I feel when Tommy Lee Jones said "I do not approve of your buffoonery" I guarantee that it was because when the cameras stopped rolling TLJ was a straight faced professional and JC was off somewhere talking to some of the crew with his butt.

I think if Tommy Lee Jones acted more gangsterish then Two Face would have been a way better character in Batman Forever, i mean he didnt need to try to upstage Jim Carrey, since Jim Carrey has his style and i heard its somewhat not too inaccurate to some adaptations of the Riddler from the comics either

I literally watched this film on Netflix before right you posted the review lol perfect timing right? But I agree, I was actually surprised by this film in some parts.. like, I was kinda disappointed that you guys never talked about the scene where Robin see's his dead parents from the rooftop. _It was actually handled really well!_ Robin doesn't say anything there's no lame _"Noooooooo!!!!"_ scream it's just him acting with his face & looking devastated _while_ Bruce stares up at him. It was actually kind of powerful.. Bruce is literally watching this kid go through what he went through ..there's no cheesy dialogue just Bruce Wayne watching as another obsessed vigilante is born right before his eyes.

Joel Schumacher wanted like a "serious/goofy" Batman. But he also wanted some serious and dark tones thingies. The movie had a scene where a Giant Bat appeared in front of Bruce Wayne and remembered who he was, but it was deleted because the studio told him it was "scary and not fit for kids".

The behind the scenes stuff surrounding this movie is pretty interesting. In fact, the tie in novel for this film shows promise of an actually good storyline with a much more coherent story, additional scenes that help flesh out the characters (the first chapter alone tackles a young Bruce Wayne struggling with the guilt of his parents death, a young Eddward beginning his obsession with Bruce Wayne and then finally, to cap off the prologue, Batman meetingg with Harvey Dent and giving his word he keep him out of harms way), and even completely different and alternate scenes (for example, Batman isn't the one who takes down Two-Face... And his death is absolute poetic Justic, not just for Harvey but Robin as well, all with final coin toss.)

I like to give Dark Knight Rises a pass because that wasn't the film Nolan wanted to make. Supposedly he wanted to do something with Joker and Riddler, but then Ledger died and he couldn't do that any more. So he rewrote the whole last film. So with that in mind, it's no wonder it was found lacking.

@gamemediafan1714
@gamemediafan1714 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, the studio wantes the third film to he with the riddler, and pushed for Leonardo Decaprio to play the part. They wanted this because of the success with Ledger's Joker. However, Nolan didn't want to just repeat the last film. He said that if he was gonna do a final film he wanted a villain who was different from the other two films. So we got Bane and Catwoman, who were actually the best parts of the film. I loved what Anne Hathaway and especially Tom Hardy do with their performances. They're so into what they're doing, and it isn't like Christian Bale where it makes his Barman performance totally ridiculous. It's a kind of effort where you just love to watch them. I wish that Catwoman had more screentime as she didn't get that much time in the film. Bane I found was well-done. Like the Joker every line he says is really quotable from start to finish, mainly because it's delivered so well. I dunno i like what Nolan ended up doing with the villains, except for Talia Al Ghul. So many parts of that reveal scene have plot holes. How did she get all the way from the pit to her father? Last time I heard the League of Shadows base was PRETTY FUCKING FAR. Also how was Ra's al ghul able to go down the pit if it was the prison of a warlord? Wouldn't there be risk of capture or something?

To be fair to the Robin suit, it's based on Tim Drake, the at the time the film came out current Robin, and probably the best Robin suit aside from Damian Wayne's, who is, as of the time I posted this, the current Robin. It's also what the Animated Series based Dick's costume is based on. Really just a good looking suit, plus Robin gets pants.

I read his interview on the Batman Forever behind-the-scenes book and he talked about it. And I also read his interview in a 1995 magazine on how he met with Tim Burton on the set of The Lost Boys, because Burton was preparing Beetlejuice, and he asked Joel Schumacher if he can borrow the same production team that worked on The Lost Boys to work on Beetlejuice. KE-KE Network no he isn't. That a click bait title. The real story is this. Flashpoint is the last movie that will have Batman for a few years, Matt Reeves are prequel movies. So It comes down to if he wants to do younger Batman, but look at WB casting list, he is firmly on there. They offered him to direct while not in the kowl he didn't want to as he felt he would be too distracted. He has said many times he LOVES playing Batman but he won't be suiting up after Flashpoint for a while

Batman Forever is kind of a mixed bag for me. I like how Bruce decides to be Batman not because he feels guilt based around being unable to save his parents as an eight-year-old, but because he wants to help Gotham be a better place. Taking away that tortured aspect of his character does kind of remove part of what makes him Batman, but it is neat that Schumacher decided to take him in a different direction from how he's usually portrayed. That said, Bruce's decision is completely at odds with his inability to keep Two-Face off the streets due to just not pursuing him at all, making no attempt to stop any of Riddler's crimes before the finale, briefly giving up being Batman so he could get laid, and the fact that he's killing criminals left and right until he just randomly decides to stop after Two-Face (unless you count him more or less convincing Freeze to kill Ivy in the sequel). The less said about the villains, Robin, and Chase the better.

