because both feature mon in the title and feature creatures pairing up with human children to fight against their own kind, that's it, but if you get an unbiased overview of the first seasons of both you'll find them completely different aside from what I just stated. My full argument is too long for a KZbin comment but if you look online you'll find plenty of blogs about how Digimon is different to Pokemon. And I'll just say this before I finish, I watched both shows growing up and then forgot about them for awhile and then I eventually revisited them later on, I fell in love with Digimon all over again while I couldn't even get past the first episode of Pokemon, so I find Digimon superior based on how I like it, not because I force myself to hate Pokemon for stupid reasons.

They're both unique in there own ways, and they both have merits and flaws. Pokemon's games are the best, but the anime is shit. Digimon's anime is amazing, but the games are often times lackluster. Not to be cheesy, but "can't we all just get along" and agree that both are great?

this could make sense, especially because if a computer is designed to hold digital forms of living beings it would probably have a program that tries to restore corrupted .Mon data but will often do it wrong due to the fact of pcs being so primitive at the time, the pc would then not recognize the "restored" file as a pokemon or item and attempt to delete it and fail to do so because .Mon files would probably have anti-deletion flags, the computer would then remove the file by sending away from the computer to prevent harm to the computer or its contents (the file somehow ending up in the digimon universe) so to sum it up 1. stored pokemon gets corrupted 2. p.c attempts fix the corruption resulting in a digimon 3. p.c doesn't recognize digimon as a safe file and attempts to delete it 4. p.c can't delete it so it sends it away could make for some interesting fanfiction

Digimon are better than pokemon. Why? Digimon have human level intelligence, pokemon are at most as intelligent as more intelligent animals such as dolphins. Digimon can talk, pokemon doesn't (and no, poketalk doesn't count). Digimon anime has a better plot than any of pokemon series, which follows in most cases standard template of "ash visits some place, team rocket tries to steal pikachu and/or other pokemon, ash defats team rocket, end episode", where in digimon it's way more interesting. The only thing I can't compare are games, but even if digimon games turns out to suck, digimon still wins due to other things I've mentioned.

Nice argument, but you missed something crucial; The originally. Yes the Digimon anime is WAY better than the main Pokemon anime, but Pokemon is not just an anime series, it's also game series. Pokemon was first made as a game in Japan, it was also it's own thing. What I mean by that is that it had mechanics in game like trading other Pokemon, the point of the game and we're the inspiration came from. Digimon on the other hand, was not always a game series, it was a tamagotchi for boys. Digimon is basically tamagotchi Pokemon. It than got the anime adaptation, but this is basically Digimon's true strong suit. I say this because even though Digimon had a way better show than Pokemon, it didn't impact as hard as Pokemon did. When I was younger, 2nd grade, Pokemon was all around the playground. Kids would trade cards, take about the TV show and battle and trade vai their DS. And it still stands strong today (20th anniversary this year and all), it's something I can talk about with younger people and say, "back in my generation, fairy's didn't exist". Pokemon, at least for me, as always been around. Digimon however...I stumbled upon it when I was looking for something to watch on Netflix. It was an amazing show, but I was older at the time I watched it, already in my teens. I did some research and found that Digimon was originally a tamagotchi turned Pokemon thing that came out in the nineties, as Pokemon's main rival, kind of like Sonic to Mario. Well, as good as the show was, it did not get as popular as Pokemon, than fell into obscurity, kind of like what happened to Sonic... Heck, even Tamagotchi is still very popular in Japan, with them hogging all the cool color ones. I did see a little hope for digimon though, I found a small toy section of it. But in all originally and impact, Pokemon is " better " than Digimon. I just wanted to put this out their since people always claim that Digimon is better than Pokemon based on the anime, You know, to attack Pokemon's weak suit. But Pokemon as the games and the impact it has with a lot of people, kind of like what the Mario games have. (Sorry, this is the last repetitive comparison...) And yes their are some things Pokemon copies from Digimon (Mega Evolution and possible trainer-pokemon friendship fusion thing that might come out in the new games, I'm looking at you) It still has it's originality. Hoped you agree or at least acknowledge this reply and feel free to point out anything I missed, I wanted to reply this way instead of: "OMG!! Yes Pokemon came first. However Digimon was more developed as in terms of character and story development. The story and characters build on each other each episode. There was legitimate threat and danger and was more real. Pokemon though was cute at the time, quickly became repetitive and annoying. Ash is still 10, Pikachu hasn't evolved, and Team Rocket are still the annoying pests they have been since day one, still chasing Pikachu even though there are other Pokemon more rare than it. Besides Ash and Pikachu, and some other duo human/Pokemon lesser characters, there is little to no emotional connection between humans an pokemon, it was more about quantity than quality. Which is why Digimon is superior in that aspect because the digimon are pared usually (with some exceptions) by one digimon per human partner. This allows humans and digimon to develop a more emotional connection as oppose to pokemon which clearly sets up a world where animal fighting and violence is glorified. Pokemon violence was intended for sport while Digimon violence was only for self defense or saving the two worlds. There are more moral and educational values to Digimon than in Pokemon and is an overall better story. Yes Pokemon has kept to the same characters for the most part and has remained popular, which is a hard thing to do and I give them credit for that. And I am sure the creators of Pokemon did not intend to glorify animal fighting but yes it happened. Digimon yes does have it's down moments too. After the second season they began following the Power Rangers formula (Digimon is produced by Toei, the same company that produces Super Sentai/Power Rangers, and Kamen Rider) in which they change the characters and plot each season but maintain the same basic formula. Digimon Adventure 1 & 2 were successful, yet Digimon Tamers set in an alternate universe was much more well received in the USA that the original series. Yet it began to dwindle in popularity in Digimon Frontier. Digimon Savers nearly got Digimon canceled, and it was years before Digimon Xros Wars/Fusion aired. Digimon is still one of my favorite shows and if I had to chose between Digimon or Pokemon it would always be Digimon. And I look forward to the third season of Digimon Adventure next year. Hopefully Nickelodeon doesn't mistreat it because it doesn't involve a yellow sponge.

