More than 800 arrested worldwide after FBI secretly set-up encrypted app to catch criminals

Hundreds of people have been arrested around the world after an international police operation which managed to monitor an encrypted messaging platform used by criminal gangs.
In a joint sting, the FBI, Europol and Australian police gained access to the ANOM platform, where they discovered millions of messages exposing the work of crime syndicates, from murder plots to drug smuggling.

Second, you're waaay much more triggered and sensitive than a normal human being should be. Third, I just proved you wrong in my first statement. Yes those things may cost some money but in the long run it will put more into the economy because more people will be working and living in homes and they will be putting money into the economy rather than the pockets of drug dealers. Regulating is fine and all, I am in Canada and we have legalized and regulated Cannabis and yes its been decent but street prices have gone down and is way cheaper than buying from the stores so a good chunk of people still buy illegally. That's not too scary because it's Cannabis and it's for the most part not super dangerous. But more than likely the same thing will happen with all the drugs. This is not just a one solution kind of problem there's many pieces to the puzzle. Even with legalization and regulation it doesn't make it legal to sell it without having a government approved license to do so, so there will still be street dealers it will only shrink the issue. But it is a start.

That said, it sounds from the report like this app was actually pre-loaded to specific handsets and then given out to the criminals, rather than being downloaded from a public store. Offering an app isn’t a set up to commit a too good to be true crime - we gotcha. It’s just a phone. And yes it’s more complicated than that but not by much.
