I honestly was fascinated with this version. It’s insane that by this time around Nintendo in America knew where the profits where but Japan had other plans. MK wasn’t a big hit in Japan regardless but it’s still a weirdly fascinating version.

It was Manhunt 2 for the PS2 and PSP that were centered. During executions, the game's screen turns red, then silver and then green and grainy to hide the violence. The Wii version was uncensored. And with the motion controls, the kills seemed a lot more violent. I had the Wii version but it got stolen along with the rest of my video game collection. When I decided to rebuild my collection and build it up bigger than what it was before. I decided to get Mamhunt 2 for the PS2 because it was cheaper. But after playing it and seeing how centered it was I realized I made a mistake. I haven't played it ever since.

In manhunt 2 they had a filter (or rather several different filters.) over the takedowns in the cut versions some not as severe as others. That was on psp/ps2 pc only has the red filter.

Japan had big censorship back then in the 90s with video games 😢 for example goldeneye 007 on the n64 didn’t have hunting knifes it got removed . “ Hunting Knife was removed from the Japanese localization. As it was related to the Kobe child murders, a pair of highly publicized 1997 child murders carried out by a 14-year-old boy”

In the late 90's i ordered a copy of MK for the JP Mega CD, due to the import seller describing it as having green blood. Once it arrived i was disappointed to see it was exactly like the US Sega CD. Afterwards I found out he had that mixed up with the SFC version.

The JPN version is weird with that strange black and white filter for the finishers and also turning the blood more into a slime, funny how shortly after MK3, MK was just straight banned in Japan (also the game lacks the language barrier, oh and speaking of language, Ps1 MK3 has a narrator to tell the story in japanese while the text is fully in english).

Manhunt was on PS2 and it wasn't censored at all. Was actually one of the most violent games up until that point. Interesting point, this isnt the only time Nintendo nerfed the gore in this way. The Doom and Doom 2 ports for the Gameboy Advance also had the green blood.

First, it's the Super Famicom. Also, the reason why later Mortal Kombat games were not released in Japan was due to stricter regulations concerning violence and gore, especially after there were several brutal murders in the late 90s.
