Here in Canada, we are only getting the ID.4 with the 82kWh (77kWh usable). That charging session was really impressive as after 30 minutes, you already have a lot of kWh to do another 200-250km. After driving 300km, you need to take a pause so a quick charge of 30 minutes and boom (50kWh added), you can drive again 2-3 hours.

The new Mercedes EQS can add 200-300 km in 15 Minutes and has a range (WLTP) of 770km!! At least that is what they state, the car is not officially out yet so there are no Real World tests. If that is true, the car has absolutely zero disadvantages over a fossil car. The future is electric and the future is pretty cool.

I would like to see charging sessions for different cars where you show the range vs time. 5,10,15,20,25,30 min etc and the respective range from different start point. For instance one curve for 10% start, another for 20% start etc and the time i takes to charge 50,100,150 km etc. Thats the kind of calculations you seem to make on trips and it could just be a table or graph you can look at for each car. For instance if you arrive at a 150 KW charger with id.4 at 10% battery - and you have 150 km before you arrive at the destination where you can charge overnight - for how long do you have to charge? And if the car was and EQC - how long will that one take etc....

Conspiracy warning: Is it possible that the German manufacturers in a consortium are agreeing to these equal but different metrics? Seems to be certain use cases for each vehicle, but overall very similar range per charging time..? (Of course the suggested possibility of VW enabling 170kw would give the MEB vehicles a big edge in this equation.)
@yt_tdb3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bjorn, I have an ID3 with 58kw battery and VW recommends charge state between 20% and 80%. Tesla uses 90% limit and Audi recommends 25-80% charge state. Why doesn't vw follow tesla's example? Tesla has more expierence with batteries so why not? (Sometimes they both use LG battery cells)
@tzarcoal10183 жыл бұрын
"Why doesn't vw follow tesla's example? Tesla has more expierence with batteries so why not? (Sometimes they both use LG battery cells)" Ehhmm, not so simple, there is much more going on, the chemical composition of the cells, the battery managment etc etc, just becuse they share one supplier(out of many other) does not mean their battery packs the same way. Aslo with Lithium cells, the basic rule is, too low bad, too high bad, i don't know why why Tesla says nothing against low state of charge. In General you can see that, that Tesla is a bit more carefree with therir approaches, like those crazy high peak volatages.

You can do the calculation yourself. You know the net battery size, you know at what percentage they throttle below 50 kWh charging speed, and you can now roughly calculate the numbers for yourself 😀
@TheAShkins3 жыл бұрын
@@danedane6613 yes, of course, but we still need some other parameters, like the Voltage of the battery pack, the maximum Ampers the charger can give out (50kw chargers usually can give out some 125A, so to reach 50kw charging the battery pack should be at least 400V, if it is 360V (i3) or 350V (id4 with small and big battery, it will charge slower. If it's id4 with mid battery pack 394.2V (nominal), it will reach 49.2kw charging. But the battery pack voltages is not so easy to find
@kompost13 жыл бұрын
Agreed that comparing the charging curve @50kW is important. The shortcoming of battery & inverter architecture, losses aso impacts more than one is to expect. As an Audi55 owner, we get close to 50kW upto 95%. Butt, you stay the fsck away from 50kW chargers unless you're shopping/eating or traveling in HPC nomans land aka Nord-Norge/artic circle. It's not just because of time; if your car can take 150+kW, many HPC networks payment model incentives you to get it over with quickly, so you can be on your merry way, and the queing Taken can charge at 58kW 🤪
