Catch n Cook FLAG Yellowtail - Fishing in Key Largo

An amazing day resulting in a nice cooler full of fish. With yellowtail on our mind this catch and cook video starts with a snorkel session in John Pennekamp.

In this video:
Fishing in Key Largo is quickly becoming part of my blood. I love to catch and cook these fish, we start this fishing trip by snorkeling at the christ of abyss statue in the john pennekamp coral reef state park located in Key Largo. It's the underwater jesus. It's an awesome sight. The underwater Jesus himself bless used to catch fish today!
Time to put up the dive flag and snorkel a bit! We saw many fish including mutton snapper, grouper and our targeted species the yellowtail.
After seeing so many fish we were excited and ready to catch some! We run out to the reefs edge off key largo florida and start running along the reef edge. I use my fish finder (sonar) to look for fish at the bottom.
After about 20 minutes I mark some serious balls of flag yellowtail and know it's time to start fishing! We anchor about 100 yards up current of where I marked all the yellowtail snapper. The key is to chum a lot. I even brought oats to chum this time. Yellowtail snapper love oats!
We quickly started catching the fish and it was game on! Flag yellowtail everywhere! This will 100% be a catch and cook video. We fill our coolers and run back home with a beautiful sunset.
At home we fillet the snapper and the girls blacken some of the fillets and we also fry some of the fillets. The fish turned out amazing and I can't wait to get back out on the water! I just love fishing in key largo. Florida is awesome!

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

I can tell this is an older video because of the condition of the bottom and the health of the Sponges, Gorgonians, and Corals Disespectful divers have worn it all out. Take a look and compare your vids. No where near that good of shape now. Just a shame.

That's one of the reasons I moved to Cudjoe Key. Had an epic day this past weekend- a ballyhoo plug caught a fat 20 lb. Black grouper followed by a 7 lb. football (blackfin tuna at the edge of the reef. Then, to top it off, a limit of 'tails- all over 18". The 'tails out of American Shoal seem to run a little larger, especially near the Maryland Hump. They are some of the best fish for tacos, though!

Good little meat run. Try some free lining glass minnows but cast them out past the chum slick. Big flags tend to be in the back. Pan fried in corn meal is my fav!

Good sir. Mix salt and egg whites with dried herbs until it becomes a paste jut like concrete. Remove guts from trigger fish and package the fish in that salt paste and oven it at 200 for about 20-30 mins. Once done cut around it and just lift the upper half off. I promise you thats how you will be eating trigger fish every time. Hehe

I've been fishing with her 5+ years so she knows how the drag works. If she didn't want it tighter after I told her to tighten it the first time then so be it. Some people tighten the drag way too much which causes the line to break or the hook to rip out.
