I have a 2006 GTX and I just replaced the carbon seal. It was the older model tho and now my ski is leaking by just sitting in the water. I’ve replace this before but this one is a first for me. Also the bellows vibrates like crazy when I turn it on outside of the water even for just a second. Guessing my engine needs to be aligned

Its a little late, but is SeaDoo giving any out of warranty goodness for 2019 FishPro premature failures? Mine's got 15 hours and already slinging water and carbon dust.

Let's hope Seadoo have properly engineered and tested this new prop shaft and carbon seal don't want to be a failure like its 2009 2010 prop shafts were.

How about changes to their warranty? My salesperson at Riva Motorsports said Seadoo is trimming the warranty down starting April or May?

@@watercraftjournal Hmm, not about the Seadoo BEST extended warranty plan. They said something along the lines of Yamaha factory warranty is only 1 year so sea doo will be reducing the 3 year factory warranty they currently offer in Florida down to 1 or 2 years (can't rber if they said 1 or 2)

The materials for all Sea-Doos were updated in 2020; the design was updated for all RXP-X and IDF-equipped skis in 2021.

Was the compound changed for the 2020 GTI 170? That’s what I bought and am just curious if it’s upgraded for that particular model or not.... Thanks!

What did Kevin say? That the 2020 models received the latest formula. Only 3 '21 units received the new revised shaft, C-clip and hat.

I am not aware of a carbon seal issue - either when it started or when it was fixed.... When I hear 2000’s for all I know they’ve had a new compound for 5 years I don’t have a clue.... I have a 2020 fish pro and the clip popped off and she sank, Engine full of water took it to shop got engine cleared out and took it for a run and a valve got stuck and boom big puff of white smoke 😢

Hi Kevin, appreciate the info. I also read the article on your site pertaining to the Sea-Doo carbon seals, including the addendum in Aug 2020. I’ve been strongly considering a 2022 GTI SE 130, but the carbon seal makes me nervous. Is there any indication that the situation has improved? I will take care good care of mine, and ride it pretty easy, but I’m still concerned about the misalignment issues. Thanks!

Hi, love the content. Was originally planning to get a fishpro as my first pwc, but all these horror stories about the shaft breaking and getting stuck on neutral put me off. Hope seadoo address/acknowledges this issue and we get updates soon. Would still rather get a purpose built fishing pwc than having to retrofit one. Heck, i wish yamaha would release a fishing pwc of their own.

There's no shaft breakage. There was a small assembly issue with the IDF that was oil-starving the clutch gear. A dealer notice has been issued and repairs are happening currently.

I hope all the carbon seal issues are fixed for 2022. Tons of haters on sea-Doo for the deal problem. Can’t stand the haters. iambeowolf is the worst for it. Question tho. Do u think sea-Doo will ever just got with another design or do what Yamaha does?

Thus far, carbon seal failures have been VERY low for 2021 models. Like surprisingly low. Apparently, the new formulation and tweaks to the design have helped a lot. (Although it would be nice if it was just a sealed bearing.)

It’s a shame people spend good money on these machines then they have to worry about a carbon seal and shaft issue. Who the hell wants to pay cash and or finance something then knowingly have to deal with this issue? I love how the sea-doos look hands down but because of this issue I went with a Yamaha. Consider me a prospective customer that they lost because of this🤷‍♂️ Went with a 2019 Yamaha GP1800.
