Big congrats all around. Also, Senior is just the coolest guy. One hand in his pocket, a tool in the other, and things just come around. Great camera angles and editing. Really interesting to see how it comes together.

Ah, I've been waiting 3 years for this day :D. Not going to lie, the old anxiety was high watching this until she popped off. BEST 1113 EPISODE EVER!!! God, I need a drink now, and I was only watching. You must feel amazing now that that first (and second) start are under your belt. Congratulations so you and Sr, you've done some amazing work bringing this old lady back to life. You've earned a nice cold Mountain Dew sir!

100 proof Everclear Mountain Dew cocktail ? When I was temp stationed down at Coast Guard Airstation Mobile Alabama I got introduced to that one of my fellow Aviation Machinist Mate buds in the helo shop at a shrimp fry party his Dad thru to celebrate getting his shrimp trawler back in the water after a major rebuild. I thought I'd never survive the hangover from that one. So much fun while the party is ragin' but thank God we had the next day off from flight training duties with Cadet Aviation candidates. I couldn't have done a preflight or preflight inspection to save my soul. The shop CPO was in even worse in the hangover department I heard. They had a great crew down there summer of '78 and '79. I'd never heard of a place where you could buy beer by the gallon jug legally.

SQUATCH!!! I kept my promise! On my way home from work I got my favorite beer and as soon as that diesel roared to life I cracked one open. I am so very proud of you and you wouldn’t even believe how I was yelling in excitement when it started and told all my kids to come in and see. What an incredible achievement and I aspire to be as great of a mechanic as you and your father are. I turn wrenches everyday and I still learn so much from you and your dad. I’m looking forward to many more videos from you gents. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Using a rope to start a pony engine on a caterpillar diesel engine in the year 2022? Where did I miss the boat? Rebuilding that pony engine is far more expensive than buying an electric starter an retrofitting that old diesel engine, had to take an old man to get it going, age and treasury always overcome youth and skills, well done, please don't forget to paint it with the right yellow caterpillar color, remain me my younger years when I used to play with them. After all this congratulations to you guys you have done a superb job, excellent.

I pulled hand cranks on D8 2U10,000, D8 36A and starter cord on log loader in WA State during the early 1970's! After that, pulled hand crank on a D8 1R in the Alaska Range...! Years later worked for NC Machinery in Anchorage and few knew how to start a pony motor Cat or where the "Thermoids" are located on the master clutch...! It was knuckle-breaking work, but satisfying -- I still miss the smell of unburned diesel on a cold day...! Robert Hammond

To hear the voice of a long silenced machine that had been rebuilt is the closest thing a mechanic does to having a newborn child cry the first time. I re-lived the anxiety of that first successful fire up of my D311 in my 212 grader that I'm sure you felt when it was still bleeding the air out of the system when it wouldn't quite start. Props to you and Senior, your both did a wonderful job on the mechanical restoration of that powerplant. #5J1113 will live another day to pull another plow!

I am amazed at the artistic flow of a lot of the parts on these cats. Maybe it is the mechanical nature of some parts to need flowing curves but others seem to be put there for artistic value. Some people spent a lot of time at a drawing board and maybe a little art crept in there.

I've only overhauled a few engines in my time and nothing like as big as this but I well remember even decades later getting one hell of a kick out of doing it when they started up for the first time.
