They unearthed a model of the Temple at Magdala from 73 AD, a year before its destruction in Jerusalem. This model or sculpture showed how the Temple actually looked. I was shown the model in Magdala in 2018 and noted the details of the decoration which were previously unknown.
@hurdygurdyguy12 жыл бұрын
Well, if you're talking of the Magdala Stone, it's a "symbolic" model, not an actual model we would think of today (what the 2nd Temple looked like), and even that interpretation is still in debate...another bit that's been surmised is it was originally an altar in a Roman temple and was altered with Jewish symbols in order to be used in the synagogue (I've been there a number of times... from the time it was just being developed by the National Parks Dept. to now, it's been built up quite a bit)

Carbon dating shows that basket to be 10,500 years old but the oldest coins were less than 3000 years old (king david/solomon timeline) and book fo Zechariah was written 2500 years ago. Either that basket sat there for 7000 extra years or carbon dating isn't the right tool in this case.
@Mady-lo6qb2 жыл бұрын
Especially as that basket looked to be in near pristine condition. If we consider that the weather in Israel wasn't always dry but had wetter periods and would have been subject to high humidity and cold and frosts, it is baffling how something that old could have remained without succumbing to molds and other decay unless it was sitting in a dry climate control room somewhere prior to its being lodged in the cave.

The caves have been used, and re-used many times throughout the history of ancient Erets Israel. So it's not surprizing to find things which date to different periods in one cave. For now, I'll trust the dating of the archaeologists of the Israel Dept of Antiquities -- esp when they DON'T date something to ancient Israelites/Judeans.

6:35 The floral motif on the altar’s tabletop is very specific to first century decoration and has even been found in an onyx chalice/bowl, said to have been the one from the Last Supper. It was recovered by two Knights’ Templar collectors, who had purchased the ancient monastery in Portugal. The vessel, about 10” in height and circumference, has that motif expertly chiseled into it on both sides. It was said to have been recovered shortly after Muslim conquest. The very same motif appears on ossuaries and other architecture in the first century Middle East.
