Hi Roberta, I just purchased a singer 360k memo matic. I seemed to have grasped the casting on, thank you. I however can not manage to keep knitting. Like when you cast on with the brushed up the yarn runs along. This is happening once we change over to the knitting. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advanced. Kimberley

I would first suspect the sponge bar needs replacing, most the time a used machine, even from a dealer can have parts missing or not new. I remember once I had a new to me machine, was told the sponge bar was new, but only on the ends, when I finally pulled it out, all but the ends were flat as a pancake. If you have replaced it, email me at hobbyknitter at gmail dot com

Sorry for the delay, I only get here maybe a couple times a month, then I have to play catch up with the many comments. Looking at those 2 machines, it would look like they will. But a safe way to try it, is to take the sinker plate off just to see what happens, put the other carriage on and pull out a few needles, push the carriage across and see if it works. if not and it stops, then take it off and the answer would be no.

Really enjoy this video, thank you. I do get a bit lost from about 4 mins onwards - I have a singer 360 and in using the method described in the manual (to knit the first three stitches) my knitting does not complete a row. So I think I need to manually e-wrap the cast on and knit the first stitches from there. Is that right?! (Beginner millennial)

I will get to look at this better in a bit, but if you were to email me at hobbyknitter@gmail.com, at least I would have it there, I do tend to do more email, than look at the comments here.

I need help. Got a great singer 700, used 2x but in great shape. Replaced needles, oiled it, new sponge bar, tried different yarns, tensions. I can't get it to knit. reliably. It skips, leaving a trail if unworked stitches and yarn in different areas.havent been able to use it reliably. Is it a carriage or bed issue?
@RobertaRoseMeads3 жыл бұрын
Did you clean and lube the carriage as I think that is the problem. The yarn would be a 3ply to a DK yarn but one can use EON with a #4 yarn at times, all depends on the brand yarn. If needed, email me at hobbyknitter at gmail dot com. I may be better help that way.

Hi, I have a brothers ribber machine, it worked well for quite a while with the main bed, but now I can barely knit a row without the main bed dropping stitches! I need help
@RobertaRoseMeads3 жыл бұрын
So first would be the sponge or plastic bar in the ribber. If a sponge bar, they deteriorate every day, little by little until it no longer works. Next is maybe the ribber moved a bit out so both beds are not aligned well. There are many things that can or did happen, but hard to say. To better help you with this, please email me at hobbyknitter at gmail dot com, or find me on Messenger and send a message that way.

I have a problem with cast on and a stockinnete knitting. My machine knits fine only where the weights are (on edges), but forms loops on the needles where are no weights. Is it a problem of my sinker plate? How to fix it without using a cast on comb? Thank you.
@RobertaRoseMeads7 жыл бұрын
I found more on the brother machines that when it loops on either side of the fabric, it is the carriage needs cleaning. Also it can be the brushes need replacing as they can grab the yarn and not let the machine knit it properly. Something else you can do is after knitting a row, put the needles out to HP and knit the next row until you can get weights on the ends. I do prefer to put a cast on comb and luckily I can borrow from my brother machines to use on my singer type machines. It seems as though the brother machines do need to have the comb on unless you put your weaving brushes down or put the needles out to HP. Berda

Replaced the sponge bar. Now it knits great. Sorry for such a beginner problem. :)

Sorry that I forgot to mention that but glad you found that out. A bad sponge bar is the culprit more times than anything else. No worries of having a beginner problem, even us that have been machine knitting for many years will have problems also, just not as much as a beginner. Berea
