THIS! They had the chance to fix the mistakes they made during Tangled the Series (basically poor advertising). A show would’ve given these new characters time to develop and change, and space to make some banger songs. Instead they waste potential for corporate greed :’)
@mariechen4375Ай бұрын
The Tangled series is awful and an insult to the movie and the original fairy tale. Rating: 0/10 ⭐ (And that’s being generous) Dear Disney, thanks for taking one of my favorite animated love stories and flipping it upside down into a masterclass in how not to write romance. I came in expecting Tangled: The Series to expand on Rapunzel and Flynn’s beautiful connection, but instead… I got relationship chaos, character assassination, and a bizarre moral about how marriage is actually a trap. Apparently, love means constantly belittling your partner, keeping secrets, and time-traveling just to alter their opinions. And they call this the “healthiest Disney couple”? Here’s a breakdown of why Tangled: The Series is the ultimate lesson in how to ruin a romance: 1. Flynn Rider: Hero to… Comic Relief? Whoever wrote this version of Flynn must have skipped the movie, because the Flynn in Tangled is witty, clever, and knows how to put on a confident front. Yet here, he’s reduced to a dimwitted, self-centered clown. It’s like Disney decided that because he’s the guy, he doesn’t deserve depth. Gone is the sharp, lovable Flynn we knew. Instead, he’s a caricature, constantly getting insulted, pushed aside, and trampled on by Rapunzel’s best friend, Cassandra, while Rapunzel stands by, silent as a wallflower. And Rapunzel has the audacity to get mad if Flynn says anything remotely critical of Cassandra? It’s ridiculous! 2. The Marriage Plot: A Cruel Joke Remember in Tangled when Rapunzel was ready to sacrifice her freedom forever just to be with Flynn? Apparently, now marriage is where she draws the line. And somehow, sacrificing her life for a guy she’s just met is noble, but committing to a man she’s deeply in love with after months of being together is a prison? I mean, this is the 1700s we’re talking about! Back then, marriage wasn’t optional if you wanted to be together, so what is with this plotline where she keeps rejecting his proposals like it’s a game? Flynn has to ask her over and over, only to be rejected each time-how’s that for a “healthy relationship”? 3. Marriage is a Trap? Only If You’re Not With the Right Person This show sends the mind-boggling message that marrying someone you truly love equals “losing your freedom.” Yet in the movie, Rapunzel was ready to lose everything just to save Flynn. Now, she’s scared marriage will mean she’s tied down forever. Newsflash: if you love someone enough to risk your life for them, a wedding ring shouldn’t be the deal-breaker! Also, since when is love about constant sacrifice by one partner? This show makes Flynn give in every single time, like his opinions and dreams don’t matter. In real life, that’s a red flag. 4. The Toxic Double Standard Imagine the roles were reversed, and it was Flynn constantly ignoring Rapunzel’s wishes, brushing her off, and putting his friends above her. Would people call that healthy? Not a chance. But apparently, because Rapunzel’s the “free spirit,” it’s totally okay for her to put Flynn on the back burner and even draw his face on a punching bag. She constantly disregards his feelings, and Disney wants me to believe this is love? In what world does that make any sense? 5. If You Reject Someone’s Proposal… Maybe Don’t Stay Together In real life, rejecting a marriage proposal usually means “I don’t see a future with you.” But here, Rapunzel rejects Flynn’s proposal (repeatedly!) and they just go on dating like it’s nothing. If she’s so terrified of a life with him, maybe she shouldn’t be with him? Flynn deserves someone who loves him without second thoughts, not someone who constantly hesitates and treats him like a backup option. 6. Historical Accuracy Was Thrown Out the Window The movie’s story takes place in a time where marriage was the way for two people to be together. So why does the show treat it like a modern-day relationship drama? It’s like they threw 1700s history out the window for a modern rom-com plot. And if Disney wanted to showcase a couple taking it slow, they had the perfect candidates in Tiana and Naveen-set in the 1920s, they could easily go the “long-term relationship” route. But Rapunzel and Flynn? No way! After everything they went through, they would want to be together. They literally almost died for each other! Why would they wait years to get married? 7. The Lesson Here Is What…? Ultimately, Tangled: The Series teaches that a relationship can function even if one partner has to make all the sacrifices. And that’s not love; that’s just unfair. The series completely ignores Flynn’s background and trauma-he grew up alone, unloved, and still treats Rapunzel right. And yet, all Rapunzel does in return is push him aside, mock his desires, and time-travel to change his personality when he disagrees with her. I mean, I thought love was about respecting each other’s differences, but this show thinks it’s about altering them to fit one person’s vision. Yikes. In Conclusion Disney’s Tangled: The Series took a beautiful love story and turned it into a modern drama where true love is redefined as “wait forever and put up with constant disrespect.” Flynn deserves better than to be treated like Rapunzel’s last choice, and Rapunzel deserves someone who isn’t always giving in. And let’s not even get started on how bizarre it is that marrying someone you love after a few months is bad but throwing your life away for a stranger is good. Logic? None here. If you want a story where characters actually respect each other, go watch the original Tangled and leave this series out of it.

