Nadia Lewis-Gorton provides a brief history of the Windrush and Euten Lindsay shares his personal story of the Windrush and the Windrush scandal.
Nadia Lewis-Gorton is an Educator with a Master of Arts in Education: Special Education from the University of Exeter. She specialises in reading remediation, teaching academic skills and Home-schooling consultation.
Nadia is also the holder of a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of the West Indies. In addition to being an Education, Nadia is a Director of Wise Hands, a non-governmental organisation based in Jamaica that aims to bridge the gap between the older and younger generation to preserve traditions and culture.
She also serves as a Culture Champion for Devon Development Education (DDE), where her work focuses on Windrush education in Primary and Secondary Schools in Devon. Before transferring to education, Nadia worked in telecommunications industry for ten years, developing skills in research presentation, planning and training.
Euten E Lindsay is a chef with a difference. His first cooking influences came from his grandmother while growing up in Jamaica, and later from his mother after arriving in England in 1973.
Euten worked in top restaurants in London before opening his own Euten’s Restaurant & Bar of Covent Garden. He then became head chef at the prestigious Addington Palace, Surrey. He has written a book, and currently runs Fusion Cuisine Catering and Passion Paradise Drinks in Plymouth.
‘Windrush and Me’ was commissioned for the Black Lives Matter 6th Form Conference, hosted virtually by Wells Cathedral in March 2021, with contributors from the Devon Development Education, Windrush Group. It is freely available for educational purposes and will be shown as part of Windrush 75 celebrations in Devon, Somerset and beyond.
