Some people are just dicks man. A coworker brought her son of like 9 or 10 to work one day, I offered him a box of biscuits in the staff room and he said something like "don't let my mum near it, she'll empty the whole box", with her standing right there might I add. I really had to bite my tongue, I would never have talked about my mother like that at that age, in front of her or not.

I liked that game (and it was the third movie) but I wish they would've ended the game a little differently. I think it would have been funnier if at the end of the game with Alyssa Milano's character (Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn) ended up with the nameless character the player played as. Peter flirts with Dr. Selwyn the entire game, the Ghostbusters save the world, rescue her, they tell the "rookie" character good work in the "we couldn't have done it without you kid" type of way, Peter asks Ilyssa out again, she turns him down because she has fallen for the "rookie", she and the "rookie" kiss. Then Peter tells him "You're fired," and the "rookie" (who hasn't said a single word the entire game) breaks the kiss with Ilyssa and says "Wait, what?" The End. Roll credits.

The game had a good structure that could be used for a movie. They pretty much got a lot of the fan service references out of the way pretty quick, like Slimer and Stay Puft. It really made a much better sequel to GBI than GBII. It expanded on Gozer's back story and showed a natural progression of their business and equipment. As a kid I loves GB2 more than GB1. Now I cant really watch GB2, but adore GB1.

One of the positive aspects of Ghostbusters II is the fact that it birthed the Bobby Brown song "On Our Own." That song still holds up to this day and was released at a time when Bobby Brown had just released his second album "Don't Be Cruel" the previous year in 1988. The song was super big when it came out and the video(which featured several celebrity cameos) was all over MTV and BET back in the day.

I know reviewing video games aren't really your thing, but how about reviewing the 2009 Ghostbusters video game? It has the original cast reprising their roles and the story ties the two movies together into a coherent narrative and the game brings it all back full circle... Also, the Vigo painting is being kept in the Ghostbusters HQ lobby... if you activate it, it talks, and one of the things it says is a reference to Venkman in the second movie talking about painting a kitten, saying that Vigo wants a kitten... and in the game, the painting basically laments his lack of a kitten...
It was a decent show and I had wished the 2016 movie had been that, or at least like it!!!

Was it Ghostbusters 2 that killed the franchise, or was it actually the cartoon? You guys rightfully had high praise for the cartoon, but seem to forget that the cartoon dipped in quality after the first couple of seasons with some of the re-designs, changes in voice talent, and increased focus on Slimer that went so far they changed the name of the show to Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters. The first couple seasons of the cartoon are indeed brilliant, and really captured the tone, and essence of the characters from the first film. They definitely dumbed it down after the first two seasons, though, and I think that's where Ghostbusters 2 took it cues from unfortunately.

I saw the original Ghostbusters in the theater when I was nine. I thought I was going to see a film with funny people I liked doing funny things. Which I was. But also...right from the beginning I got thrown for a loop with the librarian ghost. I wasn't prepared for how scary it was going to be. Then as the movie went on, the frying eggs scene, the Zuul possession scene, the Vince possession scene, by the time it got to the containment unit explosion I was shaking in fear. I was still willing to stick it out though but I was seeing the movie with a friend and when she said she wanted to leave I didn't argue with her. So we walked out at the "Looks like we're going to put in some over time" scene. A year later when the movie came back around to theaters (they did that then) both me and my friend went to see it again and this time made it all the way through. Then in 1989 I saw Ghostbusters II. I was 14 and found nothing scary about it. But I thought it was legitimately a good movie. Not a great movie. The first movie was a 5 star GREAT movie. The sequel was a 3 or maybe 3 and 1/2 star good movie. I still feel that way. I even went back and saw it for a second time a month later before it left theaters. Yeah I loved Ghostbusters and I found the story in the sequel to be a bit wanting but even with the cast firing on only half cylinders and it being a retread of the first the movie it was enough to make it an entertaining and good enough movie.

