In the similar rate fight on the deck; try slowly giving away angles and slowly building airspeed to significantly above corner. Your bandit will march around the circle thinking he's winning. Just before he pulls his nose on, tighten down and build a square corner. Then at the right moment level the wings and go full vertical. He won't be able to follow. Roll over the top, slot into his 6 and shoot...
@paulbrooks43952 жыл бұрын
Well executed overall, a few normal mistakes, but these are my favorite fights to be in, where winning comes down to the slightest and luckiest moments. With an equal opponent, most of the time the fights end in a one circle.

This has nothing to do with the tactics of this fight, but I am now incredibly curious to know what the effects of an ejection would be on a pilot turned around in his seat looking to his 6 o’clock. At 15:16, when GS ejects, he’s looking back over his shoulder and my first thought was, “There’s a broken neck.” Anyway, great fight as always GS! Props to your adversary as well.

I believe the seat is supposed to cinch down the harness (or should), forcing you into the correct posture before launching.
@jpteknoman2 жыл бұрын
@@timmer919 it does but it doesn't do anything for the head, this is why the ejection handle is always put in a location that requires the pilot to assume the correct head position in order to pull it. in the case of the tomcat its the 2 black/yellow bars above the pilot's head. its not easy to grab and pull them while looking back but very easy if sitting straight.

It would be awesome if you could do a tutorial showing, the joystick, rudder and thrust axis! Also I'm so used to using a twist rudder I find the rudder pedals difficult, my mind reverses them like I'm reversing the axis (like I'm still rotating to anti clockwise to go left i.e pushing the right pedal to yaw left), so my mind is using the pedals that way). Should I re-learn or just embrace my way? (I'm not going to be flying a real plane anytime soon, or ever!).
@Fishlord1362 жыл бұрын
It’s a lot easier and more precise to use pedals, you just gotta unlearn your mistakes
@dsdy12052 жыл бұрын
I think you should relearn, if for no other reason than you'll be speaking the same language when discussing flight control as everyone else. It can be helpful to think of it as stepping on the side of the nose that you want the nose to go, instead of rotating the whole plane in the yaw axis

Hey GS, are you an ex-fighter pilot, or have you just devoted so much effort into DCS to be at this level? You are very proficient, and knowledgeable about the various aspects of air combat. You also are able to do alot just as second nature, without having to think about HOW to do something. You can just focus on actually doing what you want and thinking about your opponents next moves. It makes me wonder if you already had much of this knowledge before playing, and just had to learn the controls. If not how many hours of grinding and playing did it take for you to become this good?

The American F-14D was more advanced, also the Americans have higher skilled maintenance crews and tighter standards. Not to mention actually had access to spare parts. Iran's F-14's are probably below 10% combat readiness since the parts embargo. Not that it matters, the US uses much newer and superior aircraft now since the F-14 got retired.

So if your locked in a rate fight on the deck and you are slowly loosing the rate fight, the only thing you could do would be to try to offset but manage energy so you can tighten down if need be to deny the shot. So it sounds like the maximum rate of turn and best sustainable rate of turn are two different things. Presumably the sustainable rate of turn is determined by speed/altitude/weight, and a tighter turn may be had at the cost of bleeding off speed, so that the maximum rate of turn cannot be sustained. Thus the desire for lots of engine thrust to quickly regain lost speed in a rate fight and/or increase the best sustainable rate. The strategy in a rate fight would then be to keep best sustainable rate and hope that your opponent will do things that decrease his speed, then when range closes enough you go to maximum rate of turn and "pull him into the HUD" for a gun kill. Am I close?

hey GS! Could you please explain what "Lift vector placement" is?
@blackshields8092 жыл бұрын
Lift vector is basically the line pointing straight up out of the top of your aircraft. It indicates the direction and force of the lift generated by your control surfaces (with air speed). When you are flying perfectly level, it is 180 degrees from the gravity vector that is pointing straight out of the bottom of your aircraft. When these two vectors are equal in force, you have level and steady flight. Remember that lift vector specifically is relative to your aircraft, so for example if you invert, both lift and gravity vectors describing the force on your A/C are now pointing down together. So, when you place that on a bandit's high six and keep it there while pulling aft on the stick, you are more or less driving towards that spot with the hope that he either won't or cannot due to low energy do the same to you in a rolling scissors. That should shoot him out in front of you and give you the angle to slot in behind him.
