The Power Rangers fandom is actually pretty split on the movie. To enjoy Power Rangers, you have to like the cheese and the fun factor, but some people take the plots of the existing show super seriously, and find the movie's attempt to boy it up as offensive to the spirit of the original. They want simple sleek Zord designs, and gymnasts in spandex. They hate the idea of this movie. Others look forward to seeing Power Rangers on a big budget, with new designs, and a serious story. We still want some of the cheese. We still want it to be fun. We still want to messages of teamwork and camaraderie that are prevalent in the show to be there. We're not exactly excited, but you could describe up as cautiously optimistic.

Personally I want it to be an absolute cheeseball that takes itself seriously but in a kind of adorable way. Basically completely sentai. I grew up watching some of the first few series of Power Rangers (MM, Light Speed, Wild Force), if it has those central elements I'll probably dig it.
@buck3424438 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of problems the fans are having with the new movie is how far they have strayed away from the original show, like I'm all for a more mature take on the Power Rangers lore but why the Michael Bay style designs for the suits and the Zords? Why does Goldar look like a big pile of melted cheese? Why be so transparent that Rita is a former green ranger? Where are the rest of Rita's henchmen? How can you call them Putties when their not even made out of clay? Where in the blue hell is Bulk and Skull? As a fan I really wish I could get excited for the movie but the more I see the more apprehensive I become, it just doesn't look or feel like Power Rangers to me.
@MelMelodyWerner8 жыл бұрын
buck342443 Well if the movie disappoints, there are Power Ranger comics that are really good now from BOOM! Studios that are much more traditional. And I think if it's more dark and gritty, that defeats the whole point of Power Rangers to me as they were always delightfully over the top and cheesey. The trailer I saw didn't really give me a gritty vibe, more like they're pandering to what they think teenagers are like, like the Jem movie. "They're just holograms like a video game!" (which makes no sense if it's supposed to be modern day, feels like they just wanted to name-drop video games for some reason) To be fair, that's sort of what old Power Rangers did (albeit for the 90's), but if the trailer's representative of the film, I don't think they really get Power Rangers or actual teenagers are.

While we should all try to decrease our carbon footprint, saying it's regular people's fault for global warming is just factually wrong. However, it's pretty hypocritical of them to try and appear anti-corporation when it's so corporately made and has dozens of corporate tie-ins.

I actually thought Hipster Onceler was kinda cool. It shows that anyone, even silly hipsters, can become consumed by greed and can become just as corrupt as the very corporations they frequently demonize. Of course, the rest of the movie seems to ignore that and become its own thing, but just the way the Onceler was portrayed stuck out to me as slightly profound.
@evanbao937 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I have a soft spot for the Lorax film mainly because I saw a lot of potential in the new ideas they have. Like the Onceler being a regular person slowly being corrupted into this corporate executive. Or Thneedville being this bubble city where everyone is blinded by consumerism to the societal ills. If only they could have gone a bit further and more subtly. Maybe that's why I tend to be more softer to flawed films. As someone who loves making art, I see potential in a lot of things.

The Lorax was a poor translation of the book. Its a bad version cuz it focused on the kid and not the Oncelers tale. I do appreciate the different ending. Its not the bleak and thoughtful ending of the original. It tried to reflect how we have tried, as a whole, to be more conscious of the environment. its hopeful. Its the one thing I think they did right. Aside from castimg DeVito
@ToonReel0016 жыл бұрын
Having a happier ending that fulfilled the 'Unless' I will take as a necessary evil since it's very hard to have a kids movie with a sad ending even with the book's ray of hope. Besides that part isn't what goes too against the message of the original, it just shows what can happen if the audience cares more about the environment.

I like childhood franchises of my time to be serious, but also remembering why it appeals to kids. You can have both. "Pokémon - I Choose You!" is a great example for me. At its core, it's a mature story but also has that whimsical nature and fun that you've come to expect from children shows. That's why I always wanted any big feature length of Pokémon to be based on that episode. And now I got my wish this year.

I will state this, and defend it to the end. But the live action adaptation of the Grinch, was a good movie. It did suffer from the choices which would plague any movie, but as a story which follows the book it is decent. And actually has a better narrative than the old movie did. The moment by moment scenes were not as good, and yes the visuals could have been brighter and more colorful, but the overall is worthy of its namesake. And if you're wondering how I could say that it has a better narrative, it is because it actually says that there is a reason for the Grinch to hate Christmas, it may screw that up with the following line, which is a product of being based off a book, but it lays out reasons why he would dislike Christmas and moreso, why he would live where he lives.