Extreme Ghostbusters was actually not as bad as the initial episodes made it look. ...Although, the animation took a few steps back... What I'd say is that if you're looking for some of the most inventive and frankly serious ghosts that ever hit the franchise, go for it! For me, that was the selling point of the show. The ghosts. The four main characters were so-so, yes they develop, but they didn't need to each be a token. Story-wise, they were pretty good there too, EXCEPT for the biggest problem I had with it which was these stories wrapped up with all the damage done being undone. It was roughly the equivalency of Superman's eye beams fixing the Great Wall of China. So, yeah, I'd say give it a watch, it's a very different perspective on Ghostbusters but those endings can spoil it.

I saw Ghostbusters in that order, too. Cartoon in 86, then the movie. Played the cassette tape Side A to Side B, over and over. Then the sequel came out and I got the game on my Commodore Amiga. I gotta say, I always preferred Harold Ramis' deadpan deliveries. It's just so matter of fact, but it's so funny. When you mentioned Winston saying "Always the quiet ones", that whole moment felt like a basketball set up shot, with Ray deflecting Venkman's off-hand comment about sleeping with the slime onto Egon and then he says NOTHING, but his face was priceless and then Winston comes in, as you said and then Venkman finishes it with "You hound", which for me felt like those stand up comedy moments where you deliver the punch line and people are laughing and you tell a slightly less funny follow up punchline to get a second laugh that cuts through the first laugh.

4:42 as a 5 year old when this came out, that tub scene was terrifying. I think something about the build up with the baby being in the safe comfort of his mother, and of course the obvious vulnerability of getting ready for a bath/shower. As an adult, I just wish they revisited the scene. It seems like most people check out when they see the tub fold, but I think that's what makes it feel paranormal or other-worldly. Like, how creepy would it have been to see a normal shot of the bathroom afterward with them investigating, with the porcelain all bent up in some unnatural, impossible way?

It was tough for me to handle so EGB was like a shot in the dark from the past. This series went darker and further into myth/lore that was surprisingly detailed. My favorite episodes were the last 2-3 were the rest of the originals came back and that became my head cannon from then on out. The RGB would eventually retire and this would be the next generation (similar to the Rookie in the game). The best part was that I was about the same age of the new group so that became my team. I could be part of the next generation to carry on the job. Is it the original movie or show? No, nothing is or will be but it holds a special place for me because it proved that the things I loved as a kid could continue on even when it felt like I might not ever see it again.

Extreme Ghostbustersr is pretty good. It has its problems, but it’s pretty fun watching the characters work off of each other, plus they had a few eyebrow raising jokes, especially in the pilot. And some of the creature designs were pretty nightmare inducing. Like the ones that were based on Hellraiser.

Ghostbusters 3 was amazing. They got all of the cast that they could back and expanded the lore as well as tied up loose ends in the other films. It was also great seeing Harold Ramis as Egon one last time before his passing. Getting to see a Slor was neat, as well as the slime from the sequel being explained. Sure, there were some problems, but it was great otherwise, it also gave a lot more of Winston. Learning about how he eventually did earn his PhD in history and a few of his past jobs. The new character 'Rookie' was fun too, despite not having any lines. You can still pick it up on steam right now, I seriously recommend it. Ghostbusters 4 was trash that purposefully jumped into and rolled around in the muck that 2 stepped in accidentally.

I had forgotten that Extreme Ghostbusters even existed, I was so young when it was on. I remember liking it though. I never got to see the original 80s series, as it was before my time. It would probably be amusing to compare the two, as I have a sense that the 90s very 90s.

This is exactly why 'Ghostbusters 2' isn't as good as the original. Because 'The Real Ghostbusters' took the basic premise, ran with it, and tried many different things with what was already established. Granted, it was a 'kids cartoon', but it did have some creepy moments, and having J. Michael Strazinsky as one of the main writers didn't hurt. That being said, the series did get worse as it progressed, but the fact that the cartoon took the franchise forward more so than the movie explains why it would always get picked over the sequel. Also, the fact that the first movie was popular with kids was also the sequel's undoing despite the cartoon's presence.

