It was the first year I was alone during the holidays. I took Mrs. Walker's advice. I spent Christmas with other people who were alone. We spent the next Christmas together too. They moved away after that, but we still keep in touch. Because of her advice I made friends that have lasted for about 6 years now, and I've never been alone for a Christmas. Y'know.... it's funny. As soon as Rachel mentioned the F bomb I was like "But I haven't really heard him say it in a while..." Then I started to think more about that. That's how you prove a point. Declare it after it's been proven, not beforehand as if it's some grand thing. There are people that would try to bring you down for it. I'm hyped for the new office though, seeing as it tends to play into skits and such and can't help but wonder if this was a one time thing or if Rachel is back. As far as the touching ending goes, the emotion put into the simple line of "Let's watch it again" says far more than I could ever say. I resonate with that moment every Christmas. I don't "know" what you're going through, but I can understand it, my friend. My grandmother was the rock of our family. I have some pretty crappy childhood memories, but none of them are from when I was at her house. I even look back on the moments I got in trouble fondly, and one moment when I was being a total brat, with everlasting shame. It was the one time in my life I behaved like that. Whenever my family got together, it was because of her. She drew people in. Our very large (including my mom, she had 9 kids) family especially came together during Christmas. She owned several properties around her own home she would occasionally rent out, but they were there for when everyone came home. We lost her when I was in high school, some 18 years ago, throat cancer. Her absence is really felt during Christmas, even more so with her birthday just passing on the 16th. Sometimes I catch my mom caught up in a moment where I know she's reliving a memory, or wishing she was here and the only thing I can do then is mention something from the past and let her tell stories while I sit and listen. ...Thank you. True to the message of the video, you never know what inspires someone and how. But you've made me consider something I haven't before.
@jhonsmith50936 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the moment they said it I was trying to think of an F-bomb drop in a recent review and I couldn't. Then the end happened and, wow, not only was I right, but that was really clever. Would the following movies please take note... on second thought, the list will be shorter if I list the movies that do not need to do that. 1. John Wick series. 2. (most) Marvel Movies. 3... Thanks for making me cry reading this, lol. Very touching. I'm finally getting to see my older brother and grandmother this Christmas for the first time in over a decade. My grandmother is 78 and hasn't seen at least my older brother in two decades. I don't think we've told her our older brother will also be here. I ruined the surprise of my older brother arriving for my mom (it just slipped out, I flat forgot that my younger brother wanted to keep it a secret!) but I think my grandmother doesn't know. I say she's the one who is getting the best surprise because my older brother almost never calls here...for whatever reason. So now, they'll be able to just talk in person. I'm hoping nothing goes wrong as we've had some hiccups with all the planning but this weekend will finally reveal the fruits of our labor and have most of the family together.

The end hit me hard. i was watching the review with his parents a few days ago and thought "yeah that was charming" and then i read the comments, where people said their sorry for dougs lost and so on, and i felt very sad after it, without knowing her... and now this ending was totally unexpected and left me in tears. the whole family is there, doug, rob, their father and the many friends they made over the years... and they are talking about the "special" and so on, and then its the speach of his mother combined with dougs very, very heartwhelming "lets watch it again" - i think this was the very first time in all nostalgia critic, where i felt there was the real doug. not overacting, not saying something scripted, just 100% what he felt. it really left me in tears. i hope you feel well, walker family. merry christmas to you.

If I remember correctly, the director of Nutcracker 3D grew up in Russia during the real WWII and its aftermath, and one of his few consistently happy childhood memories was The Nutcracker. That still doesn't explain why he thought this would be a good way to discuss Nazism OR The Nutcracker. In fact, it kind of just leaves me with more questions than before.
@joyunicycle5 жыл бұрын
If he wanted to include it, he could have started the movie with the real world set in WW2 with the children evacuated with their uncle Albert to America (since that's what Einstein did). Then the dream world would be her fantasy escape until facing the rats, ending with the fairy telling her to not give up hope as she's waking up to Christmas Day. She finds a note from her parents telling her and Max that they're coming to America soon.

There are many strange adaptations of The Nutcracker. (The best adaptation was the live ballet at the Riverside Community College performing theater in 2015) Disney tried to be experimental with The Four Realms which had little to do with the story at all, there's a Care Bears adaptation, and The Nuttiest Nutcracker is one of the weirder ones.