D'y'know the worst part? Tangled the series was GOOD. A truly worthy sequel to the original. I even like it better than the film. Meaning I know _exactly_ what we missed out on when Moana 2 got hastily converted from a series to a film.
@mariechen4375Ай бұрын
No, it's not! The tangled series is awful and disrespectful to the movie and the original fairy tale! Rating: -100/10 ⭐ (Would give it less if possible!) Dear Disney, why did you feel the need to ruin the story of Rapunzel and Flynn? Tangled was perfect-a fairytale with romance, sacrifice, and two people who were willing to give up everything for each other after only a few days. And then came Tangled: The Series, which took this beautiful relationship, threw it in a blender, and added a heaping dose of modern relationship drama that nobody asked for. Flynn Rider, the charming, witty, smart hero, has become… well, let’s just say the “Flynn” in this series is hardly recognizable. First off, Flynn’s character is now unrecognizably arrogant and foolish, constantly sidelined, and endlessly belittled by others, particularly Cassandra, while Rapunzel just stands by and says nothing! Remember the guy who sacrificed everything for Rapunzel? Well, now he’s basically the series’ comic relief who can’t catch a break. And Rapunzel, who seemed like she’d do anything to keep him safe, suddenly just… lets it happen. Worse, she’s even angry at Flynn if he so much as looks at Cassandra the wrong way. Where is the love, Disney? And don’t even get me started on the marriage storyline. In the series, Rapunzel rejects marriage like it’s some kind of trap. She was ready to spend eternity in a tower for Flynn at the end of Tangled, but now, marriage is too much commitment? The message seems to be: “Marriage is a prison-even if you truly love someone.” And it’s not like she rejected him because they’d only known each other for a week-no, this is months later. It’s baffling. You’d think they’d be racing to get married after all the movie’s high-stakes sacrifices. And back then, marriage was the only way they could actually be together! In this setting, if you’re in love, you get married-end of story. But Disney’s got Flynn waiting around endlessly, while Rapunzel seems more interested in her “freedom.” Then there’s the insulting double standard. Rapunzel’s allowed to keep secrets, take him for granted, even draw his face on a punching bag (for Cassandra’s benefit!) without a hint of remorse. She even goes back in time to change his personality just because he dares to disagree with her. If Flynn tried even half of this nonsense, he’d be roasted alive. And if the writers wanted a storyline about a couple who wouldn’t marry right away, why not go with Tiana and Naveen? Their relationship was playful and open-ended; they weren’t sacrificing their lives for each other on day one. Rapunzel and Flynn, though, were the opposite-they knew instantly that they’d found “the one,” and in their time period, you don’t put off marriage after finding that kind of love. If they’d almost died for each other, why would they not want to marry? And what message are we sending to young viewers here? That a man’s opinions don’t matter in a relationship? That marriage is some horrible trap if you love someone? That one person (in this case, Flynn) should constantly give up his feelings and wishes for the other? Poor Flynn deserves someone who loves him, respects his opinions, and doesn’t see his proposal as a prison sentence. And why would any self-respecting guy put up with this? The Flynn Rider from the movie, with his rough edges and ego, would never stick around for this treatment. It’s painful to watch him go from confident to sidelined so fast. And the historical accuracy? Nonexistent. Back then, people who loved each other and wanted to be together got married. That was just the norm. Imagine Cinderella or Aurora saying, “Thanks, Prince Charming, but I need my ‘me’ time.” And I’ll never understand why Disney chose this couple to give a “modern” relationship twist. Flynn and Rapunzel are willing to die for each other in the movie, yet in the series, marriage is too much? Disney, how did we go from a couple so in love that they’d risk their lives, to a series where one character is manipulated and disrespected for laughs? A guy who went from orphaned outcast to world-class charmer doesn’t become a love-struck fool who’s okay with constant rejection, insults, and unrealistic compromises in a matter of months. And if you wanted modern drama, why pick a story set in the 1700s? If you’re looking for healthy Disney couples, why not remember Tarzan and Jane, or Robin Hood and Maid Marian? Flynn and Rapunzel from the movie belong in that same category. Tangled was supposed to be about true love conquering all. Instead, we got a series that treats commitment as a burden and turns one of Disney’s best male characters into a watered-down shadow of himself. This show sends the wrong message and messes up a story that didn’t need more “modern lessons.” Flynn deserved better, Rapunzel deserved better, and frankly, so did we. For all these reasons, I’ll never consider Tangled: The Series canon and will happily pretend it never existed so I can enjoy the movie. In fact, if I had to take it as canon, I almost wish Flynn had just stayed dead in the movie-it would’ve been tragic, but at least it would’ve preserved the dignity of his character and their love story.

