Fascinating video clip which led me to have a strong sense of gratitude toward God for being catholic.Worldwide they’re about 4000 religious belief systems. And I along with many others are a part of the ONLY church that Christ founded/ commissioned while He walked on this earth.What a privilege! 🎉 🕯️👍🏼🕯️

Well you have to understand who Peterson is talking to, primarily, and it's not people who already believe. he is talking to those of us who are struggling with belief and need to find an open door in our own perception to walk toward the light. So many have dropped all religious context and are often outright repulsed by it. When we speak in religious language to these people, these are roadblocks to them even taking the first step. I don't know that there's really a difference between what the Bishop is saying and what Peterson is saying, it's mainly the language they are using, and there is a reason for that. I mean, WE do HAVE to do something - to focus on what we need to do is not an error, but a temporary focus. The perspective is hey, all this stuff isn't really outlandish, it all DOES make a kind of sense, and why wouldn't it? It's a tack to take to minimize or remove peoples' roadblocks. As people walk the path, the rest will come into focus. If people are going to stay wandering in the areas off the path and have mental blocks to even walking toward the path in the first place, they remain lost.

What Peterson has stumbled upon is significant. It is concrete, and while it doesn't necessarily involve true faith, it certainly points to the existence of God. It is an intermediary block between knowledge and faith that can and will help MANY bridge the gap. I know, for it happened to me. What Peterson points out are the very concrete handprints of the will of God, and seeing them will help one bring down the mental barriers they have constructed against Him.

Perhaps I missing something, but I did NOT see Bishop Barron confronting intellectuals on prayer. in this video It would be ironic to see such a thing because Barron's took his PhD in French in Paris, France and is an intellectual himself. The notion that being intellectual is somehow a hindrance to seeking, and then relating, to God is a very tenuous supposition when one remembers that the great pioneers of science were the leading intellectuals of their day and committed Christians. St. Pope John Paul II's 'Faith and Reason' is an intellectual gem that could not have been written by a non-intellectual.. I would humbly suggest that being ignorant is far bigger obstacle to having a relationship with God than being an intellectual.

I don't think he means going backwards into ignorance. But however to grow beyond where we have got to. Yes, the intellect has been a great step, but so was the stone age... what Jesus was showing us was that there is something past this... not to get stuck at the intellect, but to be able to all of that and surrender it before God (to become like children) and be enlightened. Move towards becoming fully human (all that is within) and connected in relationship to God to listen for the next right action. 🙏

You're proving his point brother. Intellectualism can make it harder to conceptiluallize prayer and to humble yourself due to over reliance on your natural and worked on intellect. So Bishop Barron is meeting the videos criteria by telling us to simplify our prayer, remove distractions and temptations, make it more natural with the flow, and marinate on the words we are saying. We also have to make sure we are aligning ourselves with God and not just pray but live a prayerful life.

@@CrimsonWar5 I'm afraid you're missing the point. The notion that being an intellectual makes "it harder to conceptiluallize(sic) prayer and to humble yourself" is just nonsense. The Catholic Church has one of the richest intellectual traditions of any group or institution in the world, and the multiplicity of spiritual charisms and traditions by which the faith is expressed and lived out gives eloquent testimony to the fact. Indeed, as the Christian fathers of modern science - scientists like Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei, Johannes Kepler, Isaac Newton Robert Boyle, Francis Bacon, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, and many others - so amply demonstrate, being intellectual makes it far easier to apprehend God which is itself a humbling experience, than the superstitions and magical thinking of the ignorant which keeps them far from apprehending the living God who is not made with human hands or subject to human manipulation. Paul himself was an intellectual as have been popes like John Paul II, Leo the Great, Pope Benedict, etc and to call such men 'un-intellectual' is tragically mistaken. Nor should one think the Christian scientists honored with the Nobel Prize are somehow anti-intellectual... Indeed the history of science is the story of how God reveals himself in everything from the coming into being of the universe itself to the phenomenal complexity and beauty of the human genome! The 'coming into being' of the universe (big bang) was discovered by a Christian scientists and the man who led the human genome project is also a Christian. Simply put, for the person who is willing to learn, science is one of the most compelling ways of perceiving and approaching God. It is simply a demonstration of ignorant thinking to suppose the Church repudiates the human intellect nd the heights to which it can soar when it apprehends God. From Irenaeus -" “the glory of God is man fully alive” to John Paul II - "Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth..." (On the Relationship between Faith and Reason) - the supposition that the Church proceeds and grows in the richness of it's theological and social teachings by being anti-intellectual is anti-Catholic to the core.. Ignorance is one of the Church's deadly enemies for it is in ignorance that heresies find rich soil in which to grow.

