Then add the pandemic and stimulus checks and folks spending less during 2020 & 2021, people were buying left and right based on what was trending and popular via our KZbin and Instagram favs.

For anyone looking for an alternative to the book tote, I really recommend the Marc Jacobs The Tote Bag. The price is right, quality is great, and as a bonus it has a zip on the top which is a big benefit for me personally, it feels more secure

I find it fascinating how one weighs whether a bag is “worth” the money because I’m a decision scientist but also because I love many designer bags and have actually purchased some of the ones you mentioned. I recently purchased two Chanel classic flaps (one in caviar and one in tweed) and had thought a great deal about whether the bag was worth it and decided, after much investigation that I could not find a truly compatible bag that matched its dimensions and vibe, especially the tweed version. Now that I splurged (yes I agree the prices are exorbitant) I can honestly say I’m quite thrilled with them. They’re exactly what I expected and I do reach for them when I want that vibe. So I believe that “worth” is really relative, and assuming one can afford the price, go for what you truly love not because of brand status or “investment” but because it really makes you feel great when it suits you, your style, wardrobe and lifestyle.

I never liked the LV Multi-Pochette. If I had bought one at the time, I would have used the big pouch solo and used the small pouch as a pochette. The luxury houses lost me many price rises ago. I cannot get my head around these prices! Thank you for the video! Have an amazing day!

The good thing about micro/mini bags was that the price reflected the size, it made sense as they don't use much material. If you wanted to jump on a trend or you enjoy smaller bags then you would buy a few because it was at an attainable price and was worth it. However the prices of these tiny bags are so expensive now, it's just not worth it. I can't jump on new mini bag trends with other brands anymore because i cant justify the cost!

I agree about valuing the brand. I won’t pay a premium for bags from non-heritage designer houses that do not have a history of bags. Jimmy Choo is a prime example. But, there are so many other brands like that who are newer their core business is shoes or jewelry, etc., but seem to think they can charge LV, Bottega, Celine prices

First of all let me say how much we appreciate you for educating us and having these realistic talks about luxury as much as we love it. My thoughts on Hermès versus Chanel is that you are right even though Hermes has their games that they play the fact is you’re still getting quality with each purchase. I love Chanel don’t get me wrong I buy their ready-to-wear I also buy their fashion jewelry but I have one Chanel classic flap and that as far as quality is one purchase I regret. So then boosting the price without the quality we all know it’s ridiculous. And the trendy bags becoming more and more expensive I think Brands are doing it because people are still buying them… Nothing changes until we do with our purchasing decisions

My biggest issue is with the tiny/micro bags. I cannot get passed the enormous price tag for such a small bag. All of the major luxury brands increased their prices but only a few have managed to stay reasonable. It's heartbreaking, really. I've had my eye on Dior and Chanel for a while and now, for me, the bags seem out of reach.

I own the black padded casette with chain bag and it never fails to get complements whenever i take her out. Those little Dior bags are such a temptation but i would rather buy chanel for that price. It’s a good thing i bought the book tote when it was “more afoordable” coz right now, i can’t justify paying that price for a canvas bag which doesnt even have a closure. Great video and love your original insights. I love collecting preloved mint condition bags from 2015 - 2018 era after having a few years to consider if the design ages well. This year I've added to my collection the LV Saint Michel in black and Chanel Lovely Day small flap in pink 💗These styles look classic to me, quality is still great and got them way under retail. I love them so much and figured I can still have the boutique experience getting shoes/RTW from the boutiques. New or preloved these bags are not necessities and we should do whatever makes us happy 😃

