CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Cobourg photographer assaulted by woman after she received a parking ticket

Today’s Northumberland journalist Pete Fisher was physically assaulted twice by a woman on Tuesday morning after a Cobourg bylaw enforcement officer laid a ticket on her vehicle. The woman was allegedly at a nearby homeless encampment and came back to her vehicle - parked in a fire zone. The woman has been now charged.

I've been in a similar situation. You can't take pictures blah blah blah. Someone that just wanted to be the boss. After creaming a boulevard transformer with her car, she had nothing else on her mind and obviously bigger problems. I told her to go see the cop as I was on public property and he would sort it out. That was the end of it. Always know your rights. Make sure THEY are in the wrong.

Not defending her actions, but really…. Some of us grew up with some expectation of privacy and the only people videotaping others were…unscrupulous characters. Now, (especially with the advent of AI) some of us don’t want our voice and likeness blasted all over the internet every time we leave our house. Why is there no happy medium. Can’t we go back to requiring consent to post video online, and keep the recording to (A) CCTV in businesses and high crime areas, that is viewable only by the manager, security, police), or B) actual violent crimes in progress?