@Caleb-w6l Brother, you're spewing a bunch of nonsense. Get to the point of what you're trying to say within 1 - 2 sentences. This is a waste of both of our time and you are doing the same thing you're accusing Bishop Barron of doing.

The greatness of Christianity is that any person who is humble can interact in prayer with the highest good, who is the Person of God. I think Peterson, for example, must first give up intellectuality as his highest good to commune with God, and Buddists must give up egocentric self elevation to as their highest good. More everyday people must give up the pursuit of money, pleasure, ego, etc..to reach across the great device to reach out to God. We all have our other "gods"that we have to let go of in order to pray well.

The clip was quite engaging. I appreciated Bishop Barron's insights, although I found Peterson somewhat irritating in both mannerism and ideas. Nevertheless, the title accurately described the priest as "humbly confronting intellectuals in prayer." In that regard, it was indeed a success.

At 1:47 mins the Bishop is talking about the Lords prayer. He says quote: .....hallowed be they name ..... nothing else is holy .... so it is the elimination of all competition (Bishop Barrows words). The Pope in Rome is referred to in the Roman Catholic faith as: Holy Father. Is the Pope then holy or not? Or is just God holy? Is there a contradiction here?
@vecumex9466
@vecumex9466 10 күн бұрын
The Pope is referred to as Holy Father because in Catholicism he is the successor of Saint Peter, the first apostle of Jesus and thus holds a holy office as the head of the church here on earth. The Pope is the spiritual leader of the Catholic church, community not necessarily implying personal holiness. The title Holy refers to the sanctity of the position not the person himself occupying it.

@@vecumex9466 Thank you very much for your reply. My personal belief, without offending yours is: is that only God alone is holy. There cannot be such a thing as - a holy office. As Bishop Barron's himself said: "your name is holy - so it is the elimination of ALL competition" Kind Regards.

Romans 5:1 KJV Therefore being JUSTIFIED by FAITH we have PEACE with GOD through our LORD JESUS CHRIST 2 By Whom also we have access by FAITH into this GRACE wherein we stand and rejoice in hope of the GLORY of GOD. 5 And hope makes not ashamed because the LOVE of GOD is shed abroad in our hearts by the HOLY GHOST which is given unto us. 6 For when we were yet without strength in due time CHRIST died for the ungodly. 8 But GOD commends HIS LOVE toward us in that while we were yet sinners CHRIST died for us. 9 Much more then being now JUSTIFIED by HIS BLOOD, we shall be SAVED from wrath through HIM.

It’s all about denying oneself picking up their cross and following Jesus. At least when I pray I try my best to pray for others and not think about myself too much except whenever I’m thinking about my former sins and how much hurt they caused Jesus and Our Father. And as far as other religions go,they have no purpose but themselves. They are the sole purpose whereas in Christianity the purpose is God and neighbor.

Religions as family member procreation gift roles and family member need of union of identity are inseparable and qualitatively equal. The keeping of this in uncertainty of belief is God as by the Pope as Holy Father.

I wish bishop Barron would of piggy back on what this gentleman have assumed their thoughts, they also forget that God us incomprensible and we are not smart enough to even think we can reach some of his intelligence, I don’t compare to come close to his intelligence and because he is my creator I trust him fully and believe what he left to be tough in his church ⛪️ period. Those who question God are not of God.

I love Jordan Peterson usually, but he can't seem to get out of his own head about this. There are so many different takes on it at that table.This is very interesting. I am starting to think you cannot address how to pray without having the benefit of reading the Bible and understanding God's word. So some of these people are trying to clear their minds and think that's the goal. Jordan is thinking about how to get what he wants it seems. How can you tell someone to just talk to God if they don't have the most basic fundamental knowledge of his word.

@@dohope4554 they had the Torah memorized from childhood. Before that they got His words from the Priests. Before that they were praying, idolizing all over the place. Hence all the covenants God had to make. Read the Bible. Go to church. Pray. These are all good. But together they are most powerful and rewarding.