The slight reason I think Digimon is better, aside from plots, character development and such is that, the series of digimon changed over time and had different seasons. A lot more different characters, different digimon, fusion, transforming all that jazz. As for what I remembered in pokemon (from my childhood in the 90s) is it kinda stayed the same. There was a few different plots and stuff, but it stayed mostly the same for quite sometime. It just ran on about the same thing until their goal finished and set on another quest. I love both shows, but digimon was slightly better in my taste. But yaknow, other people have different opinions lol

I thought of one for last airbender. I haven't seen it anywhere else this is all just thoughts I personally had on this subject. Azula from last airbender. *spoilers for TLA/LOK* Many feel she's schizophrenic. . However I disagree. I'm not sure if there's any writing on it but I have a different impression. First: who is azula? Azula is the fire lords second child, his daughter. Shes not liked much by her mother, but often praised on her paternal side. Her older brother zuko, loved by his mother, banished by his father, is her main source of competition. She has two friends to her name, mai and ty lee. Both only side with her out of fear. Shes terrible at dating, social ques etc. And towards the end she goes "crazy". Second: what does she *do*? Well simply put she tries to kill the avatar in the avatar state. She tries to burn the earth kingdom. She tries to use fear to make people loyal to her. She clings for any control she has. She uses angle. Shes clever, and powerful. And blood thirsty. (But is she? More on that later) Third: why does she do it? Well how often do we examine the motivations of villains? Well in the avatar series (both last airbender and legend of korra) nearly all villains are given real, human, reasons for their actions. from sozin starting the war because of a mistaken belief in american exceptionalism...I mean because the fire nation is so great and it's best to share this perfect and great system... even if you have to invade and start a war to make the other nations see it. Ozai wanted power and would never consider anything too low to take it. Even fire lord was too low a title, he preferred phoenix king. Amon hated benders because of abuse. He had particular issue with the avatar that lead his father to become abusive. Unaloq, like ozai, sought power. He felt himself superior, and the best to bring balance. Even the latest villain, zaheer, was fed by a manipulation at every deeper ideology than blind antagonism. His ideology was anarchy, and opposition of hierarchy and segregation perpetrated not just by royalty or the walls of ba sing se, but by the seperation of human and spirits, and of course, the existence of an avatar. What then is azulas motivation? She doesn't want the highest title. Nor does she really want to kill the avatar. She doesn't actually care about burning cities. She doesn't even care about cherries. What she does care about, is approval. Her sole motivation is to be seen as good enough, strong enough, better than zuko. To earn affection, to feel loved. She wanted her mother and father but knew they weren't compatible. She sought her father knowing ursa had a fondness for zuko. She chooses not to share anything that could damage her reputation. She even freaks out when she thinks she isn't good enough to join her father. She thought she earned his approval, what did she do wrong?! During her coronation set up, she seems to become paranoid. Thinking theres a threat. Indeed she is afraid. Of anything that might damage the approval she worked so hard for. Any imperfection. Any threat to her life and shed be seen as sloppy, ill prepared, or weak. When she saw her mother, it wasn't a schizophrenic hallucination, she hadn't gotten those before. It was stress playing her mind. She had tucked away her need for her mother's approval, but it resurfaced. She knew it was fake. She hated knowing she wanted her mother to be proud. She refused to accept it. She lashed out at herself more than anything. Her final battle with katara was effectively her tipping point. If she couldn't retain het status she wasn't worthy. She'd be seen as weak. Weaker than zuko, whom she spent most of her life painting as weak and pathetic. I haven't read the search, but I do know shegot worse over time. This would fit in with my diagnosis of codependency. In case there's any doubt as to her diagnosis, let's consider the fact that she prefectly matches 10/12. 5/6. And loosely can fit all of them. Symptoms are People pleasing Low self esteem Poor boundaries Reactivity Care taking Control (needing control of their moods, or of those around them, or of their settings) Dysfunctional communication Obsessions Dependency Denial Problems with intimacy, and painful emotions (both of which are shown on ember island, as well as communication issues. Only low self esteem and care taking are a stretch. And this is consistent with her personality ever since she was introduced at the end of book 1. completely submissive and eager to please her father, and the need for complete control of the process, thus choosing a smaller team that can easily be controlled and watched at all times by her.

