Great video. I have the same problem, after going over milfoil at the lake. I'm new to jet skis and thought I could idle through it. Now I know better. Your video gives me hope that I will be able to fix the problem, without having to take the jet ski back home from it's slip. Good view of the bottom. Funny, I never crawled under to see what it looks like down there!

2002 Yamaha FX140. Hopefully the intake grate is like yours, and will allow me to get at the debris stuck in there. Going to tackle it today.

On inspection, it looked like a family sized tossed salad was sticking out of the grate. Once pulled out, I still saw some weeds wrapped around the shaft. I removed that also, with the bent coat-hanger method. Worked great once clean. Question: will that vegetation around the shaft be blown off once the grate blockage is removed?

You have a good question about window screen....I would not install window screen or anything else for two reasons the first being that it may decrease the water flow and next it could get sucked up itself into the impeller causing damage. Try to avoid areas with debris etc

Hello, after sucking up debris on my ski it is not same even after the debris has been cleaned out. I lost 5-6 mph top speed, and there seems to be a slight hesitation on acceleration as well as an increased vibration at a certain RPM. Could this mean my impeller is messed up? I do not see any obvious damage when I peeked my head in the jet housing (nothing looks bent, broken or scored).

Hi Is your Impeller possibly bent. damaged?

It will not take much to cause a vibration loss of top end, the fact that you say that you get a vibration at a certain speed would make me think that the impeller has a slight bend in it? You really need to have a close look from the bottom I suggest take off the intake grate first then really look closely at the impeller, housing etc

I HAVE A 2012 GTI 130. MY GRATE IS CLEAN, EXCEPT FOR SOME CORROSION, SHOULD I DO SOME TYPE OF MAINTENANCE TO THIS

Your grate is Stainless Steels , maybe wire brush off any corrosion

What do you do if you sucked up mud?

I would bring the PWC into shallow water and start rocking the PWC side to side to push out the mud
