I work construction. 55 hrs. per week, 50 weeks a year. Tried alotta different brands aNd I gotta say, this is the best boot I've found in 20 years of this shit. My first pair I got a year and 4 months outta them. So I just recently bought another pair. For the price, this IS the best bang for your buck. Supper durable, just slip one of those inserts inside with the air bubble in em and you're good to go. And in 2-3 WEEKS when they're broke in they're comfortable. Stiff at first, but not uncomfortable. And the first ones I still have and I can easily get another 3 months or so outta them. That's my 2 cnt.

Best boot i have owned. I wear every day 9+ hours on a concrete warehouse floor. I am in my 3rd pair, getting 2 solid years of use! Unbelievable quality and durability... Total armored tanks ready for intense battle. The leather is top notch and the tread is tuff and deep, making for long tread wear life. I replace the insoles with thorogood's and are as comfy as a pair of walking shoes. I ordered two extra pairs just because i got paranoid they would stop making them of this quality. I have owned them all from red wings(overpriced average quality at best) to timberlands(nothing special) and found the cats quality to price is unmatched. Just great boots

I have a pair of this I bought 15 years ago, I bought them for the look, as a urban, camping and bad weather shoe. The sole in my version is made of two parts, the center of it being clear color rubber, it's only now 15 later that the glue in that piece failed and moves around in place, it just needs to be re soled. Other than that the shoe is in top condition. Unf*ing believable build quality.

I have bought another pair from my previous concrete work. the concrete work trashed my pair but I still bought another pair because they are so cheap (not cheaply made, just price), and they are so comfortable. I start my new job working scaffolding confident I made the right choice in boots.

Had a pair for my first work boots that i wore everyday for about two years at a book warehouse job. I never oiled them, never dried them out, took them backpacking and hunting in the mud...helped out on a horse ranch for 18 months...i mean i trashed these boots but they didnt give out. I finally got rid of them because the soles were smooth and i didnt know you could resole them. It wasnt until my next pair of boots (doc martens) died in 6 months that i realized what i had. Im looking for another pair of work boots, though now im looking for union made in america.

I've gone through about 3 pairs of the 2nd Shift, they are really that durable and reliable. I tried the 8-eyelet Hauler but made the mistake of storing them in the storeroom for way too long (I live in a humid tropical climate) and the sole cracked open within 2 months. I just recently ordered the Mobilize which has alloy toe-caps instead of steel just to give it a try (would have gotten the 2nd Shift if I had not seen the Mobilize). I work in an office but I love Cats for their ruggedness and durability and despite them not being officially water-proof they have been keeping my feet dry when I tread through puddles during a rainstorm.

I just talked about these in your Red Wing Iron Ranger video comment section. I didn't see you reviewed them until just now. I've owned and worn these 2nd Shift CAT's in black since 2005 as Harley riding boots and beater work boots as a licensed HVAC technician. They hold up extremely well and I am only on my second pair of them. These are primarily used when I have to do something particularly nasty that I don't want to use and wreck my good work boots for. They are by far the best $80 - $100ish pair of boots you can buy. They do need oiled or mink oiled up first though because they come extremely dry from the factory. Obenauf's leather boot oil and Red Wing mink oil paste works best. If you use the mink oil paste sweat it in with a hair dryer so it is completely absorbed before you buff them out with a horsehair brush. The best insole I have found for this boot is the Red Wing Red Bed insole. I pay $15.99 for those at local farm supply and working people stores. They make the boot extremely comfortable once it is broken in.

Currently wearing my 2nd pair that I bought in June 2017. The welt is cracked in spots but everything else is holding up great. Clean them and condition with mink oil every month or so. I just got a pair of Danner Quarry's I need to break in still, but I'll continue wearing these Cats to do yard work and what not once I switch over to the Danners.

Expensive fuck me I’ve always spent $100 on timberlands just for them to turn to shit a year later and I’m 13 so recently I got into adult sizes and that’s $200 so I stopped buying timberlands and got a pair of combat boots so this seems amazing for $80

I’m a mechanic by trade and bought a pair of union made Thorogood boots with in a month it became very obvious I bought the wrong type boot. I keep the Thorogoods oiled up and don’t use them for work. I bought a pair of Thorogood V series which is much more fitting for my work but I think I am going to replace them with a pair of Catapillar second shifts. For the price, they are cheap enough for a gamble. I just need a rugged no frills boot.

I bought a caterpillar second shift work boot about a year ago where it every day to work I bought it because it was slip resistant and black I needed it cuz I work in a restaurant and I had to have slip resistant shoes I went through about two pairs of slip resistant shoes from Walmart and I just couldn't take it anymore I bet the bullet I spent 90 bucks on the caterpillar the only thing I noticed was that there was some wear on heel and about the middle of the foot it started become afraid there but I wear these 10 hours a day 5 to 6 days a week and they hold up I recently just got a new job I upgraded to a pair of Danner track welts I had them for about 6 hours now

Cat always seemed like a generic boot to me. I've always been in the $200-300 range work boots Chippewa, Ariat,Danner etc. But my last pair of boots I had 1 goal and that was comfort. I ended up buying a pair of Cat Convex Mid the local Vanderbilts had them for $119.99 + tax. I gotta say their new sole is very good at absorbing shock & making it a little easier to be on my feet 12-14hrs a day. The best pair of boots I've ever had? No, but like I said just had comfort in mind. But the Convex does seem to be a little better made than what someone would expect if the considered Cat a "Generic" boot.

My first pair of work boots was a basic soft toe Winston caterpillar work boot I no longer have them unfortunately but they never ever let me down never had any stitching blow out and the sole always stayed at a decent amount of tread although I do now prefer steel toe which I feel truly doesn’t add to much weight and has definitely saved me more times than I can count I recently decided to give the Alaska 2.0s a shot as I had a friend that had the original Alaska’s and still has them almost 4 years later so I’m gonna see how long they last me

I have a similar pair i love that i bought at Burlington this time last year. Could probaly get nother year out of them, but the right toe is wearing out. Original insoles sucked horribly. But i buy a decent set of cheaper almost store brand insoles at walmart for most of my boots these days that last about six months per pair. I wear the crap out of my boots anywear from 8 to 16 hours a day. So if these are pretty much the same as i have I'd buy 2 pair.

I wear a 7.5 in boots. Should I get that true size since this gives you a bit of room for an aftermarket insole?
@propklep
@propklep 5 жыл бұрын
That is a big drawback with gleued soles. After standing straight on the shelf for a period of time, the gleu hardens out causing the sole braking loose from the shoe when activated for all day use suddenly. like the Blackstone series, Good year welt and stitched soles. Now i dont know what the process means for Good Year welded soles, but a stitch used around gives me a safer feeling.

Hey man just wondering are the sizes same as Dr. Martens made in England sizes? Reason for this question is that I realized those Dr. Martens that are made in Thailand vs those made in England and China are a size different. Eg. made in England UK9 = made in Thailand UK10. Just I’m just wondering if I’m buying a pair of Caterpillars online, which size should I choose? A size lower or just the standard size
