Why do Chinese bikes cause so much controversy?

You have just said the best thing I've heard anyone say about Chinese bikes. They bring a new shiny bike to many more people. Never thought of it that way before. Wise words jockey. 👍

Morning Dave. Look forward to more on the MT 👍. I had a keyboard warrior recently, a big fan of you and Mr Fillingham. All his comments on my vids were very negative (suggesting I watch you two to see how vids should be done). His last one, caught me at a very low ebb for reasons I won’t go into, having a detrimental effect on my mindset, which in turn made me question whether to continue with my channel. Even though, 99% of my genuine subscribers thoroughly enjoy my content, and say so in the comments, that 1 person kicking me in the balls, when I was already down, really did put me in a bad place. He will never know where his bullying almost took me…………🚂😢. Fortunately, I am recovering slowly, though still not where I was before. I just don’t have the same enthusiasm to get out there, ride my bike (or demo bike), and spend hours in editing. I am sure in time I will get back to producing regular content, but not there just yet. I do know about the hide from channel feature, but try not to use it, though I will in the future. Cheers

It’s great to see the CF Moto. I don’t particularly want one - I’m happy with my RE Hunter 350 - but I like to see the different bikes. I had a Chinese Lexmoto 125 for a year before the Hunter - it was looked after and serviced, never missed a beat. I remember the ‘anti Japanese bikes’ rubbish back in the 70s, it’s the same story now with the Chinese. Keep up the good work!
@madcockney
@madcockney 3 ай бұрын
When the Japanese bikes came into the UK my father said they were rubbish, and too high revving. Some were similar in max RPM to non works Manx Nortons of the time. However they proved otherwise, and where they were lacking learnt to improve. Generally, even outside the motorbike fraternity, people associated China with rubbish. The issue was with the western world who wanted to buy at the cheapest, that often meant low quality, and with the intermediaries being able to increase their profit margins. The Chinese have always been able to produce quality products to specification if you were willing to pay for it, that often meant that the western world had to have their own quality control on-site. Where they were lacking they would learn and improve. There were some shoddy Chinese PTWs but there was also some good ones. (A now defunct motorcycle dealer who sold quite a few different brands told me that there were Chinese brands that they would never deal with whereas others had the quality and they did deal with.) The big difference, and this comes from their own local and similar markets, is that they concentrated on small bikes and from a Western view many were not that stylish. Once the styling, size, etc improved they would, and have eventually become more attractive. China, like some other countries, has never had an issue with copying others technology, etc, but these days you get Chinese companies complaining about other Chinese companies doing this to them, or producing fakes. You are likely, over the long term see more of this and the PRC clamping down on it as it effects their exports.

Hi Dave, Thing I really like about your videos is your straight talking, honest style. You say it as you see it - which is how it is. Keep on as you are. The Japanese went through the same criticism in the late 60’s / 70’s as the Chinese manufacturers are going through. You are discovering their efforts in improving their products which as seen in the 800MT. You have faith in them and are enjoying the machine - letting us all know as you go. Ignore the trolls and please keep doing what you are doing.👍

The thing is, like cars, you can go out and buy whatever you want, depending on your budget, need and expectations. You can pull into any cafe on a sunny day and you will see the Dacia Sandero alongside the BMW X5, parked next to the old Triumph Spitfire. All doing the same job in different ways. Pull into the same cafe on the same day and you will no doubt see the Benelli TRK702 parked next to the GS, nestled in-between a RE Classic. All doing the same job in different ways. A bike is not all about resale values, it's about worth. Carry on Dave, your channel is one of the best out there.

Hello again Dave and I for one am glad that the CF Moto has captured your heart and that your videos have probably steered others to consider at least a test ride. As for abusive contributors as a long term garage owner and MOT tester there were occasions where the presenter disagreed with my assessment and let fly with some choice personal verbality, I used to come back with ‘cmon is that the best you can do?, my kids call me worse than that. I ride with Falco Aviator boots, similar to yours but with the zips as well as laces, a doddle to fit and remove. The road you took over Burley Woodhead is a pain, I travelled along it four times last Friday, HGVs opposing clueless entitled 4x4 driver held the whole road at a stand still for 10 minutes. Great video and you will be at 10k subscribers before you know it. Andy.