As Russian myself, i must provide some context and explain, why there is so many russian comments under this video. There is one famous family in Russia - Mihalkovs. Most known are Sergey Mihalkov (he is dead now), his son Nikita Mihalkov and his brother Andrey Konchalovsky (He just taked his father's wife surname, and he is autor of this horrible version of Nutcracker). They are was beloved talanted directors and writers in the Soviet times, wich films and other creations was very popular in the Soviet Union (For example, Sergey Mihalkov was autor of the USSR/Russian hymn). But when Soviet Union collapsed, they are showed their true nature as hypocrite sycophants and sneaky trimmers. Their films and books was produced in USSR with huge help and offitial support from communist goverment, but those guys started to screaming about "horrors of Stalin's regime" and licking Eltsyn and Putin asses. It would be not so terrible at all (besides, such hypocrite behaviour is common among russian "creative class", and their example is not unique), but they are started to produce really shitty films, screaming about their "unique vision", when it was just over pretentious antilogical stupid crap with cheap and horrible CGI, poorly imitaiting Hollywood films. And each time, when their films crap meet finance fail and negative rewievs in the Internet (expetially well-known KZbin reviews from blogger BadComedian, incuding NutCracker), this brothers usually screaming in their intervievs, that they are genius, and all russian people are just stupid redneks, who can't understand their unique vision. That's why they are so despicable among russians.

If this does take place in the 20s it gets darker cause this means the girl had a prophetic dream of Nazis and genocide. A FAMILY PICTURE!
@blondbraid79866 жыл бұрын
I feel like they got the whole concept backwards, many kid's stories feature a kid entering a dreamworld where they fight monsters symbolizing the problems in their real world, and the film would have made so much more sense if the girl was living under nazi occupation and reality was bleak while her dreams were colorful and whimsical and the rat king was a symbol of the real world threat of nazis rather than making it the other way around, but Nutcracker 3D shows the 20's Europe as a fun and happy place while the kids imaginations are full of random horror for no reason.

I like how they changed the music in the credits. i mean imagine if they didn't. like after that emotional calm scene of everyone sitting together and after the tribute for doug's mom it just cuts to the normal rock music that plays in the end credits of every nostalgia critic video. that was very smart of them.

If home alone gets remade, they should have Macaulay Culkin either be the guy with the Tommy gun or the pizza boy
@crazycomicguy50634 жыл бұрын
Or as the father or one of the family members, or even as old man Marley
@mrcritical67514 жыл бұрын
They’re now actually remaking it, the kid who played Yorkie in Jojo Rabbit is in the lead and Ellie Kemper and Rob Delany are the villains, no word on a Culkin cameo though

Watching this again now is very surreal because my mom passed away suddenly about a month ago. We didn't always see eye to eye and would argue a lot... but seeing the message from Mama Critic broke me. It made me analyse the relationship I had with mom and while we disagreed I can safely say she loved me immensely. I miss her daily but I'll forever cherish the time I did get with her. Thank you Channel Awesome for helping me find a little bit of peace just now.

This makes the Barbie version of The Nutcracker seem like it should have gotten an Oscar. At least they tried to make the source material apparent. The score was well constructed and kept the beauty of the traditional pieces. The Sugar Plum Princess was even accompanied by surprisingly great dance choreography. They also did a good job keeping it family friendly and brought in some sweet, Christmas-appropriate themes. Finally, the main cast had at least some personality. Not my favorite movie, but it did a number of things better than this take.

I don't know about you, but I would like it if the Critic reviewed at least one of the Barbie movies. They're actually pretty good for what they are. They could've been like the original My Little Pony, just bland advertising for toys. But they actually cared about the product. Obviously, they're not amazing, but they are made with quality in mind. They're also very nostalgic films for me, so I'd want Nostalgia Critic to clear up any rose colored glasses I might be looking through.

@@bluelfsuma I agree with you. The Barbie movies are not film masterpieces, but they actually put a good amount of thought and effort into them considering they are advertised as "children's movies." I grew up with them, so I would like to see a more neutral review of them from an adult perspective too. My favorites were Nutcracker, 12 Dancing Princesses, Rapunzel, Swan Lake, Princess and the Pauper and The Three Musketeers. Which titles would you like him to consider?
@bluelfsuma5 жыл бұрын
Sarah Taylor I watched and loved pretty much all the Barbie movies. But, if I had to choose favorites, it would definitely be the Fairytopia series and Swan Lake. If the Critic only reviewed one Barbie movie, he should review Swan Lake.

@@sarahtaylor4264 I was really a fan of Princess Charm School, 12 Dancing Princesses, and Princess and the Pauper. Maybe one day he'll pick up an interest in reviewing one of these movies.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the barbie fairy tale movies. I'm not going to say they're all masterpieces. I'm guessing the animation hasn't aged well and some of the dialogue is corny. But they introduced me to fairy tales I'd never heard of before at a young age (Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Rapunzel.) And were faithful to the source material (or at the very least made understandable changes to keep it kid friendly...since I'm pretty sure Odette dies in the original Swan lake...)
