@@Caspicum your'e allowed to say it's a shitty game lol. I agree with the comment. I remember playing it as a little guy. I loved it. However, I remember it being significantly easier than legacy of goku 2. In lg2 I kept on getting my ass handed to me by android 19. In Buu's fury, I had absolutely no asses handed to me, and was, indeed, the one handing out asses to their respective owners. After learning what a STAT is (thanks to final fantasy) I could see myself going back to these two games and seeing why one is objectively better. I would have to try it myself, but from the gameplay, it seems like you were pretty easily op'ing everything... which for a seasoned rpg gamer is no fun. I loved this game when I was kid. I would love to replay both of them and give an opinion. Either way, if it sucks, it sucks. Don't deny that you think it sucks.

Although I like Buu's Fury, I see what you mean in terms of the poor choices they've made with this game like the wall bounce removal and the exp door spam. I do think for some characters, they've definitely made Ki Blasts more viable, such as Vegeta's Big Bang attack now dragging enemies giving him the chance to beat down foes as the ball goes across the screen.
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
Oh for sure. I love the attempted integration of the ki blasts, and big bang attack is basically a free punch enabler. The beams feel so satisfying as well, it's just a shame that to use them more than every so often, you either need to constantly pause to chug healing items, or wait for a Super Saiyan power cycle.

Fun fact about Vegeta's big bang attack, when it's fully charged and moving across the screen, you can actually shoot a ki blast at it causing it to explode with a wide radius upon enemies for a shit ton of damage. That's how it's meant to be used in this game.

I’ve never played buu’s fury before until last week, and i beat the whole game already. I seriously loved this game. Level doors aside, the gameplay mechanics added in Buu's Fury makes the game 10 times more enjoyable than the first 2 games. Enemies repositioning themselves every time you punch them was super annoying. And lack of control with stat points and when to apply healing items was also a huge oversight of the prequels. It's personally my favorite of the trilogy, and grinding was part of the fun. Otherwise, you could beat the whole game in a single evening.

Legacy of Goku II is still incredibly comfy. I'm pretty harsh on games, as you can probably tell from the video, but every time I play it, I revert back to that kid playing it at 80% speed on a very primative version of Visual Boy Advance. I think it's good enough to ignore a lot of the smaller issues because the flow of gameplay is pretty consistent. Very rarely do you have big pauses or momentum breaks. Always worth confirming though, especially since it's like 6 hours long.

Honestly never thought about criticizing this game. There definitely is pacing issues and lack of side quests/interactions. My original play through I never noticed the lopsided imbalance for the physical attacks. Since I tried to balance stats equally. Which leads to my personal critique that you can choose to distribute your stats anyway you like and the game will be as challenging as you make it. And I'm one of those love to grind type people so I never saw any issues with needing to grind. Pointing it out has made me realize ots required. But I love how this game has a power trip. Abusing that physical attack makes grinding easy and fun. My highlight examples being: 1. Grinding goku to level 100 before 65 door. 2. Grinding Gohan to 175 before tournament/Babidi. The latter was to receive Gohan at level 200 on Supreme Kai's planet well ahead of normal circumstances. Some may say its ridiculous crazy to do that.

Just got done the video, it very much feels like an attempt to streamline the game. Something I never really understood. If they are playing the third game in the series, it's clear that the people who bought it have at least a basic understanding of the pacing from the previous game. The level doors just seem so bizarre, wouldn't it just make more sense to have the main game level curve me lower. Like 125, and have some extra areas? Instead of making the player grind 10-15 levels between every major encounter?
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
Pretty much. A 100 hard cap would be fine with lower EXP gains and proper stat balancing. If they wanted to go crazy, chucking in a few end-game areas with better equipment, or a higher level cap solely for those areas would go a long way too.

