Jamie Kennedy himself admitted what happened to this film in his Son of the Mask video series on his channel. -His PR team believed that he should do the film while others believed he shouldn't. He felt very nervous about accepting the role at first. His agent told him to do it as he felt it was his big break. -He met Jim Carrey at the Teen Choice Awards and told him about the film along with him being the star. Jim didn't mind, gave him his blessing and told him to have fun with the role. He then told New Line Cinema he was on board. -He didn't want to play Tim Avery, he wanted to be Loki. When they told him about his character, he changed his mind. -New Line Cinema executives had planned a franchise from this film, 4 sequels and a prequel in which Jamie would be in all of them. This was scrapped after the film bombed. -The film was constantly being rewritten throughout production. Jamie had written a lot with his Experiment show writers and the writers of the Dumb and Dumber prequel. -More emphasis was put on the dog and the baby as opposed to Jamie during filming. The shooting period was also short. -The original film was supposed to be like a 2000s Marvel film with some horror elements before the MCU was established. -When it was test screened in front of New Line Cinema themselves, the CEO hated it and forced director Lawrence Guterman to cut it down by half an hour and turn it into a over the top cartoon hence the overusage of cgi. So yeah.

Funny story: I was at the movies and the trailer for Son of the Mask (most likely accidentally) played twice in a row before the feature. When the trailer started playing for the second time a kid went running out of the theater crying. Was just reminded of that incident in light of the main thrust of this review.

Mina Daniels Yeah, Loki is adopted, but that doesn't mean he's NOT his father, in some capacity, ma'am. You DON'T have to have the same blood to be called a family, though It certainly helps. As long as you genuinely love and care about each other, then you CAN be a family, even if you're adopted. I mean, if we can call pets our family and friends, WHY can't it be the same here? Odin rescued Loki as a baby, from the Frost Giants, and wanted him and Thor to get along, which they DO, eventually. I mean, even in the first Avenger's movie, Thor STILL tries to reach out to Loki and tells him that they CAN fix what's going on, together. And in Thor: The Dark World, even though Loki does betray Thor a lot, at the end of the day, he still cares about his brother. And in Ragnarok, Thor has to get help from Valkyrie, The Hulk, AND Loki, to stop their evil sister. He still accepts Loki as a brother BECAUSE even though they're not related by blood, they're family no matter what. Loki even sacrifices himself in the opening of Infinity War, for Thor. So, it doesn't matter if you're blood related or not, family IS family. Have a great day/night, and remember, to stay beautiful, but I'm sure you're a beauty already.

@@rogue7723 some of the Scream movies, Malibu's most wanted and he had his own show called "The Jamie Kennedy Experience" which I think was a bit like SNL. Basically he was a somewhat up and coming comedy guy who got seduced into playing in Son of the Mask which killed his momentum. Sad part being he seemed to somewhat know that the movie was a terrible idea, pulling out until they brought him back with double the money and promised him creative control, along with his friends and agents saying to do the movie. he was originally planned to only use the Mask once at the end with the Baby and Loki being the main characters. But the directors thought he stood out more and gave him more scenes. And by the time they started filming Jamie just hoped the Special Effects could hold the movie up if all else fails.

From what I've heard Carry ended up disliking doing sequels after doing Ace Venture 2. Thus he refused to do Mask 2 and the studio had to scrap their initial plans for Mask 2. The thing that killed this movie however was it was given to an inexperienced screen writer who drew most of his inspiration for it from his experiences raising his newly born child.

It's not even in the same location, not even in the city, not with the same characters, and plus, if you'll remember, at the end of The Mask (aka, the ONLY Mask related anything besides the super violent comics it's based on), Jim Carrey's character throws the mask INTO the river! And also, Jamie Kennedy SUCKS! The Mask is one of my favorite movies, I saw it when I was a little boy, growing up with the movie, and wasn't freaked out when Jim Carrey's character put the mask on. I thought he was hilarious. And I also REALLY liked how pretty Cameron Diaz looked in that movie too. She's still pretty, but she keeps choosing awful movies. I'd love a Mask sequel though, but done right. Not like this non-canon spin-off. Just like Akira Toriyama said Dragonball GT wasn't canon either, and how Dragon Ball Evolution WASN'T Dragonball in ANY way, like pretty much EVERYONE who saw it. Sorry for bringing those up, because you probably don't even know what I'm talking about. Sorry.

I can agree Son of the Mask doesn’t come close to the Mask itself, I personally found a couple things about this film I can appreciate. 1. The song number at the party - It’s very ambitious and I found it mostly entertaining with the different styles it showcased. 2. Loki - I did appreciate the fact they followed up on the mention of Loki with him being the main antagonist. Plus, him being the creator of the mask is a fitting theme.
