Honestly I know little about woodworking, and even less about gunsmithing, but i know attention to detail , it comes along with my OCD. I can appreciate that type of effort, and most importantly the dedication to see something like that through to the end. That was amazing to watch. You are indeed a master at your craft, much respect. And thank you KZbin for having an algorithm with some damn taste! Glad this one popped up.

@earlgateman37556 жыл бұрын
If you make up some long headless action bolts you can drill those holes first, and use them to guide the metal down into the wood. Much of the roughing out can be done by measurements.
@precisionmachineshed6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do have to stuff to make some custom guides, just have not done it yet. Next time I do one of these, I will be using a saw, and cutting out larger chunks with a lot of smaller cuts.

Good job...what wood did you use for the grip cap and end cap? Is the glue line down the center of the stock? I have some beautiful Birds Eye Maple ( not big enough for a stock unless I laminate) and was wondering if the seam is down the middle and did you use epoxy or wood glue to laminate? Thanks Precision
@precisionmachineshed6 жыл бұрын
It was a "roasted fiddleback maple" very dry stuff, man made. This stock was made from 3 boards so there's two glue lines towards each side. I believe I used an outdoor Woodtite glue that was waterproof. Glued the hell out of each piece and then put as many clamps as possible on there. My glue lies are very tight. They have not moved in over 6 years before I finished it.

I'm not sure the moisture content changed much since I got it. It would however be a good idea to let it dry add long as possible after you glue it to let the wood/glue stabilize a little.

Fantastic workmanship, however if you trip whilst holding that stock you could break or dislocate if not sprain your thumb

As a Doctor, I would disagree with that statement, It is possible I suppose, but anatomically speaking, you are more likely to fall on the ground and jam or dislocated your thumb by hitting rough or uneven terrain. Unless you are carrying your rifle in expectation or taking a shot, you are more likely to be walking around with one of these with a sling. 99% of the time, that's how I carry them.
