Catching multiple species on the Indian River using jigs and Shrimp

Headed out on the Indian River in Jensen Beach FL fishing with my Son. The Treasure Coast offers some of the most diverse fishing in the world. Our goal was catching multiple species using jigs and Shrimp. We used 1/8 oz pink and chartreuse jig heads from T&A Tackle with whole live Shrimp, and pieces of fresh Shrimp. We fished channel markers, crab buoys, and power lines. The jigs are fished extremely slow on the bottom. We caught a total of eight different species including Mutton Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Sheepshead, and Croaker. This is some of the easiest fishing you can do with your kids for an exciting day of fishing.

Just have to know how to avoid those Cats. Never let your bait just sit. Small Snapper around docks, pilings, and bridges is a great way to get them hooked.

Our fished by your son, I know the feeling. Someday I might come down there and try the fishing. I even thought of getting a place there just don’t know if I want lake or ocean fishing. Im used to salmon trout and pike fishing.

The Channel by S Cswy is also a really good spot to check out and then out the inlet. Turn on the depth finder and start looking for christmas tree returns. Have to catch through a bunch of short muttons but stuff for the table is there. Dead shrimp on a fish finder rig has saved many a day of fishing for me.

I’ve heard those rocks around the marina are solid. Couple more weeks and the Sheep’s will be thick

Don't pass up along the channel on the east side in front of The Smithsonian Dock either and like I said all the way out the inlet especially on the south side. I just came in from fishing... 26 1/2" Red off one of the docks on the west side that has an oyster bed right next to it. Bait is still all over the place. I was out the day before and was into a mess of Snook to 26" just south of the power lines off the docks. Trick seems to be throwing those big saltwater assassins (thanks to Jason for tuning me onto those) and finding the water that isn't pea soup. I'm catching 80% of the fish either right at the wave breaks on shore or within the first 10 feet. These tides being way up has pushed them up.
