Dated my first boyfriend almost 51 years ago. We were together for 3 years, had an argument and broke up. 25 years after that, we met up again. Took it slow, but it was clear the flame still burned. We've just celebrated our 17th anniversary.

We both married other people. Can't speak for him, but I realized early on that I shouldn't have married the one I did. I never forgot about BF#1. Many years later (25), I was going to a conference near where he lived and I wrote a letter just to say "I hope you're well; I hope you're happy; I'd really like to see you'. By that time, both of us were divorced. It was the best thing I ever did to have written to him.

I don't think the romantic type of love is special. And I am started to think that the romantic type of love isn't real. I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse. Also, you are more likely to be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse. People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner. It's always easier to make amends with them than it is with a romantic partner or spouse. Romantic relationships are pointless, while platonic relationships are necessary.

Things that can't happen early in life doesn't mean they can't happen many years later. You both had to go through failed marriages 1st in order to meet again 25 years later. Call this destiny

These stories are beautiful. I truly believe that some sort of bonding happens during those teenage years that never dissipates. Then a few weeks ago out of the blue, my first love from when I was 16 contacts me. Imagine my amazement when he stirred up all those feelings from over 20 years ago in an instant. We are just friends as of right now, and getting reacquainted but we both felt the draw and intense connection. It's an incredible feeling and I will love and care about him for the rest of my life. I'm so happy to have him back in my life.

Something similar happened to me. I met my first serious boyfriend and lover in California when I was a 17 year old high school senior and Tim was a 24 year old college student from the Midwest. He went back home and we got engaged shortly after. To make a long story short, I called off the engagement and he came back to California in the spring of '89. We married a year and a half later. He died in '95 and I *still* manage to only fall in love with men that remind me of Tim. So I am content being single.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Back in the '80s I was 16 and he was 21 when he broke my heart. In 2004 I found him again and he's been my long-distance best friend through everything since. Two years ago, he told me he doesn't want to live without me and he's finally convinced we will spend the rest of our lives together. First, never be a stalker. Does this person know you love them? Have they shown interest, ever asked you out? If so, feel free to let them know you are interested, if not then never and I mean never persue a guy who has not shown interest in you. Pick your sweet self up and move on. Do not cast your pearls before swine. I met the guy who set the standard when I was 13, he was swimming in a stinky irrigation ditch. That was over 50 years ago. Cutest guy I ever met, I did not chase him. You let this guy chase you!!! That is critical.

I didn't get with my high school boyfriend or my middle school boyfriend because they're all my exes and they treated me like crap but I did find my boyfriend at a summer camp for people with disabilities we met back in 2018 and we were friends for 4 years before we even started dating and we've been together since October 23rd 2022 I'm glad I didn't get back with my high school love whoever that was cuz I had dated a few guys in high school and I dated the same dude on and off the Middle School so I'm glad that I moved on and found the one I'm with now but I must admit that I'm so happy for the couples that found each other again and got back together may you all be happy for the remainder of your lives
