Hi again. I noticed that the GWG-1000 is quite an old model (7+ years?). Was wondering, do you STILL consider it to be the gold standard of rugged G-Shock or perhaps there is a newer G-Shock that could take that title? I am not as informed as you on the newest models, so your insight would be greatly appreciated! Perhaps there is a prototype in the making? Thanks!!

Hey buddy :) Well I don't know everything about G-Shocks, that's down to gshock highfashion, he's really tops upon that side, I'm more about the experiences and what I get from them. As i'm not sponsored and I buy all my watches, then I can say how it is... basically if it's on my channel, then I like it :)) The GWG-1000 was never planned to be bought, I always had intention to review it, and I can tell you, I've been asked more times NASA has sent a rocket up LML :-P I feel owning the watch gave a better review side, as it's mine not borrowed, so could take my time to understand it. Is it the best G-Shock, well this is down to the individual, but if asking me, no it's not. It does have flaws, but all watches do, so you have to work with them, than agains't, you 4x4 truck can only climb part of the mountain, you need to do the rest, so it's like working together, so when stating it's 7yrs old, does it still perform, well a 50yr old compass still performs even if a little wobbly. When the GWG-1000 first came out, I was aiming my sight at it, then a buddy of mine mentioned that there is a new Gulfmaster which has a diver sensor, so went for that, as it does the tides, so it's now my kayaking G-Shock :) Is it better than the GWG-1000?? in terms of functions, yes, by a long shot, and if I had to choose between them now, the GWN-Q1000 Gulfmaster would be the chosen one... just packs more functions and does it better. Would I recommend the GWG-1000??? If you wanted one watch that does all you really need, then yes, even today, but if you want the functions, and you like gadgets, then I would have to say the GG-B100 Mudmaster. I have done a video comparing these two just to add. I'm really enjoying the GWG-1000, it's basic, has a sub-dial to show exactly which mode you're in... but is does it all in a plentiful way... I did explain in one of my videos it's like a piece of cake... just the right amount, not over filling making you fat, not to leave you wanting more, just a perfect slice... you know, it doesn't always have to have all the bells and whistles to be great, my Father has the latest XJ Jaguar SS that's packed with modern tech, but my old 2004 Subaru Forester can go through floods, drive in snow covered alps and has less things to go wrong... man and machine, back to basics keeping me being self efficient :)) As for what's next from CASIO?? Your guess is only as good as mine, but CASIO won't be making the ultimate best of the best G-Shock, they like to split the features around to make you buy them of course LML :-P Hope that helps, sorry for the short reply :))

I do own the GGB-100 and think it’s a great watch, really superb. But just can’t get my thought off the solar recharge capacity, it has a certain… I don’t know, it’s like a childhood dream to have a watch that never dies… And yes, well, regarding the 7 years old model statement, it was not a complaint. But you know, my OCD would hate it if I bought a GWG and then a NEW GWG comes out a month later LOL. And btw, you’re my top G-Shock man.

@@noxBrutalis I'm so pleased I can express my short replies to you LML :-P That's everyone who drives a Range Rover, next week another tweak and new model released LML the GWG-1000 is will be aways known as a reliable SUBARU and not a cheap Skoda wanting to be an AUDI... it does all you need and if they could improve it, I could only imagine adding a ((VIBE)) motor to it, as it really doesn't need anything more. I remember back in the 2007 getting the first iPhone, but it wasn't till I got the 3GS that I thought this is just the perfect phone... now the new iPhones are a complicated mess with really bad batteries, and you can't use third party cables and so on, but the new iPhones are complicated for no other reason than to make you think it's doing something better, and the fact is, it's just delaying you with a distraction. I use a no fuss Blackberry Passport from 2014, and the battery still lasts 2days+ and it just works without crashing and updating every evening, and that's why I keep it, and this is like the GWG-1000, old school that won't ruin your day looking for something that would've been one button press away. I often worry about the direction of G-Shock, they have to remember, they just need to make it strong and feature the things we need at the end of our wrist, and not go into something that Apple and Samsung always battle over... The GG-B100 is an improvement while keeping it still to the origin of G-Shock, that new smart Google G-Shock is just a gimmick, and we all know that Garmin is the better one to have, so I don't know what young brains they are employing, but they need to really listen to us, well not all of you, as you do come out with some daft ideas LML :-P I did a video on a DWS-6900 which is a fantasy watch, and I wrote instructions for it, and it doesn't even exist, but something like that would be better than just making displays with tiny icons that are useless in low lighting. The GWG-1000 is just a lovely slice of cake, and if you find one for a deal, then you won't be unhappy... and don't think that the newer one will be better, it'll be different, but in the G-Shock community, respect is given to all G-Shocks regardless of their release date, unlike BOLEX that all fight over a 1mm size increment, which of course will make them look even more like a billionaire driving in their diesel convertible LML :-P Solar watches can live their battery life to 15yrs plus, maybe 20yrs, but have to also remember, if the solar fails, then it's just a battery with 15% reserve. Cooking a solar watch in the sunshine will also cause the solar panel to ghost, and this just makes the watch look like it has moisture inside and will of course put you off the watch. I understand solar is much more less fuss, and I do like this side of practical, but replacing a battery isn't a week long, in fact it opens up the watch side of the passion even more, which gives you great satisfaction that you're now a service engineer LML :-P Again, sorry for my short answer LML :-P

Really thorn between the upcoming gm-2100 steel in August and the mudmaster... Different animals, but I love both... And the price is not that different (talking about mudmaster for 300 bucks). Thoughts?