I’m new to bike, running a Keeway RK V125C and it has been trouble free for 15 months. My son has run a couple of Keeway RKF 125s and except for a bad ecu on the second bike he hasn’t had any issues. The first one was stolen and declared a total loss. I see a lot of negative comments about Chinese bikes, but I found that many of those I’ve questioned have never had one. Yes, they are made to a lower price point so there will be some compromises on components etc, but the big brands are out of reach for many people so to my mind they fill that market gap. Great channel, keep up the good work!

I don't think these other manufacturers, have, will drop the ball, but it's not possible to match the low labour costs, CPP manufacturers enjoy. Plus let's not forget the outright plagiarism these established manufacturers have had to endure, millions spent on R&D that they have to try and recoup that CPP manufacturers didn't. Nothing wrong per say with these bikes, but let's not kid ourselves, this is a different type of take over, than the Japanese did too the British industry
@adrianstrand1120

We must be at a similar stage when Japanese bikes started coming in to the market dominated by triumph etc look what happened then ! These Chinese bikes will sell if proven reliable and if enough dealers take them up.
@colinstorrar449
@colinstorrar449 4 ай бұрын
My issue with Chinese motorcycle isn’t the bikes themselves., which have vastly improved over the last few years, it’s the dealer back up. The dealers are few and far and that worries me, if I were to buy one and find myself stuck on a European trip, which I tend to do solo, and no dealer anywhere near. So, although I really like the MT800, I’ll be sticking with my Tiger for the time being.

Morning Dave (gives me 2001 a Space Odyssey vibe typing that) , didn’t Falco have a hit with “Rock me Amadeus”? So he’s now moved into Motocycle boot manufacture 😋 . Regarding the CF Moto, there are always people who will trot out the “Chinesium crap”, just like the “Indian rubbish” brigade who slant Royal Enfield’s. These people have usually never ridden one or even seen one up close. If people don’t want a Chinese or Indian bike then that’s their choice and they’re entitled to it. But to try and insult or belittle people who don’t share your opinion and do like value for money machines is as you say, ridiculous. As a life long Monty Python fan I always think “Spiny Norman” when I hear the classics name. Keeps safe and keep enjoying all your machines.

Morning Dave. The CF Moto bikes have always been a sleeper range in the UK. In particular the original 650 GT which looked like a mini Pan. But they've carried on putting out better and better products. A shame they've dropped the latest version of that from their UK line up. But the MT range is great anyway. Voge are also very good. The DS525X is an excellent bike too and a great alternative to the new NX500 and ridiculous value for money.

Have never been a huge fan of Chinese bikes though I have owned a few in the past and in my experience had been let down by them despite my best efforts to repair what needed to be repaired, however in the end wasn't successful as it become a never ending battle to get the bike(s) back on the road lol. Main issue with them then were the wiring, the manufacturers were not using good enough wiring as they'd either corrode and break apart within the connector or terminals far too easily but not only that you couldn't solder them for shit...I cannot slate them though because the Chinese bikes have come a fair way since because they are seemingly getting better, seeing a lot more people buying them now and from the people I have spoken to they've not had much of an issue with them either if having no issues at all. There was a time where I'd of been reluctant to buy another Chinese bike though I had contemplated on getting another, maybe taking one out on demo for a bit to see how it goes.

One a little cruiser which will be 22 cc less than Honda's cmx500 and the other will be a competitor to the Himalayan and Triumph 400 Scrambler. I think the cruiser is in stock but not sure about the latter.

I’ve just watched this video and your excellent first review of your new CF Moto. Congratulations on the new bike by the way. Looks very good. I could’ve guessed you’d get some abuse, firstly it’s Chinese bike and then you dare suggest a GS beater. Lining yourself up for attack on at least two fronts. 😂 There are those that will damn anyone for buying a Chinese product, my suggestion to them would be moved out of their homes and into a cave, this should ensure they’re not surrounded by Chinese products. They’ll say they copy western products. This is true, there are Chinese knock offs that are blatant copies of cheap simple parts. However when it comes to bikes, they’ll have been developed just like all the manufacturers do. And for the record as someone working within the industry, if you think that BMW, Triumph, Honda etc don’t have all the models from competitors in bits in their R&D departments you’re sadly mistaken. I’m currently on a GS ( had two Crosstourers before, which is how I came to your channel). As such, I’m now a member on UKGSER. There’s certainly element of GS owners who will not accept any criticism of the model. It is a fantastic bike, but there are elements that fall way short of the price tag it’s attracts. If CFMoto have hit the market with a product to rival the established brands then good luck to them. I have people pass comment on my Himalayan being Indian rubbish yet they’ve never ridden one. Will the CFmoto prove to be a reliable bike? Will you lose thousands when you sell it? Or will it start on the button every day, shrug of the miles and transport you to your destination every time with no fuss and a smile on your face? We don’t know, you’ll tell us. I for one hope it lives up to your expectations ( I think it probably will) I’ll be watching to see . 👍🏻