Their reasoning was that the overall look and animation was so beautiful that it just HAD to be seen on the big screen, despite being about 22 minutes long and people wanting to see "Coco" instead of a near half hour long Frozen short. as a theater employee who can sneak peaks into movie rooms one thing I really liked was the way they handled the Kakamora, those little coconut dudes were one of the most popular parts of the movie and instead of oversaturating the sequel with them it gave a simple "hey, these funky little dudes had to come from somewhere, here's why they're all out at sea on a giant Mad Max ship instead of on home island" kinda plot development And god the way the Chief and the kakamora that was with the crew hug at the end warmed my heart, that wasn't a leader welcoming home his soldier on a job well done, that was a happy father proudly embracing his son, not just for what he did for their people, but for also coming home safely
@LazyRosey-os7jyАй бұрын
Omg yeah the part where they hugged made me realize that specific kakamora is the chief's CHILD. It made the part when they looked at each other before the little kakamora cut the rope more impactful for me.

I know a lot of people are disappointed Matangi wasn't a villain, but honestly I kind of like the twist. She's still a fun chaos goddess, I like the "Get Lost" song, and I'm actually pretty interested in the Megura-like deal with Nalo she's stuck in, and how it'll play out in Moana 3. But yeah, Disney really shouldn't have said she's a villain in those interviews.
@llamalinguist3250Ай бұрын
She was a really interesting character. I still haven't decided if she's a villain or not. Did you notice that her advice got Moana killed? And it seemed in the middle credits scene that she believed that what happened should have freed her from the deal. I hope they manage to get good enough writing to pull off whichever direction they're planning.
@hkd8227Ай бұрын
To be fair, the marketing made it seem like she was the villain so it makes sense why people are disappointed.
@LittleNatNixАй бұрын
@@llamalinguist3250 I think she was at least intended to be a villain in that way, but disney failed miserably by not giving her enough screen time or any big villain-y moments. I mean, can you imagine how cool it would've been if Matangi was the one that showed up to take away Maui's powers while he was lifting the island? With Nalo's strength of course, she wouldn't have the power to take away Maui's powers. It would've also made more sense as to why Maui hated Matangi so much and given Moana that crucial realisation moment that Matangi was not, in fact, just a "really cool woman!"
@Excalibur9905Ай бұрын
I fairly enjoyed Moana 2, but I agree with basically everything you bring up. It really does feel like a TV series rushed into a 90 minute film, and knowing that the movie was PROBABLY rushed to meet a thanksgiving release deadline, that makes it even worse. It's saying something that my favorite Disney villain from the last 5 years isn't even from one of their movies, which were notable for their famously devilish villains. I was alright with most of the twist villain trend, but now? Their films just feel lacking that element of peril and narrative catharsis that previously held them up as something special. I want them to be better, but at this rate? Maybe I'll check back in with Disney in another 5 years, but I don't have much hope.

At least Tamatoa is back, I guess. There are some parts I think "Beyond" and "Get Lost" are good songs, and Matangi is a fun character who just got screwed over by false marketing. But overall, this definitely should've stayed a Disney Plus series instead of being stitched together into a movie.