This weeks NC was A VAST improvement over recent episodes but there is still 1-2 too many long sustained periods where it is just doug walker by himself with no interaction with malcolm or Tamara not going to rant cause it was still a vast improvement but it could be better

"but there is still 1-2 too many long sustained periods where it is just doug walker by himself with no interaction with malcolm or Tamara" Apparently you haven't heard of the staff shortage controversy that happened earlier this year.

What does that have to do with Malcolm and Tamara who have done nc and only nc since 2014 in Tamaras case and longer in malcolms having their screentime noticbly reduced

Oh I don't know something about him being accused of *being mean to his fellow staff members* or something? In all honesty I personally don't believe it's true (...I think), but the controversy DID get bad enough for the team to split up. Sure Malcolm and Tamara are still part of the team... but for how long?

Ray is the adorkable goofy one that you can't help but want to hug, Peter is the sassy/sarcastic one, Egon is the more than a bit eccentric but not demented or evil genius, and Winston is the cool guy, Winston is super chill and laid back while also being a good straight-man while Ray is a big huggable giant kid in an adult body with an extremely high IQ.

The funny thing is, Ghostbusters did the whole "We need more diversity" thing with much better results in the 90s with Extreme Ghostbusters, you had a guy in wheelchair and a female ghostbuster (who was punk) and instead of focusing on that, they just amped up the scary shit and made it Ghostbusters for older kids. It was really good. Edit: So I just reached the part in the video where they talk about it, yeah, I guess all I can say is, give it a chance because it's probably not as bad as you think it might be.

I loved Ghostbusters 2. Yeah, it's weird with the flowing pink goo, a walking Statue of Liberty, a long-haired ancient evil guy from a painting. I like all those things though. Peter MacNichol seems like he was made to play sidekick parts. He was great in this and in "Dracula: Dead and Loving It".

Oh and I forgot to say Extreme Ghostbusters is not a bad cartoon at all in might’ve felt that way during the 90s when you first saw it but if you look back at it now on Hulu which they have the entire series the show is a lot of fun and probably much more scarier than the original series with the Og ghostbusters with bigger threats and more grotesque designs and the characters Kylie Griffin, Roland Jackson, Garrett Miller and Eduardo Rivera are all very interesting and unique characters in my opinion and they all work off each other really well in reality if Sony wanted to do another ghostbusters it should have been like this passing the torch to a younger generation similar to force awakens hell if they wanted to have female ghostbusters in a sequel they should of went with Kylie in my opinion even Janine Melnitz since they both work with each other in the comics or even those two and Dana Beret she would of been an awesome twist for the film series as a character who’s been through a ton and maybe became fed up with being a damsel in distress when dealing with the paranormal but any ways like you guys should check extreme ghostbusters it’s worth a rewatch

I'm in the same boat as you guys are when it comes to Extreme Ghostbusters. I haven't watched it since it originally aired in the late '90s. It never aired in reruns in the 2000's, we've never gotten a DVD release here in North America. They got one overseas, but, we've never gotten one here, so aside from TV recordings on KZbin or DVDrips from the overseas DVD release, I haven't had access to it since it originally aired. So I guess you guys could give it a try, but it'd be risky because I honestly don't remember if it was good or not.

Funny you should mention Jeanine from The Real Ghostbusters, cause by the time Ghostbusters 2 came out her character was completely destroyed due to network meddling. They turned a tough, sarcastic and interesting character into a boring motherly character. Also, by the time Ghostbusters 2 came out, the cartoon was also in decline also due to network meddling. As for Extreme Ghostbusters, the characters may look like tokens at first glance, but do have distinct personalities. Also, despite the title, it is a very good and at times creepy show.

1) the 2009 game is essentially the third film. Pretty solid. I dug it. 2)Extreme Ghostbusters is really creepy, in all the best ways. I think Doug & Rob would dig it, honestly. 3) You want good modern Ghostbusters, READ THE IDW COMIC. Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening GET IT. They not only are faithful to the characters but expand the world and lore exponentially. Hell, it's SO GOOD, they crossed over with the female team and made the whole team likable instead of just Kate McKinnon.

