My mom is in her mid sixties and she remembers Burberry as a middle class brand during the 60s and 70s. She once told me that they were out of their minds, if they thought that her generation was going to pay luxury prices for Burberry, after being a much more reasonable priced brand. I have a couple of things from them from the y2000 era, but nothing about the brand has been really enticing for me since then. And when I saw their last collection prices I couldn’t stop thinking: they are completely lost ( and out of their minds).

The reason why "high quality replica bags" are called "high quality" is that their dimensions are exactly the same as the originals. This is why people tend to choose *esluxy* for "high quality replica bags" nowadays. Just by looking at the bag, you can't tell the difference between the original and the high quality replica bag.
@AnoussaCazalis5 ай бұрын
The fact these bags can be faked and sold at a fraction of the price just shows how much the luxury brands are ripping people off. Yes quality and materials might not be the same but some dupes are pretty good. I’ve wasted so much money on designer bags and, as a 50 year old, could have bought another house or many *esluxy* with what I’ve spent. My advice is to only buy if you can afford it plus other important things and don’t necessarily turn your nose up at a dupe!

There should be one affordable heritage line that has the trenchcoats, the dufflecoats, quilted jackets with the corduroy collars, wellingtons, classic chelsea boots and military boots. An SA walked up to me and very nicely asked if I liked the jacket. I replied “mmmm that may be an overstatement lol” and I looked at her and said “do you like it 😗” and she quietly replied “…😬 I don’t like it. And I haven’t sold a single one” Growing up I used to love Burberry. It was very British with a mixture of classy but modern, militaristic, and country gentleman. I thought once I grew up and be able to afford it, I would buy many of their items. And I would if it didn’t go downhill. I do like what they’ve done with tapping back into the archive, but the prices are unjustifiable

Too many changes too quickly imo. Ricardo left givenchy yet the antigona is still a classic. Completely agree with your analysis. As a British gal myself. I grew up thinking Burberry as old money and aristocrat, the boys going down the Bullington Club wearing their trenches. Then in the early 2000's a coup happened and the label was overtaken by fakes seen on every high street and pub car park fight. Somehow Christopher Bailey managed to keep steering the ship in the classy direction. Since Christopher Bailey's departure the label has attempted to follow the direction of other labels which it should not have done. It's an old British label and that is what it should embrace. Yes, you can add small additions of 'out there' pieces, but the bulk of the collection should stick with it's original aesthetic. We have just had this 'quite luxury' phase and this was Burberry's chance to really lean into that and they didn't.
@Jay-Dot5 ай бұрын
Cassie, I agree with you on the brands identity crisis. I always saw Burberry as a great entry point into luxury as I feel like they used to have more competitive prices but still had brand recognition with the check or knight on horse logo. Too many brands are trying to become so exclusive at the same time and I don't think there's a whole ton of space in that $700 for the most basic T Shirt in existence with a name logo printed on it. They need to offer those polos with the check on the collars for under $400. I think their history of being more common and everywhere will never allow them to be a BV, Loewe, etc.

💯 THIS!!! I’ve found over the years with SO MUCH stock, they don’t even know how to merch it & this has also become a disadvantage. When the Sydney flagship store opened I was asked for my opinion on the layout & visual merchandising - they were given the entire Burberry Prorsum collection for the first time & it was just all put into the first corner on the left & I was like ‘WHAAA!?! 😳?’ The new store was located in an amazing old heritage listed bank with basically a runway down the length of the store & I said ‘Why is it not displayed down here?’ & then their Trenches as you said - what they’re known for - was all randomly tucked to the right of the store & was just all over the place! Even the children’s section was tucked right down the back behind this giant pole where if you didn’t go down that way, you could not see it from any other angle of the store - it was truly baffling from a VM & Sales point of view. They have SO many iconic firsts that other brands haven’t done & it’s just a matter of utilising it & drop capsules with weird & different products here & there for those of us who like it. Agree with the Cape! I was 4th on the list in Australia when they launched it & missed out as they cut it off at 3 clients only…😭😭😭

I actually have no problem with their current collection and designs, it's the extreme high price that stopped me from wanting to look further...

Bring the scarf bar back!!! I loved that! More colours, more options to personalize them! And does anyone remember the Warrior Bag? Legendary! Why not make a fresh version of that...in blue if you must and with the knight-theme? Also more bags with the check detail on them...does anyone remember the banner bags? Pretty leather bags with a bit of check on the sides...they were cool.

I agree! Back in 2014-15 I would go to Woodbury Commons and buy all the Prorsum runway pieces for 70% off mainly outerwear and it was so good!

You’re RIGHT. Trench, slip-ons and the other coats. They must stop playing with my little heart!!!

You are so right!!! They need to listen to you. Why have they not jumped on the denim bandwagon?

Did you ever buy that gorgeous Burberry green raincoat you tried on at Matches but has that not happened since Mathes has gone away?? It was stunning.

Lovely collection! I bought my first LV when I was 25 and I only used that bag a few times, haha. Also, love your clutch! I have an Eva clutch in the DE print and love the little chain. But I don’t want to spend so much money on it now, I have been *yutulu* buying the bag I want, it is as good as LV and is one of my favorite things. Durability

THANK YOU for calling out the golden era as the Christopher Bailey years. Everything that came from those collections was tremendously good; you said what I always thought - edgy, innovative, high quality, yet unmistakably British, and capturing their heritage identity. I too miss Prorsum so much! 😭😭. The subsequent years have made Burberry completely irrelevant, it’s sad. With most brands all going the same commercial, trend-catering direction these days, and hardly anyone with the conviction to stay true to their brand identity, it doesn’t seem probable that they will get back to the golden era level of design and prestige :(

Burberry always had a “up to 50% sale” on their official website twice a year before COVID. I always bought some pieces back then.

Yeah I was kind of put off by their bags..Especially the ones that have bottom that look like a bum. 😅🤷🏻♀️

The Burberry Trenchcoat was so popular that it oversaturated the market and demand. You can get second hand Trenchcoats for an apple and an egg.