Thanks for the in-depth review! I appreciate how you went into detail the differences between the 2 games. I loved both games as a kid, but noticed over the yrs I went back to LoG2 a lot more. I think this video explains why. I didnt have a problem with the storymode (lack of side-quests) as it follows the manga/anime quite closely. The main issue I have with it is the big drop in difficulty and the stupid amount of grinding. That lv85 gohan gate ALWAYS gets me! There isn't a fight in the game that comes close to the difficulty of the final Cooler fight, or the ussj trunks vs cell fight from LoG2. I wish the dev's made the stat boosts automatic, so you wouldnt manually pump all the stat gains into strength to 1-shot enemies. Got no issue with the held items, just wish they buffed the enemies, or at least nerfed the characters a bit. Also I agree they should've made mystic gohan a separate transformation. (I know this happens in other games like Budokai2 & 3, where he has blue aura and strength increase) I still enjoy going back to Buu's fury once a yr, but it doesnt feel as polished or refined as LoG2. You know that LoG2 is a well made game, when you see there arent any major game breaking glitches or oversights, like the senzu bean trick.

I don't think I disagree with a take more than this one on the entirety of the Internet. 1. The "grinding" you complain about in the beginning of the games takes *literally* just a few minutes. 2. You're GIVEN exp equipment and enemies drop it for grinding later on; a ten minute trip to the circus grinds you twenty levels. 3. What do you mean Goku died just at the end of LoG2? You spend the ENTIRE GAME without playing as Goku, even when he IS alive, and then when he dies at the end, you get a whole Hercule as a replacement.
@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын
Well lucky for you, being wrong isn't illegal... Yet. 1. The grinding shouldn't exist at all, there's no valid reason as to why any of the story is gated behind levels. It's unnecessary padding to add time to an already short game. (I also complain about the grinding they make you do throughout the entire game, particularly to 140 before the final boss.) 2. The fact that they make you grind, and then offer you ways to shorten it shows how little care and effort was put in. If it was such a non-issue, there wouldn't be ways to speed it up from the outset. Nobody would want to speed it up because its inclusion is so integral to the game. 3. Goku died at the end of LoG2, as I said. I am correct. My point was that once you got a character, they weren't dying and reviving sporadically. Sometimes they weren't available, sure, but the story lent itself better to an RPG format. Goku is the strongest character, so it makes sense that he'd be the final unlock, and once you get him, you've got him. In Buu's Fury, if you get a character, you never know how long you'll have them for and in what circumstance which I don't think lends itself well to an RPG progression system, no less one where you've gotta grind. LoG2 was also a longer game, and a bit more lenient with who you could control at any given time, taking a few more liberties from the story. idk if you watched the rest of the video, but I'd be interested to hear your justification for the worse combat system, the gates that respawn and lock you out of areas for no real reason, stopping the player every few hits to tell them they've leveled and all the other garbage that Buu's Fury is filled with.

Buu's Fury was simply a minor step up from Legacy 2. If you liked the first one you shouldn't have a problem with the second. They were both good games and fun to play. I don't see the point in complaining about grinding in an JRPG. That's what they are known for, especially in back then. Besides both games had the same grinding system. Honestly this video is padded out with too many off topic subjects about Legacy 2, repeated points and questionable complaints. The game did remove stuff, but what they added outweighed the loss. I loved both of Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu's Fury, they were my childhood games.
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
Buu's Fury wasn't a step up from much. I mean, it's better than Legacy of Goku 1, but so is almost everything. Legacy of Goku 2 is far better than Buu's Fury in almost every way. Grinding isn't the issue, it's grinding in absence of actual content that's the issue. I have another video on this called "I like grinding in video games." I also briefly mentioned the two points in Legacy of Goku 2 where you'd need to grind, and they're still bad, but far, far less significant than in Buu's Fury, which is focused around padding the game length. Honestly, that's one of the smaller criticisms when it comes to Buu's Fury though. The world design, pacing, everything is just hot garbage tbh. That's why I had to keep jumping back to Legacy of Goku 2, because it did almost everything better and I pointed out why. Buu's Fury did add a lot, but it wasn't good additions. What it took from Legacy of Goku 2 was a unique method of combat interaction, and what it added was broken ways to one-shot everything with no challenge, and an item system to chug your health back to 100% whenever you needed. It's bloated and messy. I'm not saying don't like it, I say this at the end of the video, I enjoy Buu's Fury for what it's worth, but it is significant worse in areas that Legacy of Goku 2 did exceptionally well in.
@DriedPlank4 жыл бұрын
@@Caspicum Sorry, when I said "first one" at the beginning I meant Legacy 2 and comparing it to Buu's Fury. I couldn't go back to play Legacy 1 and honestly forgot it existed. I can't speak too deeply on the games because It's been many years since I've last played them. But I never noticed the difference in padding. There were level barriers on most things, and side content and areas after getting new characters so you won't have to only grind to make story progression. In combat, they took away charge attacks and instead gave characters more unique movesets with the addition of fusion and more transformations. Also adding an equipment system to feel like a standard rpg, point allocation and money (zeni). Compared to Legacy 2, it's a nice change instead of grinding for one purpose. I found both games quite challenging. Of course I was way younger when I played both games, It may be a breeze now. But that's simply based on your experience. Legacy 2 has better World design. I have a hard time remembering standout areas in Buu's Fury, they were a bit standard I think. Compared to like adding rain or flying from island to island. But I don't think there was a difference too glaring. Pacing for both games were about as equal because of how I usually play RPGs. I do everything I can in between and save the main story for last. This is all just my opinion, I played these years ago. I just don't remember there being this night and day difference in quality you're talking about.

