I lived in a high-rise condo in Cebu City for 3 years, cost me 45K total per month....it was O.K, but I got tired of all the traffic and noise so I built a house in the province up in the mountains above Naga....2Bed/2CR......very jungle like, quiet, much cooler, ......so rural that we have no phone signal, and no mail delivery.....but Internet is faster here than Cebu City.....no rent anymore, no water bill ( we dug a well)......all I pay is electricity and food.....best move I've made so far

Good conversation about preferences My preference was Dumaguete because it's cheaper, less crowded, and if you travel to the province you will have more female offers you can handle...I've lived most of my life in Southern California near San Diego and later near Los Angeles....I don't need the big malls, the countless restaurants are 12 lane highways Finally, I don't care to befriend other foreigners...in Dumaguete I met Filipino locals whom were nicer than any other American I was friends with in the US... I'm all in for Dumaguete, I enjoyed the slower pace lifestyle...and since I'm a runner, it's much nicer to run 🏃♀️ where is not so congested... My vote...

I have been living in Cebu City for a few years now and in my opinion, Metro Cebu is best. Major malls, Hospitals, international /domestic airport, major ferry /bus terminal, many province and city girls are here in metro Cebu , beaches, resorts, major shopping/ restaurants, fast wifi, brownouts are non existent, very few police checkpoints, short distance to Cebu province to enjoy waterfalls, snorkeling, scuba diving, whale watching……..Cebu is definitely hard to beat!!!

I'm retired now in Arizona, but I used to work for one of the electric companies here. I do not know how Filipinos interpret brownout or blackout, but here in the States blackout meant NO power at all. Zip. Zero. But brownout meant you could get "a little power" that could cause a low wattage light bulb to give reduced light but not enough electricity to power an electric motor like a refrigerator or an air-conditioner. Even electric fans were "iffy." The terms were the same for either day or night.

It's funny neither of you mentioned electrical outages in Dumaguete as a negative or the reliable electricity in Cebu as a positive. I guess if your are up in Valencia and don't die without a/c for a day, it's somewhat tolerable. But if you are working online and near sea levels, that is a huge factor in my book.

I wouldn't advise Mactan unless everything you need and want to do is on the island....getting across the bridge sucks unless it's late at night. Siquijor island is beautiful and actually has a few nice restaurants, but be prepared for a monthly water taxi ride for groceries and essentials. The prices on the island are outrageous for Western style goods( example: Doritos $7 a bag). But if your desire is to have a place on the beach for a reasonable price...take a look.

Well, it seems to me, an older single guy, Cebu would be my place to habitat. I'm not looking for a girl, just want to relax and enjoy life. I eventually want to go to Iloilo, but I think there might be more expats in Cebu my age to enjoy conversations with. I want to check out Cebu's malls and do some walking. I'm not interested in driving there, since I tend to get nervous with too much traffic (crazy drivers) like you guys mentioned.

I've never been in Dumaguete, but Cebu is definitely too crowded for me. Too much traffic also. I prefer to be in the province and for me that is Ormoc, Leyte, where my ex-wife was from and where I had my house before I divorced her. Ormoc has improved a lot since I first came there 23 years ago. It now has several malls and a good choice of restaurants as you can see in my new KZbin series "Ormoc Revisited", which will start this coming Monday. Between Cebu and Dumaguete I would probably also choose Dumaguete (from what I have seen on all your channels). Cebu is just too expensive.

Transportation / housing / malls / women / street food / it all sounds like a much bigger place. I wonder why expats don't use Tuk Tuks (trikes) as their personal transportation instead of only scooters or cars ? They could transport groceries and other things much easier and are cheap + they are good transportation on demand w/o calling and waiting ? And give rides too.
@leroyybrown Жыл бұрын
On my recent trip I visited Manila (stayed BGC), Cebu City (stayed IT park) and Panglao Island, Bohol (Doljo Beach). Panglao was the best place with a tropical beach vibe. I rented a scooter and Panglao is a great place to build riding skills if you don’t ride at home. Also Panglao is strategically located near Cebu, Siquijor and Dumaguete and has its own Airport on the island with multiple flights daily to Manila. Fast ferries serve all the above mentioned locations (except Manila).

Hello. Thank you for posting. I am planning to move to Dumaguete next month. I like to split up my work day by going to the beach at lunchtime. I understand beaches in Dumaguete city proper are not that nice. I want to be close to Dumaguete city and close to a nice beach with motorbike. Where would you recommend I get an apartment where both Dumaguette city proper and nice beaches close by? North/south? San Jose/Dauin/Bacong, etc.. Thank you
@GiointhePhilippines Жыл бұрын
Bacong and Dauin are your best options.

That's a beautiful resort! Those power interruptions are really killing the tourism industry back home! Sadly the government doesn't seem to want to solve them coz it's as old as history! There's something fishy going on there w/ the government & the private sector & the international body against nuclear power plant!!

I'll probably tour around a bit when I get there, a couple weeks per city or area. I don't want to bee-line to a particular city just yet. At least that is where my thoughts are at the moment. I can always move if I don't like it.

Hu Gio. Tell Sean not to drop the dolphins into the mojito. We stopped drinking down to them years ago. I'm 67 and would choose Dumaguete or Valencia. Do not need large population centers anymore. Take care.

Gio, What would be best area for 55 pension year old retired man in Cebu City to live for dating, IT park area or Mactan/Newtown area and I looked at airbnb for Newtown-looks very expensive. Like to live in area for about 3 months to check out. Thanks -enjoy your videos and info

There are 3 areas I like it park, Cebu business park and mactan Newtown. Dating is excellent in all 3 areas due to lots of call centers.

What if I'm single and settled down? Would you still recommend Cebu?

Honestly I'm not looking for anything relationship wise. I'm not coming there with the intention to find a wife. Something better come out of left field and surprise me. The thought of all that traffic in Cebu though, it definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'll most likely see you guys in Dumaguete. @@GiointhePhilippines

Hello, I'm thinking seriously about coming to the Philippines to find a beautiful lady. I have a major concern about bringing my dog. Coming from Greenville South Carolina; the trip will be 24 hours and very stressful. Any ideas and advice about the best way to bring my dog would be very appreciated. Not bringing her is not an option. Thanks.

Are you just planning on going to the Philippines 🇵🇭 to meet a Filipina, then returning back to the US together with your dog? Or are you moving with your dog to live in the PH permanently? What breed of dog?