Well some have asked if I will get the G-2100, and the answer is no, and my reason is that I prefer to have a G-Shock that's useful than having it more for the fun factor... the G-2100 looks nice, but looking at the functions, it's all a little on the tiny side... the design is nice, but playing off the AP, now seems to be everywhere, so in my eye has become to popular which has spoiled it for me... I would still like to review one, and my buddy at StormRider loves it, so much he's got a few :) So it's down to taste and functions... the Mudmaster (not sure which one) offers way more functionality for sure. As for a nice looking going out G-Shock, the G-2100 does make that side look more smarter because of its size, more with regards to thinness, as the Mudmaster is a bulk bodybuilder :-P You could find a cheaper G-2100 and fit your own metal bezel and save you some pennies, but not sure if modding is your side??? If asking me, Mudmaster... GWG-1000 or GG-B100 :)) But this is what you need from it, my opinion isn't to say what's best for you... so do you want that AP look, or do your want ABC with a ticking second hand??? Hope I've done some justice to your question :-P

@@fsr2880 That's a good idea... rushing into another G-Shock just because it's new, doesn't meant you need it... maybe in a few days you'll have a different mind set, and you'll be glad you didn't go with impulse... but if you can't stop going back to it, then that's a sign you really like it. The GST is a great watch, so if you're wanting metal G-Shock, maybe something different like a square that sits between them both... My GLX-5600 looks amazing with its metal bezel and bracelet (have posted a video) and it has a good size too... looks like if CASIO released it that way... but the module is very handy, some great quirks with that one, and the LCD is really sharp on the eye :)) Just an idea, but holding back is sensible :) Cheers!

My watches are all large and 46mm being the smallest. I appreciated the advantage of large watches by noticing in '66 the San Francisco city bus drivers having 'drug store' pocket watches (sold for under $4 in drug stores) with custom leather work strapped to their wrists like watches. As someone with great empathy for the working class I viewed small, petite, and expensive watches more of a class divide than an appreciation of watches and their making. As a side note look up The Jura Federation started in Switzerland in 1869 by watch artisans.

Well nobody can argue with that... just be carful with aftermarket straps/bracelets, as the lugs are more exposed to fractures, as the original strap is designed to strengthen the lugs.

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman They are genuine. I had to order JaysAndKays adapters for the GWG-1000 from America. They use the original parts on the watch to keep the strength in the lugs. You can search for them on ebay.co.uk. The watch can then take any standard 22mm strap or bracelet.

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman The problem has to do with where the attachmnet is to the g-shock body which is a ressin material; g-shock counters this problem by having their ressin strap designed for added stength to their lug design.

@@peterbdavies Hey buddy, I've had a bad experience with jaysandkays and how they dealt with my issue... I used one of their bull-bars and when I removed it, noticed it had dented the bezel, when I wrote to them they ignored my emails, then adjusted the description that they take no responsibility towards damaged bezels... well that's one company that doesn't get my respect at all and in anything they sell... but if you're happy my friend then that's great... but to add, my buddy on another channel broke a lug on his GPR-B1000 Rangeman because of his jaysandkays adaptor and that really made me mad... I hope you don't have the same issues... don't want to worry you, but I have to speak out and share my experience, and I'm really hoping you never have to deal with jaysandkays like I did. I did post a video about it just to add... yeah I hold a grudge, but if they replied to me to at least understand my side, then I would've soaked it up, but they just deleted me, and that goes down forever against them. @@artemisXsidecross The other side, is that G-Shock are a huge company that have been making watches for many decades, while jaysandkays are really jumping upon ideas without the millions of testing behind them... they are simply just to make the money... of course they have a following, as many of their buyers aren't pushing their G-Shocks in all extremes... if CASIO approved the adaptors, they would fit them, also for the bull-bars, CASIO bull-bars are integrated into the bezel so they don't damage parts, that was just bad manufacturing and wasn't teated long term... I have no good things to say about that company, and if anyone asks I will answer with my own experience, and not make it front headline mouthing off slander... I've made my video with openness to what could happen, and it doesn't mean it'll be for everyone, but playing Russian roulette isn't my game. Replacing parts like a metal bezel is also a risk, but I don't wear them thinking they're like a bull-bar giving me false ideas that it has increased the protection, it's nothing but for show and will cost you a bezel replacement. Maybe I test would be good, to show the difference with regards to their adaptors, I feel jaysandkays need to make this, put their product where their money is, or is that mouth??? LML :-P

That’s exactly what I’ve done two days after I got my GWG-1000. I put some cloth over the keeper to prevent scratches and just pressed it with a pair of pliers. Problem fixed 👌

I'm mechanically minded, so when I saw that it slipped so much and also saw the split at the back, the solution was apparent to me. My gwr 1000 gravitymaster came today and I solved the problem being discussed by WatchUP69 Mr Rangeman. At first, I was simply just going remove the buckle and replace the medal keeper, but the buckle has either very stiff spring pins or the buckle was not meant to be easily removed. With the watch being just hours in my possession, I decide on an easier solution until I figure out the buckle attachment problem. What I ended up doing is taking an older resin g-shock strap of the same width and cutting a small wedge shape a little bit longer than the medal keeper and wedging it between the strap and keeper to take out the slack. It worked well today and the keeper did not slide around. Has anyone else ever have a buckle removal problem I described?

