After seeing the incredible work done by Larry and his team, my new goal is to own a Tracked Outdoors Hagglund! Maybe if they take long enough to build this one, and I up my budget quick enough, I can even buy mine back one day!

Excellent content in this video. Casey, your somewhat impulsive but well intentioned purchase of a used Hagglund and willingness to sell what ever is in your yard for the right price eventually led to meeting Larry and his team and introduced to all your viewers an amazing tracked vehicle custom rebuild and factory type shop in Wyoming, USA.

Casey's love of nature shows in the beginning of this video. Tracked Outdoors is the kind of place I would enjoy roaming around. As a young boy, we lived on the old farmstead started by my great grandfather. (On U S Route 1, 20 miles south of Washington, DC, 3 miles from Marine Base Quantico). On the east end just off the highway there was a very small "junkyard" with a sew military trucks and an old army tank with the gun turrent attached and top hatch removed. We boys enjoyed playing there. Big boys toys are exciting to little boys. Now the farm is no longer---property over run with houses and two churches. I am a fan of restoring and salvaging treasures from the past. Good to see the Hagglund find a good resting place on its journey. Larry is a likeable guy who has an passion for restoration. Thanks for sharing this very interesting tour. Edit: An excellent tour and very educational.

I was on the Fielding Team when the Hagglunds M973 Small Unit Support Vehicle (SUSV), was handed off to the US Army at Ft Wainwright, AK in 1984. The vehicles were initially equipped with a 5 cylinder Mercedes-Benz engine with a 4 speed automatic transmission also made by Mercedes-Benz. They also had a high and low range transfer case. The vehicles would go through the deep snow without any problems because of its light footprint. The 5 cylinder engines suffered from overheating and leaking headgaskets. Cylinders 4 & 5 were siamesed and thats where the head gaskets failed. Going through wooded areas often caused damage to glass and fiberglass. These vehicles had the capability to swim, but you had to follow the manual to the letter or it would sink. An infantry battalion at Ft Wainwright sunk one in McFadden Pond in 1986 because instructions weren't followed. Tracks and roadwheels wore like iron in snow, but on paved roads or gravel, like was short. As these vehicles were purchased from Sweden, not then a NATO member, the US military was banned from mounting armaments and weapons on the vehicles. Around 1990, the M973A1 SUSV replaced the old M973's. The new vehicles had a lot of improvements, including a Mercedes-Benz 6 cylinder engine. Towards the end of the 90's these vehicles were phased out and sent to DRMO to be auctioned off to the general public. The Hagglunds designation for this vehicle was BV-206D. The D meaning diesel. The gasoline models were just BV-206.