There is a lot of positive videos and comments coming back about cfmoto and particularly the ibex 800. I wonder how the parts service and warranty will go here in the states? CFMoto USA website is only offering a 2 year warranty and I believe where you are it’s coming with a four year warranty. Thanks for the video.

back in the day the quality of bikes made out of chinesium was dire but recently the quality has got a lot better problem is people try to compare them with the mainstream manufacturers yet forget the price difference. for an entry level bike you cant go wrong, as for the insults people dont understand how a Yorkshire man thinks we are too thick or too thick skinned to realise we are being insulted & lastly, an ex plod going the wrong way around a roundabout, tut tut lol

I think your brave in a way getting the CFmoto and I will be really interested to see how it performs over the next hopefully few years. I'm sure if it proves a good buy many will follow. Cheers and keep the videos coming.

Good morning Dave. I didn't comment on the CF Moto video as I was on holiday in Scotland with a less than reliable signal. The bike looks fantastic and is very good value for money. More than that it gives a better balance to the dynamic of your channel with the three very different bikes, in other words something for almost everybody. Those figures are soon going to rocket through the 10k mark. Ride safe, best regards Stephen.

I saw your video explaining why a single 350cc bike was the perfect tourer - even two up. You explained very eloquently your concerns about other riders falling for the "you must have a big heavy bike to tour on." Now you have bought a big heavy, albeit 800cc bike. I'm confused, what does that do for you that the 350 doesn't ? Cheers.

All you KZbinrs or at least the smaller channels do this for entertainment which I for one are for ever grateful. As for the Trolls what they crave is an argument, the more you argue the better they like it, Hide From All is just perfect, made my day. I wonder how many detractors are aware that CF moto aspar are racing within moto 2 which is the pinnacle of motorcycle racing ie one tier below moto gp. Such is their commitment to development , suggest these trolling fools take a look and educate themselves. I’ll be very interested to see how you get on with your new CF Moto Dave, best of luck. Paul

I think it's just lazy, slagging something because it's Chinese. It seems very short sighted to me. Assuming IC bikes will continue, it would seem inevitable that eventually a manufacturing base like China has will eventually be producing great bikes in huge numbers. They will get better with every model. History shows this to be true. They need the commercial genius Honda had with Takeo Fujisawa to get them out there and build the brands. For now, it's interesting how far along this path they are right now and you having the CF will be good for that, look forward to seeing how it goes. One negative, I know it's subjective but.. She's not a looker, is she?

Nowt finer than a bit of discharge (as long as its the right stuff 😆). Looking forward to the product reviews and can't wait to understand your thoughts on the tyre pump. I too have one and think it's great but your thoughts will be welcome. CFMoto - the Chinese manufacturers will be top of the tree soon enough. It's simple economics, trust me. You have bought the right bike in this cost of living rise. I find it difficult to destract myself from negative comments but I am slowly getting used to this situ. It is amazing how one bad comment takes ones focus from the miriad of positive comments. Anyway, great video as per usual 👍

Morning Dave. Since watching your vid on the MT 800 Touring the other day, I'm all but sold on one rather than the Suzuki GSX S GX ( say that when you're drunk) as it's over 5 grand cheaper and has everything. As good as the Suzuki is, and I've tested one, for £14500 - No luggage, no centre stand, no heated grips, and for a supposed touring capable bike, a screen the size of a postage stamp that needs an allen key or similar to adjust. The centre stand alone being £470... Your review made the difference. On the subject of Chinese bikes and the Chinese, they are easier to interpret than some of your Yorkshire 'twang' From one of your followers over the fence in Lancashire....(.like we are any easier...😝😉) Keep up the good stuff..👍
