Sorry. This maybe a silly question, but do I need to be able to sit like that from the beginning or can I just do this with crossed legs? I haven’t done yoga in 20 years and I’m recovering from surgery. Hoping to start this today but definitely can’t sit like that at the moment. Thanks so much.

I wish Charlie had begun by saying (as she has done in her other beginner videos and shorts) that you can begin in a more comfortable seated position, and that your first attempts at poses won't look like hers! As she has said elsewhere, it's more about doing what you're comfortable doing and not pushing a position too hard to try for 'perfection'. Tl;Dr: You're not to look like she does. That took her years to achieve.

I am not a beginner. I have been doing yoga for 15 years but I am in year 3 of a daily yoga practice and it has transformed my life both physically and mentally. Your channel is a huge reason why I have a daily yoga practice still going strong and constantly challenging me in ways words can not describe. To begining yogis, the hardest part is showing up. Rolling out the mat and pressing play. If you make it that far, today was victorious! Don't be hard on yourself through this journey. Every day is a learning experience. Remember, we dont "do" yoga. We practice yoga. Good luck to everyone on their journey. I'll be right alongside you. ❤ 🧘‍♀️

@@aladysimaginationI know you didn’t ask me, but I love Charlie’s classes. I have used her KZbin classes since discovering her in May 24, and bought her programs so I could target specific areas as well. I loved her splits program, I highly recommend them (both side and front). This year I think I’ll focus on upper body. I’m 50 and love the strength training aspect of her programs (my hip pain is gone after doing her splits programs). I’ll always do her KZbin classes for my daily practice though. She’s very inspiring, even to us older ladies. I wish you the best in your journey this year!

I’m not a beginner, but recently being diagnosed with cancer and a heart defect, my body started to slowly stop working the way it used to. I am now starting over at beginner yoga to help my body just be and help it to naturally begin healing and you have been a large part of my journey to getting my body healthy again. So I am starting day one and I plan to go all the way to day 30 with you each morning.

Dear Newbies: If youre feeling overwhelmed, please remember we all were new once - the important thing is having the courage and commitment to show up, not to master every move. You have made an investment in YOU and that is awesome!! I wish you so much success! I'm not new to yoga, but definitely needed a refresher - amazing how our positioning begins getting haphazard if we don't think about it consciously! Learned two new things today- the flipping the palms over in child's position to release my sore wrists AND engaging glutes and abs in Chaturunga - such small changes with huge payoffs! Thank you Charlie!

I’ve been practising yoga for a good long while now. Even in a beginner’s class, we can learn something new as I did today. The cue to rotate legs to imagine knees facing each other in Sphinx was a new one for me. I added this at the end of my weight lifting routine today as that is the time that I rarely went to do a power yoga! This was perfect. Thank you.

I appreciate your uploading the first video ahead of time so that I can practice yoga on the first day in 2025 here in South Korea! South Korea is greiving from the airplane disaster a few days earlier. But I firmly believe we need to stick to our daily routine even in this period of sadness. We are resilient people. This was like a warm welcome back, thank you so much! I remember doing last year's 30 days challenge in january after doing yoga on-off for a year and I loved it so much that I (re-)started practicing almost on a daily basis and learning to be comfortable with things not working out perfectly immediatly and having fun with it. I am a person who struggles with consistency: I have my phases where I exercise every day and then a couple months later I just stop completely and start feeling guilty about it. This practice was the first in months, months where I was travelling a lot, starting a new job, writing my master's thesis. Today's practice was such a beautiful moment of just being with my body, acknowledging that it isn't as strong as it used to be but still appreciating all it can do and how great it can feel to inhabit it. I want to be kinder to myself this year and I have a feeling this 30 day challenge will be a step towards that. Looking forward to it!

Thank you for your guidance. At 50+ years young, I spent a large portion of 2024 trying to figure out yoga and frequently wanted to give up but I stuck with Charlie. What I found out is what they all say, it's very humbling in that what looks easy can be very challenging, it's a personal journey listening to your body and mind and it all starts with the breath. Breath is the place where our attention, thoughts and reactions sit..... it sounds really easy but the journey into the breath is very personal and can bring it's own challenges which are less physical but really supporting and uplifting. Looking forward to 2025 with Charlie. 🎉

I have been practicing yoga for about 1.5 years now consistently. I have made many significant changes in my life over the last year and a half but yoga has remained a constant. Charlie is my favorite yoga instructor to follow on KZbin and I was so excited when she posted about this 30 day challenge. I still consider myself a beginner as I still have so much to learn, and the one thing that always lacked in my journey was a back-to-basics challenge. Everything I’ve learned has been through trial and error and I’m thrilled to finally have a guide through the foundational poses and breathing techniques that will help to progressively add on more as the challenge moves forward. To those who are just beginning - just show up. That is the hardest part but when you show up consistently, you will look back and be grateful you did. I know I am. Thanks for being a constant in my life Charlie! I’m not sure where I would be without you. ♥️