I've been think for a while on what movie I'd really like to see your "real thoughts" on. And, as somewhat of a surprise to me, I think I've settled on "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". Hear me out on this. It was the first review I watched that I didn't like at all, but then came back to a few weeks later b/c of how it changed my thinking on movies. I like that movie a lot, which is why the review took some time to persuade me. It's hard to articulate...but the review helped me identify something I'd never been able to name...effects for the sake of effects, long lingering shots just b/c you can...sort of an imitation of artistry without the artistry itself. Kubrick lite, in a sense. A type of artistic sophistry or psuedointellectualism. Anyway...I think there's good material there for a "Real Thoughts" episode. A hard look at movies trying to imitate art without being art, and that are revealed as such as soon as you bother to scratch away the surface.

Have you ever read the IDW Ghostbusters series? It's kind of amazing. They go through lengths to tie everything Ghostbusters together and they actually do it well! And when I say everything I mean video games, the original movies, and even the 2016 movie. Edit: Actually now that I think about it, everything but the cartoons. Sorta anyways. Kylie Griffin plays a big role in it as a major sporting role but she's moreso a unique version of the same character.

It took me quite a while to get over my Nostalgia goggles with Ghostbusters 2. Especially being that the 1st Ghostbusters is my favorite movie. But yeah once you get rid of Nostalgia, Ghostbusters 2 is a very average movie and the more you dive into it the more wasted potential you see. I didn't even know people dislike the movie until I got older. And I think since I had the cartoon at the time which was insanely good even with its limited animation, and all the other Ghostbusters merch I had, that I was just fulfilled with whoever I got from Ghostbusters 2. I also think the Extreme Ghostbusters is very underrated. Like you said it is very 90s in how its setup but once you get past a few episodes you start to see how much fun they start having with all the ideas of the show. All the new characters do become more than their stereotypes and the intro theme song is just so dope. Also for me my third Ghostbusters came in form of the Ghostbusters video game that was on last generation consoles. All the cast returned to do voice acting and the story had a really good advancement to it. But yeah good video and hopefully Sony does figure this Ghostbusters thing out or just leave it alone for good. The comic books do just enough to keep it going for me. And I wouldn't mind seeing a remaster of the Ghostbusters game.

Then I remembered I had seen that as a child and it gave me nightmares . I had forgotten why and don’t even remember it being from Ghostbusters. I can’t believe something as stupid as that gave me a phobia I had issues with till college. Gosh toddler me was stupid. XD

You ever notice that they saved most of the special effects for the finale of ghostbusters 2? But the first one had them sprinkled throughout. Like in this one, they had the ghosts in the courtroom scene, but like Vigo is basically a cheap green screen effect. In the first, there is the ghost in the library. Slimer, the BJ ghost, etc. basically building up to Gozer and Stay Puff. They clearly put more money in the first. Again I want someone to make a fan edit on Rob's and Dougs idea to fix the movie and add in the good parts of the Reboot.

Extreme Ghostbusters, despite it's 90's packaging, was pretty decent & surprisingly ahead of it's time. They actually focused more on the characters & story. Sadly, for reasons unknown, the show kinda fizzled out... funding maybe. I won't spoil anything for you guys, but I definitely think y'all should check it out if you can. By the way, tremendous fan of your work. You guys, the others at Channel Awesome please keep up the good work... So entertaining!

There was a scene where they showed them moving back into the firehouse, the sign had holes in it from people throwing rocks at it and the place was in disarray, just like the first one though so I imagine that’s why they cut it. It always bothered me that we didn’t see the containment unit in this one, they would’ve had to rebuild it and probably made it bigger or look more like the one in RGB, which they explained in an episode and showed them coming back to the firehouse after the fight with Gozer. Citizen Ghost is the episode I believe.
