DnD Stories: DEFEAT at Yester Hill!!! (Curse of Strahd, Ep. 24)

Yester Hill is a deceptive large arena in the Curse of Strahd module. Each square represents 150 square feet of space and inexperienced parties of adventurers can easily become separated while exploring. If that wasn’t bad enough, Strahd’s druidic servants and often the vampire lord himself spend much time at Yester Hill. Strahd takes no part in the druidic rituals, but often spends time gazing longingly at an illusion of his homeland that exists in the western wall of fog.

My players nearly wiped here due to the berserkers rising up from shallow graves around them. The party is 6th and has magic weapons. I made the effigy a Gulthias Tree and Strahd's bride Volenta in alliance with the druids was summoning it to full sentience with the winery gem. They finally ended up in retreat with one of them sacrificing himself to Volenta along with the Tome of Strahd. Strahd of course observed.

Just did this encounter over the weekend. Party of 4 level 6s. I'm a Halfling Bard with the Lute of the Bards magic item. I turned invisible and walked right up to the tree. Couldn't figure out what was happening so I used my Pipes of Haunting and feared most of the druids/berserkers. Used the Lute on my next action to fly (dropping concentration on invisibility) and most of them started fleeing. Then we saw the woodlen undead things start popping up. 33 enemies total. All but I of the party surrendered, I kept fighting. I caught a Fireball to the face which lit the tree on fire. It rose up and smashed the arch druid, killing all the little tree demons and the druid. The rest of the druids and berserkers fled. We gained an ally Treant and a level lol