I used to do a lot of yoga during covid, I hurt my ankle pretty badly though in November of 2024. After committing to my health and working out consistently in 2024, it was hard for me to force my body to rest. I have slowly been getting back to it, emphasizing my connection with my body first and foremost and building my strength overtime rather than lifting heavy like I love to. It’s been hard but meditation has really helped me. Since the new year I have meditated everyday. I am incredibly proud of myself. I am not Buddhist but I feel really connected to my chakras and yoga used to help me strengthen my connection and intuition with my chakras. I decided to get back into it, and I found your video. I am so excited. This session has helped me let go of a lot of tension I didn’t realize I was carrying just within my muscles and my body. My ankle is still a little tender to hold downward dog for long, and my balance is not what it used to. I couldn’t extend my leg and arm at same time. But it’s okay. Life is a journey, a lesson, and I am excited to discover and build my balance in the most harmonious way for my body. Thank you so much, I am deeply grateful for other beautiful humans like you who have a passion for themselves and share it to cultivate it within others around the world. I started a bit late but this really calmed me down before bed. It also made me realize that I have kind of been doing a little yoga for a bit longer than I thought. I have taken a few semesters of Pilates classes at one of the local colleges and we started every single class with various exercises from this video. I am excited for what is in store as I follow along. Thank you for your videos. I am grateful that I found your channel

Hello Charlie, I started following you in June 2024 and have been using your routine as my cooldown after my weights workout and some 30-40 minutes of full body yoga during rest days. I consider myself always a beginner and today January 3,2025 is my first day doing your challenge. I do appreciate everything you do for us your followers. Thank you.

Great way to start the morning. Even as a seasoned yoga practitioner, I like going back to basics. Tip I learned from this session: turning thighs outwards, knees inward facing each other during Sphinx helps diminish lower back pinch. Thank you 🙏

Big time beginner here, I had to move the yoga mat onto a carpet to try and save my poor knees 😂 I can't remember the last time I was ever on them, but the added cushioning is helping a lot

Not a beginner but reconnecting to a lost practice during a decade of children, illness and loss. I had been in recovery from a back injury for the past year and was walking along with band and weight training. This was the missing piece. I have followed you for awhile, appreciating your gentle approach towards teaching and yourself. Heading into a challenging week and I'm grateful to have this practice to ground me. Thank you!

My only one suggestion, a very minor one, is having a bit of ambient background sound. I love that you don't use music or 'fake' recordings over the top of your videos, one of the main things that drew me to you, but on a couple of your previous videos a bit of birdsong or water sounds crept in from your environment and it made it even more grounding, as it felt like I was there with you ✨ Thank you so juch for doing this series 🙏🏼

@santievandermerwe Very true, that raises a good point. I suppose it depends if you have some nice ambient sounds in your environment. Mine was very quiet in comparison!

Was looking forward to this first lesson for weeks now! I just wanted to say I am semi- new to yoga. Tried it a couple years ago and didn’t like it only because “I wasn’t good at it” and my friends and family were “better”. After maturing a little more I decided to pick up on yoga again, by myself, for myself. After I stumbled across your channel I absolutely fell in love. I’ve been doing it almost every single day since November and I’m already feeling stronger, more flexible , and most importantly proud. If you are a beginner, have some faith that results will come. I’m not where I wanna be, but I’m seeing progress. Thank you Charlie so much for your practices. Looking forward to this year with you!

I completed day 1 on day 1 of 2025. Thank you Charlie Follows. I’m not a beginner but I always approach training with a beginners mind. My wife and I have been following Charlie’s classes for about a year. The practice today motivated me to write about my vivastra yoga journey. The physical freedom, the mental liberation and the spiritual connection to movement, the breath and nature. These classes are perfect on many levels. My utmost gratitude ❤.

I began this video thinking "I know all this this will be too easy" and while yes I'd done all the poses many tines before I found something new in each one (especially leg rotation in sphinx, that blew my mind). I will definitely be continuing this rather than moving onto improves for now, even just as a refresher! Really valuable, thank you! 🙏

I too have been practicing yoga for many years for physical fitness (not spiritual discovery). I’m 73 and can no longer participate in hour long vigorous yoga classes. These 20 minutes sessions of gentle movements are extremely valuable to maintain my flexibility and my mental clarity. Thank you Charlene for focusing on fitness rather than mysticism. And that ocean breath is so good to clear up congestion in throat and windpipe!

Not a beginner, but I keep coming back to practicing yoga to help my body age gracefully (65) and to help with anxiety. The focus on breathing is so key to re-alignment. Your classes are challenging, but I love the way there are options - and it's such a lovely surprise when I can actually take advantage of a slightly more difficult option. (There may have actually been cheering on occasion . . . .) Best wishes to other students and thank you, Charlie.

Thank you for this class! I have been doing yoga on and off for years, and last year's 30 day challenge was supposed to be my push to start doing yoga more consistently and consciously. I loved the challenge but did not get to finish it because I fell ill. I have lost a lot of strength over the past year, which has been quite frustrating, when classes that used to be my rest day classes now feel almost like power yoga. I hope this challenge will be a beautiful reset, to get to know what I am capable of now and build back some strength and stamina. Not lamenting what I have lost, but celebrating what I am doing for myself and my body now.

Dear Charlie, I've been practicing yoga on and off for the last 10 years or so, but today was the first time that someone explained how to tilt my pelvis in seated forward fold. It felt incredible. I'm not a beginner, been practicing yoga for 13 years, off & on. Lost a lot strength during the pandemic because I couldn't go to class and was lazy. Finally found some instructors I vibed with (Charlie being one of them) and the motivation to practice from home. Been focusing on a short daily practice for the last half year or so. I'm really grateful for the chance to rediscover movement & rebuild strength. If you're new, just remember that every journey is unique and we all progress at our own paces.
