Thank you for a great informative video. Got my first tarantula back in 2009 while I was still in med school. It was a Chaco sling about 1cm legspan. Today she (yes, confirmed female) is still with me 11 years later, and part of the family. Symbolically she has taught me a lot... In order to grow in life, you need to leave your past behind and step out of it (the old exoskeleton during a molt). It may be uncomfortable (on your back, feet in the air) and you may be vulnerable (soft new exoskeleton after a molt with soft fangs), however, you will be bigger, stronger and more vibrant when you are back on your feet, facing the world big and bold!

Just added this T. to my family. he is easily the most docile and “friendly” tarantula. He is big and fluffy and his color is striking. (I actually don’t know yet if he is actually a “he”, I just automatically default to that lol). If you wonder if you should get this spider, the answer is YES.

I love this species. It was my son’s very first T and have been loving her for 3 years now. Very chill and laid back when she wants to. Has her moments of course but what T doesn’t lol. Great video and keep them videos coming Richard

One of the most relaxed tarantulas I have the pleasure of owning. I didn’t know much about these and a vendor at a reptile expo recommended this for my 11 year old. She’s now 17 and it’s still going strong!

This is one of my favorite tarantula species. You described it perfectly. I have a juvenile female that is in pre-molt now and I am waiting for months to mold. I miss how she was able to catch even large discoid roaches. However, although they don’t kick hairs, hairs can be detached easily when you handle them. I discovered the hard way that I have a bad reaction to hairs of these species. My hands can itch for a few days, and then soft parts of skin may exfoliate after a few days. So, although it is very beautiful and docile, I cannot handle it for long. I don’t have the same problem with other large species, like Aphonopelma chalcodes.

I just got a well sized one from a local mom n pop pet store. It seemed to have been forfeited by an owner who maybe couldn’t keep it. It’s a good 3-4 in and I paid 50$. It hasn’t hooked or anything and gosh am I excited to see it grow more!!!

Fantastic video! I subbed!! Picked one of these (hopefully) gals from fearnottarantulas as well, at around 3/4 of an inch, and she is now about 4-5 inches. She's a beast, loves to wreck her cage, and cover anything above the substrate in web!! Rehoming her today, which brought me to your video. Even if you know what you are doing, it's always a good idea to watch a new video from a respectable source to refresh your brain on ideas, etc. You provided that, so thanks so much, keep doing what you do!!

You are already up to 60 T's since March! Wow....wont be long til you have caught up with me. They are addictive...i feel you there. They are just so fascinating to watch. That is one of the best part of making these videos...it encourages me to sit with just one species and really look at it closely and appreciate the intricate details of each species through the magnification of a camera lens. It adds a whole new level of appreciation.

I found mine back in 2013 at a reptile shop not quite full grown... someone could not keep her and gave her up. I wanted to buy her but the owner was holding her for someone else and I was bummed.. Went back a week later and the owner gave in and sold her to me for $60. It was definitely a female and she was around 6" and very friendly, and I estimate she was anywhere from 5-7 years old. She was full grown by 2017 and I was always comfortable holding her as she is a sweetheart. They are not supposed to have memory, but they do recognize us to an extent if they are handled often. I still have her and believe she is 15+ years old now and full grown at 7.5" at this point, and something interesting happened where her carapace almost resembles a Chilean Rose T now oddly enough with a hint of the same color. I don't hold her as much and she avoids me, and sometimes when I try to pick her up she will kick now. Otherwise, if she does not kick and I pick her up, its almost like she feels my hands and mellows out and lays on me. She was one of the only ones I trusted to let my exes young daughter hold under supervision of course. One time I spooked her and she ran and got stuck trying to squeeze into her log that was blocked, and I stupidly went after her to get her unstuck and she turned around and jumped in the air to try and chomp me, but it was out of fear and she is not handled. Otherwise, if you reach into her enclosure and go to pick her up when she is not in her hide with a burrow underneath, there is no defensive behavior. If I start holding her more again, she will likely stop avoiding me as much. My Go-To is my LP at 8-9 years old not full grown and is stretching and hardening after a recent molt, and was 9" just before the molt. She is the largest one I have and by far the most docile, and will actually sit on my desk with me while I work with the music coming from the computer speakers, and the vibration from the keyboard and mouse, and I can pet her abdomen like nothing at the same time she is preening by cleaning her fangs, and scratching her spinerettes with her rear leg and she is completely mellow. With her being the 3rd largest in the world, she is a site to behold even though she is not full grown yet and probably needs a few more years to grow longer legs, but mainly grow into her leg span and get bulkier. She literally eats out of my hands and I know I should not do that, but that is how well this spider has gotten used to handling. They are not supposed to remember us, but I have been handling some of mine for many years and I can confirm there is some sort of recognition as said before, and I strongly believe there is more going on in their primitive brains than even the entomologists know. My oldest is my B. Hamorii (Red-Knee) and I bought her as a B. Smithi, and is approaching 27 years old this summer. At the time she was still an endangered species, and these guys along with the closely related Bracyhy's (fire knee, orange knee, etc.) along with B. Albopilosum are very long lived. My oldest Curly passed in 2019 at 24 years old due to health issues, but she would have lived longer otherwise. One fact that most people do not know is that some of the Brachy's develop a sore on the underside of their abdomen as they get much older, as it happened to my curly hair a few years before passing, and my B. Hamorii has the same sore as of 2017, but thankfully so far she has been able to molt ok just like the curly hair female did. I don't want to jinx it, and hope she lives to the end of her life span with no issues otherwise.. they are literally my babies and I am VERY connected with them. The oldest Tarantula I have seen is a Red-Knee that is in one of our Tarantula Facebook Groups, and the owner is actually elderly and claims for them to be 40 years old now which I would not be surprised if its true. Otherwise, my Red-Knee is the oldest one around that I have seen out of any of the groups, and most people are very surprised when they hear of the age. My advice to any would-be owner, is that these animals can like VERY long as you can see, as long as they are female and its a commitment!

I've had mine for about 7 years not sure if the sex but it's been an amazing time with this T I hope I have for a long time. It's out all the time. It's around 7.5 inches. It has crawled to my hand while cleaning and has crawled up my arm. Never given me a threat pose or kicked hairs at me. Thanks for the videos please keep them coming. Not sure if you have one but if you do would like to see a giant centipede video. As far as a T video would like a king baboon sometime thanks again and God bless

My first T was a Chaco. I say was because she's been holed up in her burrow for going on FOUR MONTHS.

My Chaco went from being the sweetest most docile T in my collection, to the nastiest most blood thirsty psycho I've ever seen, in 1 molt. And she's HUGE!!! You open her enclosure and she charges the door ready to rip your throat out. She got destructive too. She's absolutely destroyed the backing in the enclosure. Middle of the night I get woke up because she's in her enclosure ripping it up more, and she bulldozes her enclosure too. One time I needed to get her water dish out and clean it up, she had taken it to a back corner of the enclosure and buried it. So I waited a bit, then I noticed she was on the glass of the opposite end, so I said here's my chance, I open the enclosure, start reaching for the water dish, and she JUMPED off the glass directly towards my hand. She just barely missed me too. It was like she set a trap to get me! I'm telling ya, I would rather handle an OBT than this girl. haha She absolutely destroys dubias though, so that's fun. Crunchy crunchy!

How do you know it’s a girl? From a molt I assume? I have a golden knee myself about the same size as yours.

Yeah, I actually have a timelapse video of her molting and when she was done I grabbed that molt and examined it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/apq9mIqnbrtgp9k