Maybe I'm weird but honestly I adore the lorax. To me its a wonderful film that I still watch very often as well as horton hears a who. I feel like the way it was told was very amusing. Even though I feel like most of its flaws came with the advertising showing the lorax as a corprate tool instead of an (sort of) omnipresent entity. Now Ive never actually seen the first lorax but I know it was made in the seventies where people's mindset was different and most things weren't done at the drop at a hat. To me this movie speaks to me because the oncelr is just a young-adult focused on proving himself to be part of his family. And you can see that he changes because of his enviormient (who he interacts with and who he speaks to). It also shows that everyone is affected by peer pressure. The oncelr being the one who gives in and succombs (albeit easily) because he thinks that if he's really the bad guy the lorax would stop him. But, its really him not stopping and saying (am what I'm doing is right?) Because essentially it feels (to me) that it makes more sense to show that in his success he hasn't stopped not once to see the after effects of anything hes done and honestly I can relate. Getting so caught up in something I feel is right until I find out it isnt. Now I understand that people gripe about the film being mostly about ted. But this film shows that the sins of the past passed down can be resolved and it isnt a instant fix. Sure the action is but in the end when ted knocks down that wall and shows the townspeople really whats going on that sitting down and being self-destructive will not help. It also shows that ted isn't okay with knowing and not doing. Even when o'hare threatens him he stands for his beliefs and even though its a difficult thing to do he doesn't get enough credit. Thats what I love about the song let it grow. If you really listen to it, like really sit down you feel the emotion. (Or atleast I do) you can see where the townspeople are apprehensive. Leaving the comfort of bottled air to going back to trees. Its really when o'hare shows his true nature that they're like 'holy crap. That's not what we need. Thats not what we need at all!' And they just shoo him off (which is kinda off but whatever animated film). But, anyways to wrap this up I honestly genuinely feel like this movie should get some more credit its probably not amazing for its predessor but it shows the effects people and choices have on everyone. (Free will is a thing but also being swept up in the moment is too and I don't think that people actually appreciate how human these characters really are. I mean the townspeople lived in a bubble where it was always fun and amazing and to have that knocked down and show how shocked and naive they really were is a true testamate) Its not about the lorax smiting you for destroying trees its about you making the conscious decision to WAKE UP before its too late and I don't think everyone sees that.

Just because we think the Grinch film is hilarious and cool, doesn't mean we can't appreciate the original source material (the classic chuck jones grinch cartoon) for what a charming, nostalgic seuss story it is. Don't go thinking we don't understand the meaning behind the old one Doug and Rob ^^

"Boy, I was born to be alive checking on Tumblr and see all of the Hyper Fangirls jizzing to a remade fictional character in a Dr. Seuss animated movie adaptation of THE LORAX." I kind of wish I can say that without any shame. I was not to fangirl, but I was shocked at Universal attempting a "hot" Once-Ler mask reveal character and boom in shockingly FUN fanart and gifs. And thanks to your review, you gave birth to Hyper Fangirl, which oddly is one of the most annoyingly ENJOYABLE NC characters occur into your reviews. The Lorax movie is something I do not want to see, but I sort of one too, just to appreciate the design of environments and characters, even though its trying to hard to be "cool" while carrying that message.... And its just only a try-hard advertisement movie. Funny that I had about close to no passion left to even finish that Lorax fanart I did (which was going to be that colorful yet edgy look) because at the end of the day: Its just a fad. But... It was nice while it ran (especially the cosplays). So if I do plan to watch it full and uncut... I would have that same feel as you guys. Thanks for a no-spoiler-free review. B)

@OXXOI777778 жыл бұрын
In response to Rob's question about power rangers ("is this what you want?")....I may be in the minority, but no, it absolutely is not. The whole dark/gritty thing is completely contrary to the nature of Power Rangers is. The new movie only shares superficial connections to the appeal that the TV sow had. As far as I can tell, it looks like Hollywood just turning another crank on the proven, predictable gritty-reboot machine using the Power Ranger IP (and the nostalgia associated with it) as fuel.
