I prefer the rubber type. Had a ceramic, less than a year it leak and having to replace it is costly. 10 years warranty you said. Well a rubber washer can last longer than that and cheaper. I notice the ceramic "door" closes just about a mm, why can they make it closes 4 mm instead. That is the main problem. Now I am collecting rubber washer type tap for my home.

Had no end of troubles with ceramic washers; and costs much more to replace in our country! The older taps with rubber washers are outlasting them many times over.

Ceramic discs are great until the tap drips. Then it becomes a nightmare trying to obtain a replacement insert. There are so many different tap inserts out there with different splines and dimensions. It's pot luck whether one can get a new insert or end up having to change the whole tap. Give me a tap with an ordinary rubber washer anyday over a ceramic disc. So much cheaper and easier to replace when they go wrong

Wholeheartedly agree. I'm losing my mind searching for that damn silicone gasket that sits on top and I can't find the right size anywhere. The ceramic disk works just fine, but the presence of the silicone gasket totally defeats the purpose, because if that goes bust, good luck finding a replacement.

Getting a plumber who won’t sabotage the job so he can make more money “fixing it” next time is a problem too. The old style rubber washers used to last decades without any bother. The ceramic valve kitchen sink tap we have is driving me nuts. So far I’ve found that running the hot tap for a minute stops it for a while. Strange but it works so far. Is there someone you can get to inspect the work done by a plumber?

Thats why you should always keep the packaging or sales receipt. You can look up the tap and find replacement parts

I have quarter turn ceramic and have to replace them every 2-3 years cause they start leaking, Also cost a lot more then a rubber washer. The cheapest I found was $10.99 (USD) each . They are very easy to replace though.

Good video, but if you find the headnut is stuck fast, look out for the easy tapslitter, makes it so much easier.

We have never had a problem replacing rubber washers on our taps. They cost next to nothing and last years. These ceramic values are expensive and in our case, fail about every 2 years. Ceramic valves seem like a good idea, but unfortunately, evidence suggests otherwise.

Ceramic disc is great most of the time how ever there are some draw backs. Water hammer if pipe work is of of water mains, and unclipped. Also if there are none return valves fitted the ceramic disc can shatter. Also a small bit of grit can also stop the ceramic plates from shutting closed. Over the years I have seen and repaired.

10 years is just about right. My kitchen tap starts to drip in about 9 years. Single occupant and seldom needs to use the tap in the kitchen.

Please explain why the traditional taps in my utility room and downstairs loo have never failed on over twenty years of living here by my less than ten year old kitchen taps with modern ceramic taps have had to be repaired several times. I’m about to replace the whole taps only three years after my last repair. I’m sure modern taps are made to fail quickly.

It's not the ceramic discs that fail it's that rubber washer at the end when it worn it stops applying pressure to join the two discs together . I used a regular rubber washer to repair mine

Hi. I just replaced my ceramic cartridge. I bought ceramic disc washers but I still end up replacing the whole cartridge. Why are the old rubber gasket faucets more durable? There seems to be two small rubber O-rings on the handle part that seems to wear out as well. Thank you. God bless, Revelation 21:4

Excuse me sir, if they are better than the old ones, why do they sell replacements ?. I recently, had leak with the ceramic tap, and what I did was just insert a rubber washer, the one that the old tap use, and it work, save me many bucks.

hi, you mean you put a rubber washer under the ceramic cartridge and it works again without leaking ??.......the rubber washer need to be exact same size as the one in the ceramic cartridge or can be slightly different size ?

With the old tap washers they were cheaper and easier to replace it won't be long before people start buying the old tap systems My Daughters taps started to make a whistling noise ever time she turned on the tap so switched them back to the old systems and no whistling.

They are no good for low pressure feed . Did a whole bathroom refit myself. Had a standard bath mixer no pump etc before and shower pressure was fine with old style full turn tap valves . new mixer are 1/4 turn Ceramic and pressure is down by half . Changed them out for old style full turn and bingo back to normal. warning unless you have or putting in a pump or you have high pressure system give these values a wide berth.

Hi, I’m finding it hard to find a mixer without the 1/4 ceramic disk which mixer do you have because I also have a low pressure feed ?

Can I replace a compression one with a ceramic one in the same tap?
@davidcoyle7125 Жыл бұрын
Very late reply, just seen message, but yes easy swap changing a rubber type tap insert to a ceramic insert, inserts are so cheap that it is hardly worth fitting a rubber washer, as long as water is of to the tap an insert can be fitted in less than a minute.
