Thank you! Another teacher on KZbin made eliciting seem like a guessing game (what you said not to do) and it seemed kind of pointless, this clarifies a lot!

Hi Jo. Thanks for your priceless contributions. If u don’t mind. Let me pick your brain about the pre teaching stage in a Celta TP : Do you think it’s still part of the pre teaching stage if I elicit the words (I’ll teach 5 words through pictures on each slide), then (after eliciting and teaching these new words) I give them an exercise to match the words and the pictures. I’ll have 6 slides for pre teaching: 5 slides for the words they will see in the text, and 1 slide for testing what they have learned. Thank you 🙏🏼

The best person to ask about this is your tutor, but what I'd say is that you want to be clear in your mind what the AIM of each stage is, so if you're pre-teaching words only because they might block comprehension of the text or task, then you don't want to spend a lot of time on this. If you're thinking that you want to teach them these words and they're useful and you want to check they can use them, this is probably more of a Vocab teaching stage (also good but better after they've seen the text and the new language in a context- it'll be easier to understand). You might find this video helpful kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXW7iGCliddonpI Good luck with it :)