I have no need for it, as I have the Fenix 6Pro and Instinct, and after seeing a few videos, that touch screen just looks terrible... and when wet or cold, will it just fail??? I feel Garmin have nailed this side better, the GSW-H1000 does look nice with its duel layer display, but that's it the most... if I can get my hands on one to view then yeah, but as for functionality and performance, the Fenix 6Pro destroys this new GSW-H1000, and that's coming from a huge G-Shock heart. What are your thoughts my friend, as that was just my opinion, and not having the watch in hand I can't give my 100% view. Cheers :))

@@photography555 I'd go Fenix with this side if you need colour in your maps. I can tell you, this GSW-H1000 will have issues, more towards that is uses outdated tech already, and having a touchscreen on a watch, is really a big fail, as I'm sure nobly will review one when wet... I would, but I don't want to mock it too much, as many will still buy and enjoy it, as from my experience, the Garmin side have this nailed! Even the Fenix 5X Plus is more than capable for today, and looking on the secondary market they're not expensive???

Oddly, the metal keeper on the GWG-1000 is hailed as a sign of toughness but the reality is different. So resin it is for showing a resin strap its place.

I'm for resin keepers the most, even if they have a shorter life... I've replaced many keepers in my time, and the one used on the new SEIKO Arnie which I nickname the pepper pot, is really not practical, it's way too large and wants to clash on everything... so have a CASIO resin keeper instead LML :-P I do feel the overall usefulness of a keeper is lost in the looks department and not the everyday functional aspect... glad eBay is full of keepers LML :-P

@@traviswalker8933 There's always a weak point on G-Shock's and this is usually with regards to the spring pin on the buckle, otherwise you could have serious harm if you catch your watch in something... with the keeper side, I feel why can't the strap go underneath so doesn't need a keeper, like some type of butterfly clasp???

@@traviswalker8933 Well you've just nailed my thoughts too, so needs to be a clever system... but really once the watch is fitted it stays on, but situations are never the same, so have to cover all things weird and odd LML :-P We are in 2021 and we still use cables and buckles :-P I'm looking at a nice clasp for my new Swiss watch that I will review, this takes the tongue side of the strap underneath and thought what a nice idea... but if dirty then of course this will be a fat red card :-P I have to say, when my GWN-Q1000 bracelet is covered in sand, you need to rinse the clasp, otherwise it jams on that spiral gear inside for adjustment... saying that. bezels get stuck too if not rinsed soon after being in sea waters. Maybe pocket watches will return??? LML :-P

Flappy straps not cool :-P I can't believe it was passed using the tallest keeper for this strap... the GW-9400 is almost there, just a little tuning and it'll be perfect... CASIO you really are silly sometimes, and a resin keeper to me seems to be the best of the bunch... or just make G-Shocks with resin bracelets :))

@@rawsonforever Technically that's not a bike, so you could get away with it LML :-P I've seen one, but that exhaust needs to be just a little smaller and much louder :-P BMW's are making a great way in their retro designs, the K750's are getting chopped into Cafe racers, so there's a big shortage on parts at the moment.

The 'spring bar' equivalent of most g-shocks are its weakest point, and many a sad story can be told of trying to use nato straps on g-shocks.

@@artemisXsidecross Needs beefy spring bars for NATO, but the tolerances are way too tight, thus why you need an adaptor, but this does weaken the lugs... but every strap needs a weak point, or you'll loose a arm like I almost did when loading my truck, but from the buckle end that pin popped out, so am grateful of that :))

I use a keeper and the black buckle (tang is not interchangeable) of a g-shock GW3000BB-1A 2011 Aviator (Casio part 91087045375) for my gg b100 mudmaster. I had used a brass punch to bend the keeper,on my other g-shocks, but still not the best solution for me. If anyone knows of a replacement black buckle for either gwg 1000 or gg b100 please post it. :) P.S. Another possibility that I have used is to cut an older watch strap of the same width and place a short piece between the buckle and the keeper. This will take up the slack on the primary strap buckle and keeper and keep it all taut.

I feel the lug used on my Fenix 6Pro would solve many issues, easy to use and remove the watch off the wrist... I'm looking at types of butterfly clasps and seeing if that would be something for G-Shocks??? seen a few flat ones that aren't bulky but they still look a little dressy for the style of watch... but when a keeper has a blow out and that strap pokes out and latches on everything, it's embarrassing like having your trouser zipper open LML :-P What material are you wanting for a black keeper???
