Thank you for explaining sourdough! I have been buying it at the store, but I think I'm ready to give it a try. I had no idea that you had to feed your starter. It's like having a pet! Might as well give it a name 😉. I have the same wheat grinder and I like it.

Farmhouse on Boone is a wonderful channel for sourdough as well if you're going to be getting into it! I have a bigger starter too :-) I make pancakes, muffins, Dutch babies, rolls, pasta, etc. I sometimes use it daily! It is excellent for your gut!!

Why do you mill up so much flour and then not use it all? 7 cups of berries is far more than 4 1/2 cups of the flour that you actually have in the recipe. Or did I miss something?

Hello, I so enjoy your videos. Been watching them for weeks over and over lol and last night I got the courage to at least begin my starter.... I woke up this morning excited thinking there was gonna be some kind of rising or bubbling or anything..... And nothing absolutely nothing😫 Please tell me what I did wrong😭 I started with a 1/2 a cup of rye flour and Half a cup of all purpose flour and one cup purified water.... Next I covered it overnight and nothing😫 Help tell me what to do or what I did wrong.

I’ve been milling and ordering from azure for about 5 or 6 years. My oldest daughter now makes all our bread. Would love to hear more about the way you do your starter. We also use starter that we made ourselves years ago when we first started. Very good and strong rise. But would love some fresh ideas! Loved watching y’all’s show! The highlight of our week was when bringing up bates would air.

For the range of motion challenged, you can fudge the prep by using a bread machine to put the ingredients together, letting it mix, rise, punch down and then remove and shape as desired for loaves, rolls etc for final rise. Bake in desired pans. For the economically challenged you can grind your wheat with a coffee grinder IF you take that part slow, pulsing and stopping. Otherwise you'll toast the motor. I used wheat from our certified organic farm. It's so fulfilling to make your own bread! Grinding the grain is the cherry on top. I am drooling over that fabulous grinder tho!

We love this recipe too! I too only have the 5 qt artisan kitchen aid. However I have to hand knead at the end. I tried it in my bosch (bough it to make bread!) and I felt the same as you...it didn't mix it enough. The first time I made this in my Kitchenaid (halved since I know it couldn't handle the full recipe) it went over the top of the dough hook, all up into the spring where it clicks in and under the ring at the top. I was cleaning dough out of there for months. I have never taken it apart to see if it went inside too. I think it did because sometimes dry pieces were falling out. So please don't take the chance! Hand knead for that 9 minutes till you can upgrade.

Thank you so much sharing this as I needed it for so long because I have candidiasis can't have yeast in a whole list of things so I am very thankful and I can have sourdough bread. I appreciate so much you doing it healthy by using fresh whole grain wheat! I have heard other people that use Azure standard! I'm going to try them! I'm so glad that you are doing these things and being a great blessing to your family! Unfortunately it seems like the world has lost respect for being a good wife and a good mother and how important that it is. It's refreshing to see you and Chad doing this and all your family. No greater work than being a wife and a mother! So glad you're cooking with your kids because that is important to! A great time to bond while learning at the same time!

I'm not in a position to purchase a mill or even a power mixer, so can I get the same result using the sprouted wheat flour? And can I use a hand mixer?
