"Little bit of Butter" Shirt (limited quantity!), and new Steelhead T-Shirts! fishermanslife...
Final day in Crescent City fishing the Smith River! Went on a guided trip on the drift boat down the river. The goal was to catch a salmon with roe to try raw and cooked. Took us three days of fishing to finally have a good shot at landing one. Best times for Salmon on the Smith are usually Oct, Nov, and Dec on a 9-12 foot river. Best times for Steelhead are Jan - March peaking in February normally in case you want to make a trip up!
Day 1: • Catch n Cook Dungeness...
Day 2: • EPIC Day of Pier Crabb...

I worked at a fish plant and we made salmon roe for export to Japan. We would removed the membrane and soak it in a special soy sauce that we got from Japan. I'm telling you man it was fucking unbelievably good. So try soy sauce next time.

I think what most people do to cook salmon roe is to batter it and then put flour or bread crumbs on them and deep fry them. I've never seen anyone really cook them like you did, but anything really goes when cooking food. This is how we have so many excellent types of dishes from all around the world. Cooking is an art form and the artist is able to do what they want with what they have. Thanks again for the videos and info you share. God bless bro.

You can turn the eggs into ikura. I have made ikura out of Chinook, Chum, Coho and pink salmon eggs (from fish we caught) by weight besides Chinook and Coho the eggs are worth more then the meat. Really simple Japanese ikura recipe is to remove the eggs from the membrane (hot water method or strainer.... lots of videos on youtube) and then cure it in a mixture of dashi, soy, mirin, sake, sugar and salt. If you want to cure more of a caviar way for like having with cheese and crackers you can cure in dashi, white wine, salt and a just a little bit of soy. Salmon eggs are amazing on a bowl of sushi rice with other raw fish. Try it out

Dude, that's red caviar you had right there. Incredibly delicious with bread and butter, very expensive to buy as well. I'll give you a recipe for future reference. Everything is measured in cups. First, make brine in these proportions: 5:2:1, Water, Salt, Roe. Make sure the salt is dissolved in the water. Then, put that roe sack in there and let it soak for 15 minutes. The roe and the membrane will harden and will be easier to separate. After that, separate the membrane by hand, throw it out. Next, cover you loose roe in brine with a lid and put it in a fridge for up to an hour. After you take it out some membrane will be floating on top, sift it with a mesh strainer. Strain everything to another container. Boom, rad caviar!

Norwegian hobby fisherman chiming in on Salmon Roe preparation here. I use a simple old recipe from my dad which produces fantastic roe. Remove all the membranes then place it in a sieve and rinse under cold water until you see the spill water is crystal clear. Put it all in a big mixing bowl with 50 grams of salt and a tablespoon of sugar per 1kg of roe and mix gently until combined. Cover with a lid or cling wrap and put it in the fridge or a cold place for 2-3 hours before using it. It will keep fresh in the fridge in air tight containers for a few days or you can freeze it to keep it longer.

They get there Asian traits from the migration across the ice bridge in an ice age from Asia to North America. The people who came from Asia mixed with the people who were already in North America. Then in the 1400s the Spanish came and mixed with the people there who had already developed Asian traits. So that's why you can see Asian traits in some Hispanics. My wife is Japanese and there is a recipe for the salmon eggs, roe or ikura in Japanese. You remove the nerves with your hands in lukewarm water and rinse 5 or 6 times to remove everything that is not eggs, which are now individually free and then you marinate them for at least 4 hours into sake and soy sauce as the base recipe.

So.... By the way.... You're not suppose to eat Salmon Roe Raw... There is a preparation for them that gets rid of that fishy taste... You're suppose to wash all the membrane off ( like you did ) And then brine it so that it'll turn from cloudy color to clear, once that's done. It should be much more edible.

@nuwalk1752
@nuwalk1752 6 жыл бұрын
Edd Green I think that's used to describe the common taste found in all fish, instead of when a fish is cooked and has it's own specific taste. Like how you can tell the difference in taste between salmon and trout, but if cooked (I wanna say incorrectly but I'm not sure what factors into getting rid of the fishy taste) they both just taste "fishy".

1 Fresh Skein with Roe 1 gallon Hot water For rinsing Salt Brine 1/2 cup Salt 3 cups cold water Equipment Large Bowl Large holed sieve/colander Glass Jar (for storage) Instructions Set a large bowl in the sink, fill it with warm water and set a colander or sieve into it. Make one tear along 1 skein lengthwise exposing the roe inside. Place the skein inside the colander and allow the warmth of the water help shrink the outside membrane of the skein and free up some of the fish eggs. The roe might become opaque in color, do not worry this is ok. Gently, using your fingers continue freeing up more roe from the sack. When all of it is out, raise the sieve with the fish eggs up and down, rinsing out the impurities. Then pick out the rest of them by hand. You can drain the water and add more clean water to further clean out the roe. Remove the sieve with the roe to a clean dry bowl. Meanwhile make the brine: in a bowl that would fit the sieve inside stir 3 cups water and 1/2 cup kosher salt until the salt is dissolved. Lower the sieve with the cleansed roe into the brine. Allow to sit for several minutes or until it is salted to your liking. I kept the roe in the brine for about 3 minutes. Raise the sieve from the brine and transfer the salmon caviar to a paper towel to absorb extra liquid. Then, transfer to a glass jar and refrigerate

*Liked the way the bait stayed on hook **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s used them for rainbow trout at Alto Lake, NM. Three of us were fishing and caught our limit of 5 trout every day in less than an hour. Great stuff.*

You should totally try handline fishing! It’s kind of like poke pole but you get such a better fight and feel for the fish. Also you only need a few cheap items: a old bottle or stick, line, a weight, and a hook! I’ve caught tons of surf perch on a simple rig like that

Hello my friend, lived in Milwaukee WI. for years, before moving out to Az. When in Mllw. fished off the jetty walls for many years by Jones Island. Caught a lot of coho, browns, chinook, rainbows. Tried the roe several times always liked it. Only fried though!!!!!

The Grasseater lol. Nope. My Avet Lx with 80lb braid on a Shimano Trevala does not go brraap... braaap... brraap. It goes zzzzzzzz. Like my sound effects? Lol. My poles never jerk up. It's a constant weight with line consistently being released. Not in spurts. So yeah... his equipment is either not cared for or Abu sucks. I'd say both.

Next time you eat salmon roe I'd suggest boiling it till they are half cooked and serving them over rice. That is my favorite way to eat them. Also you can't make a salmon chowder and add in some eggs as well. It's fantastic.