@@DriedPlank I assumed you meant Legacy of Goku 2, because you were speaking kindly of it :^) I used to feel the exact same as you, I'd tell people "OH MAN IF YOU LOVED LEGACY OF GOKU 2, JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU PLAY BUU'S FURY." then I replayed it for a stream a few years ago and it was... Genuinely a bad time. I'd recommend replaying them at some point if you've got the time and resources. There's definitely a lot you forget about, like before I replayed it, the big moments for me were the early game with Gohan and the tournaments, the stuff with Babadi, HFIL, and the end-game grind to 200 as I tracked down every airship I could find to blast suckers for easy EXP. Replaying it allowed me to see those things very, very differently. You'll probably still end up enjoying it because despite the flaws, it's still pretty comfy, but replaying it was definitely a rude awakening for me about how trustworthy my memory is.

There is a scrapped skill in the game's file that transforms Gohan into great saiyaman.
@Caspicum4 жыл бұрын
That would've been nice too.
@sammygorilla86884 жыл бұрын
Casp O'Saurus There is a cheat code out there in a bunch of places for it. If you use it with any gohan besides school gohan the transformation animation never happens. When you use the watch in saiyaman form you become school gohan.

Honestly the Best way to play the game is to Replay it and know who you need before you need them, then use them for that section! Also for the Dragon Balls, Grind on the Area with a Dragonball that doesn't have a Gate until you reach a the Required Level to be able to get Past the Gates in the Rest of the Areas as it has Powerful Enemies that will give plenty EXP. But Don't fight the Boss until your done Grinding!

Legacy of Goku 2 was a superior game

So the problem is it fluffed itself out too much with repetitiveness.
@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, because it's pretty short, and has a similar overall structure to Legacy of Goku 2. It's more how everything plays out in a stilted way with the level doors and hot-swapping between places at break-neck speed. The combat being worse didn't help.
@aurafox12 жыл бұрын
I think the idea behind the level gates was to emphasize DragonBall's theme of always training to get stronger moreso than making sure you're at an adequate level to handle whatever challenges were ahead of you. But, it's still a terrible idea, especially with the absurd levels some of these gates have. I remember playing this game as a kid and having my jaw drop at the ridiculous level requirements the game demanded of you in some places. I spent a lot of time running back and forth with the 100-ton equipment punching robots and stuff.
@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын
I'm still down for the idea of endlessly trying to improve through training. The Buu Saga was the worst one to attempt that in though. They just yell and get magically stronger, not even like the Cell Saga where they have to disappear before they magically get stronger, or the Namek Saga where they get touched by an old man... oh no. I'm playing through the OG NES DBZ RPGs which might become a video idk yet, but they've got infinitely more grinding than buu's fury and still manage to be interesting. they're not good, but they are interesting :^)

I like buu's fury, the only thing I agree with is that as soon as gohan unlocks his ultimate form, super saiyan transformation is disable. they should have made it so that he has two separate transformations.
@Caspicum2 жыл бұрын
You don't want more dungeons and stuff to run with Gogeta? Or more content in general from the side-stories/movies? I also said more of that would be good. More story battles that weren't cutscenes in tournaments and stuff was another thing I said would've made it better.
