can you imagine how different history would have been if J. Peña had thought Amanda 4 years ago like she was supposed to? they allowed Ronda to cut in line ( even though Ronday Rousey had just been K.O. by Holly Holm). Can you imagine if Peña had thought Amanda then for the title and won it? The GOAT conversation in women's MMA might have been something completely different.

Charles won ten fights in just over 3 years which is another UFC record for the longest win streak in the shortest amount of time, khabib took just under 9 years to win 13 fights and Islam took over 5 years to win 9 fights. @@mrknucklepuck8485 defenses? What are you talking about? This was his first time defending the belt. He’s been champ for less than a year, you have no clue what you’re talking about. And odds also take into account who the fan favorite is, not necessarily who the more skilled fighter is. If you’re gonna put money on a fight you should look at both records of each fighter and get a sense of what you’re doing, not just pick one because he beat Conor. The night before the Oliveira-Poirier fight, I asked a buddy of mine "How much did Poirier got better in grappling since Khabib choked him out". Poirier fought a close fight with Dan Hooker and 3 rounds in total with McGregor. All three fights were practically striking. Poirier has not fought a top-of-the-food-chain grappler since Khabib and it really showed against Oliveira. It wasn't a surprise that he lost the way he did and conversely, people can stop saying that Oliveira is a quitter.

UFC fans: ok look, if he beats Gaethje and then gets a rematch with DP and beat him, and then do the rematch with Gaethje before he fights Markachev, and if he beats Markachev then only then if Khabib decides to comeback to UFC and fight Olivera and Olivera beats him then maybe he could be considered a decent fighter.

How anyone can be shocked when a guy with 6 losses loses in a sport as chaotic and complex as MMA is beyond me. That's what makes fights with undefeated guys so big, the idea that they actually might not be beatable. Ali Frazier 1, Ali Foreman, Wilder Fury, Mayweather vs. anyone, Khabib vs. anyone. They guys that can best get away with having lost and still have a mystique are the KO guys like Tyson and MacGregor.

He won't return under either of those conditions. He's not going to fight Islam's battles for him and I don't think he cares about those speculations. I guess maybe if Charles just wipes out everybody but even then I doubt it, he's got his own businesses to take care of now, has his own fighting promotion etc. Khabib vs Charles would be insane though. That's the most interesting fight at lightweight imo. Charles vs Islam will be sick too though I want to see that more than any other match up.

Man with one hand, I completely agree. I love Oliveira and root for him. But during that fight with Dustin, I told my wife, Charles needs to work big time on head movement. He's got to, or else he's going to pay the ultimate price eventually. That said, he's the best in the division right now.
@cameronforbes2649
@cameronforbes2649 2 жыл бұрын
Head movement is part of the equation, but part of it is due to his style. Oliveira's kick heavy games doesn't lend itself to head movement, but it works well and is what won him the fight (Kicks and Knees to the body). His head movement is most concerning to me against Gaethje. Though he already put Chandler and Poirier away, and all three of them rely on a brawl and sprawl type of strategy, which stylistically is just a hard matchup for Oliveira.

For some reason in this sport people can't understand a fighter hitting his stride. We've seen it with Justin Gaethje, Jorge Masvidal and now Charles. All of them had some things to work out and came to a turning point and got better. This version of Charles Oliveira is extremely dangerous. If he wins his next two there will be serious comparisons to Khabib and maybe that might inspire Khabib to go for 30-0 which was his and his father's original goal. If he beats Justin Gaethje and Islam he will have beaten everyone Khabib did some faster and in Islam a fighter Khabib's team is claiming is better than Khabib, and Charles beat Tony Ferguson.