I would theorise that Digimon came first and became Pokemon instead. The Pokemon world is so similar to ours that some people speculate it's a post apocalypse, while the Digimon world is literally just ours (the real world in Digimon, the digital world is something else of course). Wouldn't it make sense if that the Digimon world turned into the Pokemon world over time?

Both anime couldn't be more different. Both r good but Digimon is more mature and actually has a good story and consequences. Pokemon is good for little children and teaches younger kids small life lessons and Digimon is still a kids show but it deals with more mature tones like death depression and hopelessness.

Your thinking about it backwards... Pokemon is a perfected version of the monsters from Digimon. lets say somehow scientists were experimenting with digimon and their world, to revert them in intelligence and integrate them into augmented reality but accidentally merging the two worlds (human/digimon) resulting in both of their universe's being destroyed. In the ashes of these universe's there is a primordial liquid/data which gives birth to a new universe thus beginning the era of Pokemon. This would explain the weird physics and abilities the Pokemon are able to use, and would also explain why they are able to store Pokemon in computers so easily being that the universe is part data. (maybe humans cant be captured is because they are purely non digital)

Charlie12241 uh digimon are tamagachis pokemon anime came first so the anime copied pokemon trying to make money off the hype but digimon games came first so pokemon came out with games to make money off the rpg monster faze in japan but they hit it big being the first of the two companies to have portable games which became very popular at the time they were rival companies and then came yugioh which copied them and then Duel Masters the biggest rippoff ever of a show I have ever seen its literally the same show as yugioh without the interesting backstory of the pharoh the millennium items and the interesting villains it just sucks imagine if yugioh was just duels it would have sucked that's duel masters in a nutshell the whole series lol basically companies do like to copy each other to make money off of the hype theres nothing wrong with admitting it

To be honest Im a Digimon guy and I have nothing against it. But I hate these Pokemon that say Digimon sucks even though clearly they had never seen more than one episode and I'll have you know I watched at least 30 Pokemon episodes, played firered, ruby, platinum, and Y so you can't called me a hypocrite. But to be fair heres a run down of whats good and bad with Digimon and Pokemon in different forms of media. Anime: Digimon, RPG games: Pokemon, non-rpg games (fighting games, racing games, and no smash bros. does not count): Digimon, Magna: both, Card games: both, American dub music: Pokemon, and Japanese dub music: Digimon. Let the flaming begin.

The theory does not make sense cause the world in digimon anime is our world , but it makes sense if in a pokemon univiverse files got corrupted and someohow people on the normal reality got to access that digitalworld reality

corrupted digimons/files are bad/dark ones so how can a corrupted one make the good ones? I think people loved pokemon so much that they wanted to make electronic versions of them also I would love this crossover and I don't consider oneoff of another it only look like that cause anime is obviously narrower than in japan one is electronic based another animal base

Gonna have to disagree with this entire theory. Because you compare digimon to pokemon, yet some of these digimon appears before these pokemon did. Deltamon appeared before Hydreigon. Some of the digimon don't even look like the pokemon. When you listed Agumon and Charmander and said 'Its a sharp resemblance.', they only had a few similarities, being that their both dinosaurs. Agumon has a blocky snout, yellow skin, bulkish body, and long jangly arms. Charmander is orange, having a fireball on his tail, flattish face, and has tiny little arms and legs. They don't really look alike, plus the PC is an entirely different place from the digital world as the digital world wasn't made by humans, it is instead its own little realm inside the world of tech, its connected to tech across the planet and humans can exist in it aswell. Human's can't go in the PC, and the PC was manmade, when the digital world was digimon made. Your theory is just garbage. Also, neither ripped off the other, both digimon and pokemon are their own things.

Little that anyone know Digimon wasn't meant for kids compared to Pokemon. In Japan, Digimon was aired in the evening slot along with other anime for older viewers while Pokemon was aired during the afternoon along with Power Rangers and Kamen Rider for kids. A lot of mature content dialogue and episodes/scenes were cut in Digimon when it was being filter to suit U.S younger audiences. Shoot, Augumon is an asshole to Tai through and through. Anywho, I suggest that we leave Pokemon and Digimon alone and appreciate that we were able to enjoy both of the worlds when we were kids.

Um its your opinion that Pokemon is better then Digimon, there's no need for "of course it is"! If you get the facts straight Pokemon is the knock off, Digimon came first. I know I'm gonna get a bunch of haters for this, but I honestly prefer Digimon, I find the characters (despite being cliche, and badly dubbed) are much more compelling, no to mention the pets/animals/mons actually speak and have their own fucking personalities! Yes I will agree Pokemon has better games, both electronic, and trading card, but the better concept, and TV show goes to Digimon. Remember this is simply my opinion please don't kill me, or threaten me.