Cassie!!! First, love your videos+opinions...and have shared them with friends! Oooh I wish this video was posted a few days earlier, as I just made an impromptu Fendi purchase, while on vacation! I loved the comment "when Chanel is cheaper, we got a problem". I agree with many of your points in this post, and I'll have to remember your price points, as I think it's a good gauge, when shopping for luxury bags. Last year, I had commented on the LV coussin PM and Chanel flap purchases, and am now questioning my own sanity :D I also can't believe you got a Birkin for so low! I'll have to take another look at Hermes. With all the price increases happening, I feel a sense of urgency to look seriously in 2022 for anything that I love. I looked at that Dior book tote and a Lady Dior too...will think twice now about it. Agree with Jimmy Choo analysis...I personally consider them a "shoe" brand and would think twice about paying that amount for a bag, let alone actually purchasing one from that brand. What are your thoughts on the Fendi Peekaboo Bar experience and purchase price points (future video idea)? I had stepped into Fendi at Caesar Forum Shops in Las Vegas looking for one bag (medium Peekaboo in navy blue leather with the velvet interior wave pattern released SS22), only to walk away with an unplanned customized peekaboo in blue denim with yellow leather trim and logo $4200 USD (super cute), silver handle $1100 USD, and a defender (bag cover concept to give another look) $1590 USD to go with it in gold/silver/pewter Fs all over a black background. In hindsight now, I wish reason was with me, as I think back to the price spent on this purchase compared to other brands and bags that I've had my eye on for a few years. WTH was I thinking?!? But I do love what I picked out and it's something I can use every day, as opposed to the Chanel flap I got in Nov 2021. By the way, that green Bottega is SOOO you! My takeaway here is to buy the bag if you like it as soon as it’s released. I would’ve bought the MPA with its original price but it a while before I developed a liking to it. The problem with this though is sometimes the brands make improves by the 2nd or 3rd iteration of the bag. So it’s kind of hard to judge whether to buy immediately or wait.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I was browsing the Cartier website (as one does lol) and I saw the price point of their new bags - their evening bag/WoC is the same price as a Chanel WoC!! I love my Cartier jewelry but I don’t consider them a bag/slg brand. Also, theor new bags have a C clasp that‘s just a rip off of the Chloe C from a few seasons ago - who signed off on this?? I wonder if a couple of yrs from now, we‘ll be so desensitized from all the increases that €3000 will be the new €2000 and €2000 will be considered "entry level". At this point I‘m honestly a little over it. It’s disappointing to fall in love with an item and then when you‘re ready to buy it a few months later it‘s €300 more. In this price segment, I just feel ripped off. I bought a Neverfull in October 2020 and it‘s €400 more now? The bag is coated canvas, it was already overpriced.

Bottega's price increases really bother me as well because MOST of their collection is "trend" pieces. I think the pouch and Jodie will have longevity but they don't have the cache that similarly priced brands like Dior and Fendi/Chanel have. They're kidding themselves. As I've seen comments about resale market ... curious on others' experience? As a buyer, I have a fearful mindset of it, since I don't want to pay the money only to get something not genuine. Should I be more at ease and open to it? Are there sites more trustworthy than others, as I may be a future potential seller of a few bags too.

I feel like the recent massive price hikes has caused normal people to lose “value” in the bags. When you aren’t really wealthy and can only purchase a couple of big items a year these price increases make it harder to see value in the bag when you’re not getting anything “extra”. Not better quality. Not better customer experience. I agree the book tote is outrageous. And the classic flap is never going to be a birkin. I think Bottega Veneta is severely underrated. And I love it even more bc of that. Phoebe philo era Celine as well. Good quality. Great experiences. Understated but very fashion forward and chic. Same with Fendi.

Totally agree about Dior. I recently bought the small Lady Dior and couldn’t believe how much the minis cost. I will say that I bought the LV Coussin PM after the recent price increase. I agree that it’s a ridiculous price but it’s a versatile bag and the leather is beautiful so I bought it despite the price.

I love my LV multi pochette and I'm so grateful to have purchased when I did and I do wear it how it's supposed to and don't disassemble. I do agree with the current price I wouldn't purchase it now.

I’ve only seen a couple of pieces - generally terry cloth can be quite delicate so if you’re worried about investment value I wouldn’t go for that 💖💖

The Versace are so underrated but I like the gucci ones too they’re very comfy! I would try to get a pair with a slightly different design (e.g with the bees or snake) 🙈

i bought the easy pouch on strap 5 days ago and im returning it tomorrow. I lost my interest in it and I can only fit my key pouch, phone, keys and a mini purfume thing. I paid $1700 and dont want to be so-so about that purchase.
