Driving Instructor is one job that comes to mind. In fact some driving schools even prefer more matured instructors. One driving school in Adelaide I came across even advertises that all their Instructors are aged above 50.

Interesting.. thanks for the info!

If you can study independently you can skip the education and jump right to certification for far less $. I.T is a good example, certs start around a few hundred and free training is available from youtubers like Professer Messer.

Storeman, forklift driver, process/factory worker. Did all those for many years. Some were great jobs. Other, no so great.

I am turning 50 in about a month. I have been testing the market by applying to jobs here and there but havent had any interview. So i guess when my job ends i will be struggling to get hired at 50. I am thinking of doing a diploma in immigration advice, get licensed and use it as a backup career. Cant think of anything else at this stage 😢

Immigration advice will have no end of customers I bet.

I would say after 50 follow your dreams or your last years will be just surviving and not living. Find things that interest you or even inspire you ...what's the point of putting that off you will run out of time
@AgeBlocked2 ай бұрын
Those jobs are just an ends to a means, which is doing what I enjoy.

@AgeBlocked fair enough. Everyone needs to work out what's best for their specific circumstances

Younger people are more likely to job hop because let's face it , they are seen to have higher " market value" than those above 50 or even 40. A smart employer will figure older workers will be more loyal.
@skyblazeeterno2 ай бұрын
They don't care when they can get the same amount of loyalty from younger people. Sadly we know that companies rarely offer loyalty and you will be discarded when needed

I think employers seem to turn a blind eye to the loyalty aspect as they are already viewing the world through their rose colored glasses.

Here's a suggestion - maybe you could set up a consultancy that ONLY accepts CV's for over 50's and with diversity and inclusion these days spruked by the government and big companies, telstra, qantas etc etc....... you would be the 'go to' business for them to hire over 50's to bump up their diversity KPI's - and you take the 30% commission on the salaries.......... All it would require is web based advertising and people lodge their CV with you and you set up a database then put forward candidates on request..... And you can say that you have 'lived experience' they love that sort of cr@p...... so cash in on it I say....!

Thanks for the idea. Hard to tell how that would go. I know the corps love to talk about equality.... but only talk, not act

Changing Careers after 50 is very difficult unless you have prepared for change for years or you have somebody who will help you and you have great social capital it is very difficult, quite often almost impossible. I would not recommend it to anyone who did not do his homework and is preparing for it for years.