This might actually be my favorite of your Real Thoughts/Sibling Rivalry videos. I was 3 when this movie came out but wasn't allowed to see it til I was around 7 or 8 ish and I loved it. Now that I'm 28, there's things in the film I still think are good and entertaining. As a whole, it's not "good" but it's not "bad" either. Me and my sister and cousins watched this movie a lot as kids. I agree with a lot of what you and Rob both say about this film though. The making of the all four films is actually kinda fascinating when you think about it. But the number one think that I agree with is what you guys said what Kevin Smith said about having a younger Robin. Chris O'Donnell was fine in Forever, don't get me wrong. But imagine if they did get the kid from Terminator 2. But like Rob said, Kevin Smith is dreaming. There's no way WB would've done it. They would've been too scared to piss off whiny parents. Especially after Batman Returns, which I seen at age 7 and was fine. Though it scared my little sister lol. Anyways, I went on longer than I should've but I still love the movie. Mostly as a guilty pleasure.

Batman Forever, while it has a ton of problems, will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was the very first Batman film I saw in the theater, and it's what got my obsession with Batman started. Yes, the film is very flawed, but the stuff that works, REALLY works. Such as Robin's arc and the art direction ( though I will agree it doesn't fit in a Batman film). Overall, I really enjoyed BF, as I will Batman and Batman Returns. A solid trilogy of films in my eyes. Batman and Robin, on the other hand......

I first saw Tim Burton's Batman when I was 4 and I loved every minute of it. Looking back I remember thinking the Joker killings were either cool action (Think about the future!) or funny (the 10000 volt handbuzzer) so I guess I was a messed up kid. But this was my first exposure to Batman and became my standard for what was a great superhero and a good superhero film. So I loved the animated series, cried during Batman Returns, didn't care for the Schumacher films even as a kid when others did, and liked the Dark Knight trilogy.

It made the same mistake a lot of bad 90's movies made, it was trying to make wacky 90's cartoon humor work with live action. It just doesn't work. They have to decide if its going to be a wacky cartoon with wacky humor or an action movie, it can't be both. If this movie with the same plot was an animated movie, it would probably have been a good movie.

opinions may differ on this, but for me I'd quite like to see a movie based in the world of Batman Beyond. I'm 39 episodes into the series and I'm honestly quite surprised that a Hollywood based studio can release a show that combines cyberpunk with Batman and yet doesn't think to make a live action movie out of it (preferably one with a director who can get it right)

it would be but that's not their only good option; honestly one of the best things they can do is hire someone different who can either impersonate Kevins portrayal of Bruce Wayne perfectly, or get someone who can add their own flavour to the character without ruining it, kinda like J.K Simmons did with J.Jonah Jameson in the Spider-man movies

Nice vid, guys. Just one minor quibble, though...from interviews with Joel Schumacher (on the "special edition" DVD released in 2005), apparently he had barely any creative control over Batman & Robin. The studio liked how much Batman Forever raked in, so they demanded "MORE OF THAT, PLEASE" from Schumacher. He actually wanted to make a darker Batman film as the next installment, but the studio insisted on more kid-friendly schlock as well as making the film more "toyetic." Schumacher recalls (from what I remember) that many costumes and props (vehicles included) ended up unfinished or shoddily thrown together because the studio would immediately rip the blueprints from under his nose to send to the toy company before his crew had a chance to finish construction. So, yeah, there was a lot of odd design choices by Schumacher, but a lot of it was encouraged by the people in charge at WB who had no idea how to create a creatively satisfying film, only toy commercials. And even then, they couldn't even manage that. I don't know what a darker Schumacher Batman movie would have been, but if we ended up with something like The Lost Boys, maybe we could have had something at least decent that wouldn't have killed the superhero genre for a brief time.

I grew up with Batman Forever and loved it. I was 5 when it came out, so it is dear to me (it was a major part of my earliest birthday party that I can remeber). I always still preferred the Burton films (which I had recorded off the TV at the same time so I was not ignorant of them), but Forever was really just a different flavor and not a bad flavor. I was also big into the Animated Series and the 1969 series at the same time, so really I appreciated the franchise as an all-encompassing universe and not as one "true" version with inferior imitations (that's a game for adult fans and not for children). That said, even though I wasn't really old enough for Batman & Robin to viscerally offend me when it came out, I knew that it wasn't that good. Looking back on Forever now, I still like it (especially the Bat-vehicles) and that probably will never change.

This movie, funny enough, was actually the very first ever live action Batman movie I saw growing up in the 90s. I did see it in the theaters when it came out. I was already watching the animated series, and I did see Mask of the Phantasm as well, but I hadn't watched either of the Burton movies before this one. Only after seeing this, did I then watch the Burton movies and then realized they were both better than this one. Batman Forever does hold a special place in my childhood, but now that I'm older, it's still pretty bad. I'm not gonna deny that. Not Batman and Robin bad, but still bad compared to those before it and those after it. I'm so glad you guys reviewed it, I've been wanting to see what you guys thought about it for a long time. Thank you! :)