This is the story on who matangi is based on The Tuitoga Manaia had two wives: one Tongan and the other Samoan. The Samoan wife, Leutogitupa'itea, was the daughter of Mulianalafai. Before leaving Samoa, her brother, Taoulupo'o, advised her to send a sign if she ever needed his help. In time, the Tongan wife bore a child, while Leutogi remained childless. Jealous and tormented by the Tongan woman's taunts, Leutogi decided to kill the child. One day, while at their common bathing place, Leutogi took a tuaniu (a thin spine from a coconut leaf) and fatally pierced the child's skull. The Tongan woman, hearing her child's cries, returned to find her child dead. Leutogi was suspected, and the Tuitoga, enraged by the murder, ordered her to be burned alive. Recalling her brother's advice, Leutogi stirred the ocean, sending waves to Samoa as a signal for help. Taoulupo'o saw the sign and sent his pet white pe'a (bat), supported by the spirits of the dead, to aid her. The white bat, along with the bats of Tonga, saved Leutogi by extinguishing the flames with their water, preventing her execution. Surprised by her survival, the Tuitoga exiled Leutogi to a barren, haunted island. The aitu (spirit) named Losi, who inhabited the island, expected her to perish from hunger and thirst. However, bats brought her food daily, keeping her alive. Eventually, the Fijian Tuiaea sailed by the island, and upon Leutogi's request, he took her with him. They married, and she bore him a son, Fa'asega. When Fa'asega grew up, Leutogi sent him to Savai'i with three titles for her family: Tonumaipe'a, in honor of the bats that saved her; Tilomai, commemorating the aitu Losi's watchful gaze; and Tau'ili'ili, referencing her use of stones to cover her oven in place of leaves. The name "Tonumaipe'a" translates to "the decision from the bat," symbolizing the pivotal role the bats played in her survival.

I will say, "Get Lost" is the only song that I could see myself listening to on the regular. With better context and less "repeating the message of the song because our primary audience is 8 year olds", it could've been a fun musical number. "Beyond" is nice, but it feels too similar to "How Far I'll Go."

Mona 3 needs to have her be a failure as a demigod. She can learn from Maui as her mentor and be told that in order to be a demigod she needs to separate herself from humans because she no longer is and she cant accept it. Also in the 1st movie one if the themes is "dont let others dictate your way in life." In the second theres this vauge theme of "dont be afraid to go your own way." With three you can explore the theme of "dont be afraid of the choices you make." That ends with Moana making a very big decision that no one really likes but is ultimately the best choice to make.

Hot take, I actually enjoyed the film quite a bit. I liked Moana's crew, they felt like the crew from Lightyear but actually funny. Rose Matafeo voicing Loto was a big plus in that regard. The new songs are majorly catchy: What lies beyond, nothing gets better than this, get lost and Chee Hoo have been stuck in my brain. Yes I concede the dialogue for a lot of the beginning was a bit clunky and felt like a younger kids show (repetition of her goal and that she will go beyond etc). But considering how they had to twist this from a show to a film, I think it just about worked. I'd take this film over Frozen 2 any day. Plus, it opened up a lot more for a bigger third film that'll surely happen now that 2 seems to be financially successful.

What frustrates me the most is just how easy it is to fix. Just dump the crew and replace them with Moana's sister. Have her come with as a stowaway and be someone Moana now needs to protect. That way instead of developing three characters they would only need to develop one that we already feel attached to just by being Moana's cute little sis. Could even give her the same traits as the crew. Make her constantly take the ship apart, because of how curious she is. Make her be fun loving but also kinda moody like kids on road trips are. Make her befriend that Kakamora and a little Maui stan. In fact, that's the emotional plot right there. Simea looks up to Moana as her hero, which she enjoys. But then she actually comes on her voyage and her opinion of her shifts. Sailing the ocean is much more boring than she thought and Moana is being overprotective. And when they meet Maui she suddenly likes him much more. All of this could connect back to how Moana felt leashed by her dad. Tell me this doesnt sound much more interesting than the crew members.

Kids these days don't know about the straight to DVD releases!" - the crunch time was doubled, if not tripled, to get this out in theaters for the holidays. It seems like him and the bat chick was just a Hades and Megara ripoff, but that short moment was still more interesting to see than the majority of this movie, sadly. The lady at first seemed like an interesting villain similar to Sindbad's Eris, but it soon turned out to be completely untrue. I didn't have high expectations for this sequel, but it still managed to disappoint me so many times it's not even funny. I saw a lot of criticism that Wish's songs, mainly the "villain" song, just sounded like a poor imitation of his stuff and yet the one movie where it would make sense to bring him back they decided nah we'll just do ChatGPT version of it. Honestly I think this is just indicative of Disney's massive ego and belief that it's the genius and not its writers. They also seem to have this problem of; something creative; copy it and don’t experiment at all for next few years; someone pushes through; repeat.
